View Full Version : BCCI reveal shortlist of coaches

May 8, 2005, 09:19 AM

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has shortlisted four candidates it wants to interview for the post of coach of the national team.

Two Indians, Mohinder Amarnath and Sandeep Patil, plus Australians Tom Moody and Greg Chappell are named. The coach is too be named on June 15.

But the BCCI is also keen to contact two or three other former international players, all from abroad, before making any final decision on the role.

So Dav Whatmore might still be able to get the job, but its not likely.

I really wished they could get this over with. They are dragging it on for so long. Now we wait til middle of June.

U r right FRB,,,Indian Cricket board beshi dhong korche. They should just select a coach , why do we need to know their shortlisted 4 coaches anyways? Its stupid!

they r trying to show that they are very selective. and they are trying to prove that it is a very respectable job. they are showing like they are not choosing a coach but choosing a pope for the vatican. all rubbish. it just shows how stupid they are.

This is a big issue in India ........much more important that the selection of the pope faltubhai ......hence the drama .....
I think moody should be first choice

2)patil /chappell
3)amarnath.....not good.

there is reason to believe that Amarnath could India to another level - one step lower.

I think we also have a reason to agree with this statement (hint: ICC trophy 1994).

To be honest, I'm surprised that they named Amarnath into the coaching matter.

Misguided nationalism (http://content.cricinfo.com/india/content/story/209207.html)

Yeah, I was surprised, too. He's not suited for the job by any means.

He is there to just make up the numbers ......like you need minimum tenders .....

One cannot judge the calibre of a coach by the results he obtained with Bangladesh. Going by that yardstick, every coach of BD, including whatmore is a misfit.

Greg Chappell is the new Indian coach. It is a good decision because the prima donnas of Indian cricketers will now have to contend with a coach who was a cricketing legend himself.

Greg Chappell replaces Wright as the new Indian coach (http://www.cricketnext.com/news1/next/Rep2005/rep053.htm)

I read an article in Sydney morning herald that senior players preferred Tom Moody while Greg Chappell was Ganguly's favourite. The problem with Greg Chappell is that he himself is a high profile and colorful person. In indian team the coach needs to keep a low profile and have a good man-management technique to cater to the big egoes of the superstar cricketers in the team. It will be interesting to see if Chappell can stay away from the limelight and just go about his business. That has always been the key to being a successful Indian coach. He will have to contend with the sometimes erratic selection and meddling of the cricket board. On top of that after the success of John Wright, Chappell will be under the microscope all the time.
