OK, I'm judging this innings a qualified success - basically, because of Nafees showing he can play at this level.

The pitch was slower and turned more - a lot more - than I expected. It was a good toss for Ponting to win ...

Interestingly enough, one of the keys was how the Ash/Nafees partnership were content to just work the spinners around - after forcing Lee out of the attack, if they had attacked the spinners and hit them around, then Ponting doesnt have a lot of options.

Then there was some very good slow bowling (watch the delivery that got Bashar - it was very good), and once Ash's luck ran out with that Symonds catch, then there werent going to be enough runs on the board.

Ash is a young player - he understands what it means to attack, and he understands that he cant attack all the time. But he doesnt know when to turn it on again after turning it off.

But it was a very, very good innings by Nafees. I think the second opener has been found.

actually they just want to be like of Ashraful. Hit all the balls they faces. Look how they got out Pilot/Aftab/rafique/Morteza/ rana all tried to hit the balls rather then playing the spinners. And off course evrything started with OUR GREAT CAPTAIN Bashar

He scored only 34 runs from the last 70 balls he faced.

this match is going to be over by 15 over!!! there is no chance for the sppinners to come......... Then they have to open the bowling instead of Mashree and Nazmul. Shumon does not have the guts to bring his spinners before the fielding restriction ends!

This is pretty similar things going on for the last few matches: batsmen are facing the speedstars like the HeMan and afterthat giving away wickets to the slower bowlers! :(

I think BD batsman have tried so hard to adapt to the pace and bounce that english conditon provides that they are out of touch with the spin department. BD batsmen haven't faced decent spin for awhile after they have been in England!

For example, Aftab couldn't judge the turn of the ball accurately when he was trying to guide the ball to mid on. Bashar did the same and got an edge. Rana was rubbish. There was no need to run down the track with 15 overs to spare. Pilot/Rafiq/Mortoza were all trying to score runs by playing shots when they clearly didn't know how well the balls were pitched/spinning.

If Bangladesh wants to make any kind of impression through bowling it has to be the spinners.............

take 3/4 Australian wickets........that is the only thing BD can achieve.........if any bowler is bowling well........bowl him 10 overs continuosly.........

BioMEMS
June 25, 2005, 08:10 AM
Well the main reasons why spinners are not brought in early is because the ball is still very new and would not turn much. The fielding restriction would also make the spinners quite redundant even if the batsmen take the aerial route. I would like to think if the pacers manage to keep the runs in check until the 10th over then we could bring in a spinner in one end. Lets see what happens...

I only saw half a second of Andrew Symond's 5-for, and it is a very good indication to point it towards us that if we hope to bat anything better than we did today in the coming SL tour - then we'd better learn how to bat on turning tracks, SOON.

Because today's pitch was VERY VERY DUSTY, TURNING A LOT and our batsman had no clue to playing accurate spin bowling (which I'm sorry to say; even after for being a team from the sub-continent).

No one can play cricket except Ashraful in the Bangladeshi team. How can you expect them to win. What team loses 8 wickets for 26 runs. Is that a record for the biggest downfall in cricket hisory. I still gotta say Nafees impressed me today and Ashraful another 50.
These players are our only hope, if we wanna challencge England. Ashraful will have to do 150 and Nafees will have to do 100 because rest of the 9 players can maximium make 10 runs togather

Bangladesh disapointed me a lot today.

You got into a good position and then threw your wickets away by playing ridiculous shots. This after I thought you had improved your batting.

Your batting performance is proven to be poor by the fact Symonds bowled 4/11 of your batsmen inside 36 overs. Symonds is a handy bowler but shouldn't be bowling international batsmen.

Your bowling, as usual was toothless and easily dispatched to all parts.
