Bangladesh has played against India 8 times in the One Day Internationals. 5 times they played against each other in the Asia Cup tournaments and the other 3 times they played in a Coca Cola Triangular Series held in India and the other time in Independnece Cup of Bangladesh.

This year when Bangladesh will be playing India in the Tri Nations TVS cup, it will be the 9th time that they would be playing each other in a One Day International match. It is going to be the 4th time that India will be coming to Bangladesh to play against Bangladesh.

The highest total made by India is 252 runs while chasing Bangladesh's highest total against India (249 runs in 50 overs) during the Asia Cup 2000 held in Bangladesh. Although Bangladesh's lowest total against India is 99 or 98, but as that was a match where Bangladesh was not bowled out in the allocated overs, so according to Cricinfo, Bangladesh's lowest total against India is 115 during 1997-98 season in Mumbai.

Two Indian batsman have scored centuries against Bangladesh and they are Saurav Ganguly and Novojat Sing Sidhu. The highest total made by any Bangladeshi against India is Aminul Islam (70). Aminul Islam also played in all the matches (total of 8 matches) played by Bangladesh against India.

The highest partnership for Bangladesh against India is the 5th wicket partnership of 109 runs between Aminul Islam and the present captain of Bangladesh Khaled Mahmud. The second highest partnership of 108 runs (3rd wicket partnership) had involved former Bangladeshi players Atahar Ali Khan and Faruk Ahmed. It must be notable that the highest opening partnership for Bangladesha against India is only 30 runs and the second wicket (as well as 6th wicket) partnership is 31 runs. The highest 4th wicket partnership is of 42 runs between Aminul Islam and Minhazul Abedin. 9th wicket partnership of Bangladesh against India consists of 44 runs between Khaled Mashud and Hasibul Hussain and the highest 10th wicket partnership is of 25 runs between Saiful Islam and Anisur Rahman.

Bangladesh will miss Aminul Islam when they will play India this time as Aminul Islam has a profound impact on Bangladesh scorecards while playing against India. Aminul Islam has a batting average of over 46 against India. He is also the highest scoring batsman (277 runs in 8 matches) whenever these two teams have played against each other. If Saurav Ganguly plays for India this time, may be Ganguly can get past Aminul Islam, but before the start of this tournament, Aminul Islam is the highest scorer of the two teams. Atahar Ali Khan and Akram Khan are the second and third highest scorer for Bangladesh against India, but none of their batting average is nearly as good as Aminul Islam's.

Among the players who are in the current squad of Bangladesh, Akram Khan and Khaled Mashud are the most experienced players (6 ODIs) against India, the second most experienced player is Mohammad Rafique (5 matches), Khaled Mahmud and Javed Omar are the third most experienced players (3 matches), Sanwar Hossain is the second least experienced player against India (2 matches) and Habibul Bashar, Mehrab Hossain and Monjurul Islam are the least experienced player against India (only 1 ODI played against India).

Among them, Mohammad Rafique, Khaled Mashud, Javed Omar, Sanwar Hossain, Mehrab Hossain and Khaled Mahmud are the players who have played their
debut matches against India.

I think that we are trying to depend on Javed Omar and Mehrab Hossain for stability in the top order in this tournament. But their past performance against India suggests that we should not depend on them too much as they have not been able to score many runs against Indian pace attack (Javed Omar 23 runs in 3 ODIs, and Mehrab Hossain (6 runs in 1 ODI).

Bangladesh have also played their debut test match against India, in which match, the following players of the current squad were involved - Mehrab Hossain, Habibul Bashar, Akram Khan, Khaled Mashud, Mohammad Rafique. In that test match, as well as in the last One Day International match played between these two teams, Habibul Bashar and Akram Khan made the most significant contribution. Khaled Mashud had played a very significant role in the test match against India.

The following players will be playing their first match against India if they are chosen in the first eleven - Mohammad Ashraful, Alok Kapali, Tushar Imran, Tapash Baisya, Tareq Aziz, Talha Jubair or Mashrafee Bin Murtoza, Mohammad Selim. It will be interesting to see whether we will see a repeat act by Habibul Bashar and Akram Khan or whether the new players like Ashraful and Alok Kapali shine for Bangladesh.
