Alex Hales opted to skip Bangladesh tour, to play in PSL. Hales opted out of last Bangladesh tour as well, in 2016, on security related fear.

England captain Jos Buttler lashes out at crowded schedule
Quote:
The team, currently playing an ODI series in South Africa, will travel to New Zealand to play a 2-match Test series and then have a white-ball tour set up against Bangladesh.

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler has lamented the fact that the New Zealand Test tour finishes on 28 February and the white-ball team plays their first ODI on March 1 in Bangladesh.

"I feel for the players to be honest. There are certain players who have the ability to play all three formats but that is kind of impossible because of the schedules. That is a frustration I would have if I was a young player growing up now, that you don’t want to feel pigeon-holed as a player because the schedule doesn’t allow you to play everything," Buttler was quoted as saying by The Evening Standard.

Fringe players in the England ODI set up Ben Duckett and youngster Harry Brook were not able to succeed in the first ODI match against South Africa. However, the captain felt that it was important to give the players chances here because it would not be possible to fit them in the Bangladesh series, which will give the England side a good practice in the white-ball conditions ahead of the World Cup.

"It’s going to be pretty impossible for those guys to be involved in Bangladesh, so it’s really important we expose them here and give them opportunity. We’ve got to use these games here and in Bangladesh to experiment a bit, expose people to playing international cricket. That’s just something we have to manage the whole way through. If we play well, I think we should win games of cricket," Buttler said.
Sounds like Buttler is planning to bring full strength LOI teams to Bangladesh.

T20 franchise commitments leave England short-stocked for ODI tour of Bangladesh
Quote:
On Monday The Telegraph reported that Alex Hales, who returned to the national team for 2022's T20 World Cup, has opted to forgo the tour having committed to a more lucrative deal with Pakistan Super League franchise Islamabad United starting from February 26. It has since been understood that Sam Billings, Liam Dawson and James Vince, three players who have been in and around both white-ball teams for several years, are also expected to follow suit. ESPNcricinfo also understands that Richard Gleeson and Tymal Mills are considering their availability for the T20I leg of the tour.

The first ODI against Bangladesh is on March 1, meaning those players who are part of the Test tour of New Zealand will not be available, with the second Test due to finish on February 28 in Wellington. That rules out Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Olly Stone (all currently involved in the ODIs in South Africa) and Joe Root. Will Jacks, yet to be capped in the 50-over format but seen as an opening option going forward, is also on the Test tour.

Along with the absences of Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone through injury, it is likely some of those on the Lions tour of Sri Lanka will be drafted in. Fast bowler Mark Wood, currently resting after the Test tour of Pakistan, is due to return for Bangladesh.

Discussions with those who have opted out of the Bangladesh tour are understood to have been upfront and honest, even empathetic, with the decisions left to the players.

The final squad is likely to have a similar look to the one that toured Pakistan for seven-T20 matches last October, which featured five uncapped players.

Irish captain Andy Balbirnie also got opportunities to play couple of matches for Khulna at Sylhet (where the Ireland ODI series will take place).

Ireland to stage Bangladesh Super League ODIs in England
Quote:
Cricket Ireland have been in talks with the ECB over recent months about playing the series at a county venue in the second week of May. ESPNcricinfo understands that Chelmsford is the most likely host.

There is no guarantee that the rain will stay away in England. But Cricket Ireland believe there is a greater chance of three full matches being played to a result in England than in Dublin or Belfast.

The series also presents a rare opportunity for the large Bangladeshi diaspora in England to watch their team live. Bangladesh were well supported at venues throughout the 2019 World Cup.

Both Ireland (Josh Little) and Bangladesh (Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das and Mustafizur Rahman) have players involved in the IPL, but all four are expected to play in the Super League series in May.

Josh Little actually has backing of both Ireland Cricket and captain Andy Balbirnie to skip SL and BD T20Is to play in PSL and IPL. They realized Little will grow better playing in those leagues than playing against BD or SL. It's BCB's shortsightedness that they're depriving our players (especially LKD, who has no exposure to IPL yet) from playing in IPL, and not using the opportunity to try three new players in a home series against Ireland.

Ireland announced their squads -

ODIs and T20Is: Andy Balbirnie (capt), Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Graham Hume, Matthew Humphreys, Barry McCarthy, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Ben White, Stephen Doheny (ODIs only), Josh Little (ODIs only), Andrew McBrine (ODIs only), Ross Adair (T20Is only), Conor Olphert (T20Is only), Craig Young (T20Is only)

One-off Test: Andy Balbirnie (Capt), Curtis Campher, Murray Commins, George Dockrell, Graham Hume, Matthew Humphreys, Andrew McBrine, Barry McCarthy, James McCollum, Peter Moor (wk), Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Ben White, Mark Adair.

Ex-Zimbabwean international Peter Moor will be included in the Irish Test squad for the first time in this tour.

Riyad and Taijul have been axed from the ODI team, for Ireland series.

BD ODI Team:
Tamim Iqbal (capt), Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Zakir Hasan

IN: Yasir Ali, Nasum Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Zakir Hasan

OUT: Shamim Hossain, Taijul Islam, Mahmudullah

IMO, Riyad is simply facing age discrimination, despite having been performing so much better than younger guys like Yasir or Afif.

On the other hand, Taijul exclusion makes sense. Taijul is so much dependent on finding turn from the pitch that it's unlikely he will be effective in an ICC event. It will be better to groom Nasum, who has better skill set for flat pitches.

If we look at past patterns, Afif and Yasir probably will pad up their stats against Ireland and Afghanistan. But past patterns also tell us those two are very likely to fail in Asia Cup and World Cup.

I am not against grooming younger players, but it should have happened after the WC.

I really dont under the inclusion of Yasir
-He doesnt look like an international player with his physique
-He yoyos in the batting line up
-He is a clumsy fielder

Afif is following a similar trend of Momimnul of showing some great initial starts to the career only to fall back making stupid nonsense errors in batting

Yasir inclusion is experimental. We have to find replacements for Big 4 now and in Liton, Shanto, and Miraz we have found some. But Liton is only good in Tests, Shanto is on the right track but still to early to call him a lynchpin, and Miraz is still not a top 6 batter yet.

Time to see if Zakir, Towhid, Yasir have the goods. Would also like to see Mosaddek and Nurul in the mix.

I don't disagree with some experimenting in the team in a home series against Ireland. But, if we're going to undermine Ireland, why axe Riyad only? Would it not be better to let Shakib go play PSL/IPL, and see if the rest of the team can save their buttocks without Shakib bailing them out?

Yasir is better fit as replacement for #4 (Mushfiq) or #5 (currently Shakib), not really someone who can come to the crease and start attacking, ie not fit as Riyad's replacement at #6 or 7.

BTW, all those complains about Yasir's fitness or fielding ability is garbage. Anyone that saw him in action should know what an excellent fielder he is. Please learn to show some respect to the players, instead of keep flaunting your ignorance and rudeness.

Rumor is that Shakib maybe inline for KKR captaincy, since Shreyas Iyer picked up an injury. If that happens, BCB may let him skip Ireland tour in May. Nitish Rana and Tim Southee are other two contenders for KKR captaincy.

In the other news, Ireland have added Fionn Hand to their squads for all three formats of the Bangladesh tour. Conor Olphert has withdrawn from the T20I squad due to study commitments, while Josh Little is rested ahead of the IPL after a picking up a minor hamstring injury at the SA20 and will now miss the ODIs.

Surprised to see this news. Usually he warms the bench quite a lot playing for KKR

Also, speaking of IPL, Liton decided to drop his form at the worst time lol. Finally gets his chance in IPL, form was exchanged with Shanto haha.

this would be really cool. And shakib is in great form. Out of the above mentioned, he doesn't seem to be fitting. and if he becomes the captain, he is definitely underpaid this season. A value buy i would say.

Too bad Liton aint getting any chance on this team.

Btw eshen, thanks for this useful thread. I was able to keep track of the dates of BD play.
