Rafiq is the KEY!!!
i dont think there is any conventional ways we can beat england in ODI. so why don't we try something different and use rafiq as our opening batsman. rafiq has good eye hand coordination; if he manages to stay in the crease for the first five-ten overs, BD would def. be off to a good start. he won't get lucky everytime, but i think its worth taking the risk; besides he doesn't contribute that much as a lower order batsman in ODI anyways.
what do u guys think?

yea rafique opening is not always a good idea. sometimes it is. rajin and nafees will do fine. if not then shariar nafees can replace one of them.

well, its just that he doesn't contribute anything as a lower oder in ODI.. we might as well get him out at the beginning.. but then again we don't wanna lose an early wicket

What do ya mean ? If it's low score like 156 or something we can try still risky though ........ Better not to try caz , it won't be ever 156 to chase against the world champs ...... But i don't see any problem with Rajin and Nafis IQbal what's wrong with them mate ..... they are perfectly well .

i believe we have found our best opening batsmen after a long long experiment. rajin and nafees are doing great as opening partners. better not break it unless one of them gets injured.

I agree with howzatt. We should not try or play gamble this time. It will be fine and I am hopeful for a positive result.

exactly. i dont understand why people want to experiment agian. because rajin and nafees has been doing pretty well in the last few matches. yes we can always do experiments especially in ODI. but that should not ofcourse be done against england. we can do that with zimbabwe. but ofcourse not with england. we should play our regular batting order against big teams. u will hardly see big teams experimenting with big teams. big teams only experiments with minnows.

It`s a good idea to take a gamble like that but NOT in English condition. Rafiq didnt come handy as an opener most of the time he was tried. Only a few times he made an impact on flat batting track.
So, the answer is NO. Definately not the key, but he will hold England`s runrate I believe.

why dont we get talha and taposh to open the batting?
Its just a joke. As most of the people have sed, rajin and Nafis should open. Rafique should be used just like south africa uses Boje. On another serious note, why not try rafiq as an opening bowler? that might be a good tactic to try.

i just hope one of our opening batsman go nuts in the first 10-15 overs and take advantage of the fielding restriction to put england in a defensive side...

this is going to be a really really tough task to do. after all batting in this time of the year in england is hard for any batsman. and i actually dont think there is any reason why our batsman should play in the attacking mood. this might turn out to be a big disaster. its better to go in a slow and steady mood.

I feel nafis Iqbal is a little ot of form, especially in ODI's he gets off to a very slow start. If there is neone who shud be replaced for shahriar then it shud be Nafis Iqbal. Using Rafiq is not a bad idea only if Rajin is injured like he was in the last match against Zimbabwe. I feel in the test however shahriar shud get a chance in place of Javed Omar.

obernell is not completely wrong... Rafiq is a good gamble in the opening position. Then again.. it is also right that we currently have our most stable ODI opening pair in recent times with Nafees-Rajin, taking that they will continue to be as successfull in England as their very recent-past matches. IMO, the thing about playing a gamble with rafiq or not is solely about Match Planning & Strategy and not just about sending rafiq in opening and getting some cheap runs.
Did you guys mark that Dav Whatmore was the person who converted the Srilankan team into that Blasting ODI side?? It was Dav who almost invented the idea of utilizing the pinch hitting thing and managing to cross 300 runs every now and then... and ODI today is now walking that path following the Sri-Lankan style and many other sides have adopted to the idea quite well. But again, in case of Bangladesh, Dav has not instantly implied that style... for surely understandable reasons. And that is, no doubt, the brittleness of our batting line-up.
I'm sure after (and only after that) BD gets a more stable batting side, our next goal will be to increase our ODI scoring rate.. i.e. become a more attacking ODI side. In times like that.. we will sure try openers like Rafiq(if he still plays then)... or maybe blasting hitters like Aftab. So Rafiq may be used as openers in matches where we want to play attacking (just like the 5th ODI vs. Zimbabwe). In other cases... sound pairs like Nafees-Rajin are final choices.

Rafique could be our Afridi for ODI. If successfull, can completely confuse and demoralize the opponent bowlers and can reduce the burden from our middle order batsman.
However most likely it will not work for England Series or when its not batting pitch.
I wouldn't mind if we take this kind of risk once in a while. Our record shows we loose 9 out of 10 ODI anyway ( or something like that). So whats wrong with some experiment?
