Lightbulb Controversial Referee to officiate Brazil-France Match

THE Spanish referee whose controversial late penalty award sent Australia packing has retained his place on centre stage at the World Cup. Luis Medina Cantalejo, who awarded Italy a debatable but match-deciding spot-kick for a Lucas Neill challenge, will control the 1998 final replay between Brazil and France in Sunday's (AEST) quarter-final.

Get ready for another blunder, may be.

Really!! It is hard to believe, that Referee has a soft mind for the strong team. I don't know why FIFA is doing this! A clean referee is needed very much for that game.

Anyway, How about Germany Vs Argentina? Who will be the Referee?

In that case, Brazil will definitely get a penalty and France will be a 10 man team. But still I hope about a fair game....Fair PLay Plz

The guy's not that bad. I was actually happy with the way he controlled the game up until about the 70th minute. Maybe it was just post-traumatic confusion after watching the replay of Graham Poll try to referee the Croatia-Australia game.

Graham Poll the one who messed up Australia vs Croatia game went home already. Fifa said he wont officate any more games in quaters semi nd definitely not final.

Saying that I dont think FIFA at all holds him responsible or care for that blunder for that blunder in Aus vs Italy match.

Looks like brazil is the only team got little favour from the refs. how about adriano got yellow card for diving when it was a clear foul by the goalkeeper. how about argentina Vs mexico. defender of argentina deserved red card but got yellow. all the commentators were shocked by the referees decision. and how about crespo's goal. some might say it was a foul. or Italy's penalty in last minuit against australia

guyz u r too hard on refs. refs have to make split second decision and from a distance, so they are prone to make errors. besides if they make a mistake 1 in 10 cases, people just talk about that case. anyway, now they get wireless communication with linesmen, so i think they will be performing better .

No one is trying to defend refs... U didn't get my underline message.. They r human and bound to favor some body... U win some U lose some...
Why so much crying? If u r good enough u will win most of the time..Don't u think ref gave bad calls against Brazil? they still comeback with out having to use wining/gods hand/etc etc...

that spanish referee made an error and now everyone is talking about him. its not everyday he makes mistakes. we just want a fair game. and the player's acting are increasing. a simplest touch and the players are lying on the field. fifa should do something about diving

refs should not favor anybody not even their own country. brazilians do whine, one of the best example was ronaldo not being fit in that 98 final.

hand of god was not an excuse. in 1986 maradona scored a goal against england, replays showed a hand was used. when a journalist asked him after the match, ofcourse he could not accept it but he did not lie either, he just joked "it is hand of god".

oh, what a great thing that he did, and we are all proud of it, what a great moment for football history, scoring goals with hands and being proud of it

i never mind that he scored with his hand and it created history. and i don't think we should not drag that topic. he was a great footballer and one goal doesn't change anything

I hope FIFA will not bring back Elgardo Codesal for Germany - Argentina match:-) I don't understand why sport authorities most of times stick to their original selections. "Stay the course" philosophy or what? Do they like to show they do not make any mistake?

Seeing all the matches, it is crystal clear that Referee always supports heavy weighted team. Now it is time to see what happen in Germany-Argentina and France-Brazil match, cause they are all big names. If one team will go to home for the bad referring, it will be a huge blow (bad impression) for the tournament.

I rekon, the referee has a soft corner for european sides. That is bad news for Brazil. May be france's underhand (ugly head) dealing will surf up again. 12th man in disguise. They should get a Bd referee (I recommend Babu bhai).
