An opening batsman and good inside-the-ring fielder who's international
career was initially aided by injuries to Shahriar and Mehrab
Hussein but should now be persuading the selectors to consider
him on a more regular, automatic basis.
Although he opened for a couple of seasons with the cavalier
Indian batsman Raman Lamba, Javed's batting is based more on solid
defence and patience, attributes which often appear to be missing
from the game of his more attacking colleagues.
After grinding out a few thirties against England and West Indies
'A' in 1998 and two first-class half centuries against England
'A' and the West Indies in 1999, he demonstrated his ability to
play a few shots against England in the 2000 ICC knockout tournament.
Was probably unlucky to miss out on being selected for Bangladesh's
first Test but has responded well with a fine, debut domestic
first-class season.
