17.5 Flintoff to Aftab Ahmed, FOUR, four more! pitched up on the pads,
Ahmed had to hurry, ball clips the inside edge end races away to
the backward square leg boundary
17.4 Flintoff to Aftab Ahmed, FOUR, another short ball, this time
angling across the right-hander, once again the edge is found,
this time the ball flies over the slips
17.3 Flintoff to Aftab Ahmed, FOUR, short ball, Ahmed goes the pull,
ball clips the edge and flies down to the fine leg fence

BD selectors should consider seriously replacing Bashar. He is the most experienced and top order batsman and yet he has playing like a slogger in a 5th day Test Match. What's going on his mind? How come he be so naive after all these years of experience? If the Skipper falters like this, who do you think our kids (players) are going to look up for?

You're expecting a 50 from Aftab? Bad publicity for him. It has been happening like this throughout this match - one talk of 0promise and good fielding by tv commentators - misfielding occurs, one talk of good batting - all sort of bad shots are being played by the very same batsman.

So, I'm expecting our last recognized batting pair (Mashud & Aftab) to get out as soon as they come to bat tomorrow, and since I'll be going to class after 1 & half hours, so I'm expecting the Bangladesh innings to be finished well before that.

All this time, it was our lower order that served us from horrible batting display of top orders and its our pair of Mashud and another batsman (possibly a tail ender - can't think to call Rafique or Mashrafee a lower order batsman anymore) who generally saves us from humiliation.

But considering the poor team spirit that our team is in, it'll be impossible for us to even hope Aftab-Mashud pair to continue tomorrow like they did today. (In fact, it was a blessing for us that they did survive till the end of the day today to not to be beaten inside 2 days).

And also, considering our tail end batsman's technique against bounce and quick bowling, Rafique, Mashrafee - they're not gonna survive too long out in the middle. And let us forget about the 2 Hossains - Shahadat & Anwar - they are not even experienced enough to hold to their bat and play some decent knocks against Flintoff & other tall fast bowlers.

At a time like this, I'm really missing Hannan Sarkar. Even if he's in his worst form, his good technique against bouncy balls had always helped us to be saved from further humiliation in all those years.

But Players make stupid mistakes again and again in the field.. not Dav. There so much a coach can do.

You really cannot expect drastic change of bad habiits from veterans like Bashar, Pilot, Gullu or Rafique. Even from Ash in some way. And these new players will pick up bad habits and lower expectation from the seniors.... thats a real problem new players in the national team.

BD selectors should consider seriously replacing Bashar. He is the most experienced and top order batsman and yet he has playing like a slogger in a 5th day Test Match. What's going on his mind? How come he be so naive after all these years of experience. If the Skipper falters like this, who do you think our kids (players) are going to look onto?
U r rite.Dave was in the Commentry box while Bashar played those pull shots.I dont remember what he said.I was watching the match live and hearing live Test match telecast from BBC.Its was just embracing. At the end of Day 2 Mark was talking to Arthton.Mark said no way Bd should plat test Cricket. They should play against the A teams. And its damn true. One thing I have to admit except Bashar all the dismissals in our 2nd knock were some stunning catches with fiery spells both both end.:E:E:E

I expect you to hold out for about 2 hours tomorrow.

Mashud and Aftab will give some resistance but then get out, and then the tailenders will have there stumps sent walking by Flintoff.

England win by inns & 300 runs. :)

Nice to see our batters get runs. Trescothick played brilliantly and Vaughan showed his class. Those two players now have 25 test hundreds between them (Tres 11, Vaughan 14) and have put on over 3000 runs in partnerships.

I am all smiles.

Dav runs the team like a football coach.

I am completely drained and emotionless. I have no hope. While I never expected our team to draw or even take the game to the fifth day I had the temerity to actually harbour some "funny feelings" in my stomach a few weeks ago. I did not think my position was totally unfounded - I had seen most of the team play before - but it has turned out to be wishful thinking in the end. I hope the players feel atleast a modicum of the pain and shame that we the fans do. If so, then perhaps all is not wasted. Alas, I am afraid to say, given our "tigers" penchant for repititive behaviour, that is unlikely.

Anyway, I too will not be around to watch the final nails being driven into our coffin. Thanks to England for letting us take the game to the third day - they had to sacrifice watching their favourite football teams play on Friday in order to accomodate us.

The commentator on Bangladeshlive was asking "Why did all other Bangladeshi batsmen not play as wisely as Mashud, instead of attempting big shots against second team in the world?"
Hopefully they will do that in the second test, preventing another innings defeat and giving significance to Bangladesh test-status.

Excuse me, we did lose the match (or didn't we?).

The showing of Mashud today humiliates the other experienced batsman in the team, nothing more.

And ofcourse, to us fans, it was a satisfactory performance from at least 2 players - who enjoyed sometime out in the middle themselves, as well as gave us some fun for the very brief period that they were in, today.

Dhakablues
May 28, 2005, 11:29 AM
Did you expect to win against England? Any of us who did,, we were just living in fool's paradise. So yes, you didnt lose an innings and 100 runs or maybe 10 wickets, we were going to lose and there was no doubt about that.

Khaled Mashud has proven again and again why he is the wall for Bangladesh cricket. Its not for the fans he does his job,, its for the fact of enjoying the game and taking it professionally. It doesnt humilate other players, it should inspire them. It also shows that we do have players in the team who can play Hoggard, Harmison easily. Cricket is a funny game,, West Indies is also losing by margins ( barring the current one) and its okay but only when Bangladesh loses it becomes such a competition of who wrote the most insulting commentary. And we fans, as emotional as we always are, just start calculating whom to drop and whom to include without giving a fair chance to the cricketers about the condition, competition and the admittance that, in fact we are not a top test nation. We need to start realizing that.

Here is an article from bbc site:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/4589637.stm

This is what I think is the most important part of it:
-------------------------------------------------
"It is for the tourists to make amends and show some fight.

It is one thing not to be technically good enough to make a fist of it at this level, but there are many things you can do to help yourself.

Gifting your wicket through impulsive rushes of blood is something that should be controllable.

Dav Whatmore - Bangladesh's long-suffering coach - has lost count of the times he has urged his young charges to show some responsibility.

Khaled Mashud, who top scored with 44 on Saturday, showed exactly the right approach.

Hopefully he will thoroughly have ashamed his reckless team-mates who were watching from the dressing room. He batted bravely and, importantly, within his limitations.

Even the number 10, Anwar Hossain Monir, tried his best as the pair put on 58 runs together. It just shows what can be done with just a little discipline."
-------------------------------------------------------------------
