Led by Khaled Mahmud Sujan BCB Green inflicted a massive 83-run defeat on BCB Red Team, led by Akram Khan, in the Independence Day exhibition match on Wednesday at Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium.

In fact the match was a trial game for the selection of the Bangladesh national team which will play in the upcoming home Triangular-series with India and South Africa.

Sent into bat first BCB Green made a respectable 249 for six in stipulated 50 overs. The score built around a 116-run partnership between Javed Omar Gullu and Habibul Bashar Sumon in the third wicket after losing two wickets for 34 runs.

Gullu scored 66 runs off 97 balls with six fours, while Sumon smashed eight fours to score 59 off 75 ball before being caught by Aminul Islam Bulbul at mid-wicket off Naimur Rahman Durjoy.

Sanwar Hosain and Mohammed Salim also played key roles as both of them remained unbeaten after scoring 38 and 30 runs respectively.

Sanwar played 30 balls to score 30 runs with three boundaries, while Salim made 32 off 30 balls hitting three fours and six.

Despite a flying start by openers Mehrab Hossain Opee and Shariar Hossain Biddyut, the two inaugural Test openers of Bangladesh team, the Red team failed to reach to a respectable position as they were bundled out for 166 runs in 40 overs.

Opee and Biddyut added a quickfire 35 in 5.1 overs. But after the departure of the openers the middle order batsmen failed to continue the trend and returned to the pavilion at regular intervals.

Opee struck 37 off 27 balls with seven shots to the ropes, while Biddyut made 16 runs off 15 balls. Mushfiqur Rahman Babu was the main scorer for Red XI with 42

Another exhibition match will take place tomorrow at the same venue.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman distributed prizes as chief guest. Earlier, in the morning the two captains and managers released balloons to mark the observance of the Independence Day.

Captaincy: 2 captains were Sujon and Akram.....team that Sujon captained won and soon after he's given captaincy

Also if this match determined whose selected.....if Sumon is picked and scores runs in the Tri Series you may just seen Habibul_fan back on the board ;)
