1) Defeating Pakistan in WC - first win against a major team + defeating the mortal enemies of the past

2) Defeating India last year - second win against a major + 1st in home ground

3) Ashraful's 158 against India - our best ever

4) Yousuf Babu's 78 against MCC - inspired a whole generation

5) Hannan Sarkar in Australia - Australia who??

6) Rafique and Pilot's 100 against WI - we've got the game too.

7) Test win against Zimb - inevitable but the 1st win is sweet.

addition:

Winning ICC trophy - the celebration in the streets

for me the defining moment of Bangladesh Cricket was this towering 6 from pilot in the last over of the 1997 ICC trophy match against Kenya. i remember that 6 and i think anything is possible.

here's my .02.

1. I think Atahar ali khan's innings of 79 not out with three sixes against srilanka way back in 89 HAS to be the moment!!! it was the first time we were on the reckoning..

2. team effort: win again pakistan..that was aginst all odds... i would rate that higher than the India win in Dhaka.. as pakistan was full sterngth side and we were resting our key bowlers!!!!!!

3. personal moment:

1. Mashrafi getting rid of Dravid.. dhaka test
2. bulbul's debut century..that was no mean feat.. by any means..
3. both asharaful' century..

oh, Pilot and Nafi's century too.....

we basically saved those two test matches because of THOSE two innings..... as simple as that.

Best Moments of Bangladesh Cricket
For me:

2.Win against Pakistan in wc1999
3.Ashraful's 158*
4.Odi win against India

1. Win against Holland where Akram Khan played a brilliant innings to take Bangladesh into the semifinal of 1997 ICC trophy.

2. Beating Scotland in Scotland in world cup 1999 - everybody may have remembered our defeating Pakistan, but nobody can argue with the fact that if we could not beat Scotland, we also were not in a position to play as good as we did against Pakistan and ultimately beating them.

3. Aminul Islam 145 against India during inaugural test against India

4. Defeating Zimbabwe in the ODI in Zimbabwe - after 5 years' of draught

One of the most biggest regrets, yet very refreshing memory:

1. Not defeating Pakistan in Multan
2. Not defeating Pakistan in at least 1 of the 5 ODIs in Pakistan - immediately after the Multan test
3. Not defeating West INdies in at least 1 of the 3 ODIs in WI

It must be the first test win. Indelible. Cannot be erased ever. Before that, well my grey cells are betraying me day by day.

BD drought periods are longer than the good moments!

the greatest moment in our cricket history has to be when shanto took off for that single.

I agree. I watched it on Tape in 97 - I just knew bangladesh won but I ddn't know it went to the last ball. I remember that day - I watched it with all the bengalis in my neighborhood.. 3 including me.

Here is the evil truth though. If it wasn't for rain, we would have lost the game. Duckworth saved us.

yeah, for once, rain was in our favor.

the game before that, the rain almost cost us the match. if it werent for akram, we would have definitely lost that game. so, i think its fair that the rain helped us out the next game.

It's the truth. We still can't chase 220+ totals against similar quality teams, and back in 1997.....

our batsmen used to have centuries in both innings of first class matches against county players in those days... how are you so sure that rain helped us win ?

Otherwise BD would stumble to 180 all out or something like that.

Proof: Holland pushed us hard with a lot smaller total.

For me personally

1.first Test vs WI: Almost made Lara retire + 4 TONS by our Batsmen
2.Ash 158: took on India by himself (just imagine if he had any support)
3.Beating India in ODI
4.1st Test WIN
5.Last ODI vs ZIM by far our best performance(20 overs to spare)

Spitfire, sure u can be down-to-earth honest and realistic about it, but you cant depend on "would've" and "could've". Nobody can tell what was going to happen if it hadnt rained that day.

I wont pick an arguement with you about this. That win is glorified, and so shall it stay! :)
