Guess what... end of all the anxieties about what will be Bangladesh's revised Ranking after the LG-ICC Rankings underwent their annual update today!!

Bangladesh is now the 10th ODI Nation with Rating of 15!!

So it is certain now that BD will be playing in the next ICC Champion's trophy qualifying round probably along with England(6th), West-Indies(8th) & Zimbabwe(9th)...if the ranking table remains same till 1st April, 2006!!

However... Kenya has only played two matches during the rating period which is not enough for it to be accorded a ranking.... so they are discarded from the Rank Table.

Australia remains top after LG ICC ODI table annual update (http://www.icc-cricket.com/icc-odi/content/story/214622.html) © ICC

So we are top ten (out of 10) from top 11 (out of 11).

Its a progress and we are supposed to be happy I guess. However my reaction is lukewarm to 'as-usual' at best.

I will be really happy when we cross ZIM at #9. Until then, my reactions is, well whatever...

Yaa... I kinda felt the same too... so I changed the Title of the post rather to focuss on the only usefull outcome (Champ. Trophy) of this revised ranking.

hmm... still a long way to go ahead of Zimbabwe. But nice to see we are certain to play in Champion's Trophy though.

No its not a long way. Only 12 months away.

Last 1 year, we did bettet than Zimbabwe. If this continues, we will do better than them this year too. That means, next August when they drop 2003-2004 results, we will become number 9, ahead of Zimbabwe and pretty close to West Indies (unless they win some ODI more than us).

this is bangladesh's highest ever ODI point.

This tells us that our team needs to keep working hard.

The feeling is same here, too. I know that I should be 'overwhelmed' with our improvement in the rankings (from number 11 to number 10), but I don't seem to feel it like that.

Some of you did point it out that you're not feeling the same because you think that our goal is crossing Zimbabwe.

Well, I'm feeling not as good as I thought I should be because our win percentage is still very low, plus, Kenya did not get to play any match whatsoever, so we got the improvement in the rankings due to 'default', rather than us being a better team than Kenya right now.

Yeah a lot you are not that exited about the new.....But it saved us from the embarrassment for not being able to compete in the qualifying round even we a test nation!

Not really..
ICC ranked teams 1-5 & India are certain to play in next Champ trophy. The remaining 4 teams (Eng, WI, Zim & BD according to current table) will play in the Champ Trophy Qualifying Round from which the top 2 teams will play in the Champ Trophy.

Now lets do our best to be one of those 2 teams. At present it does not look impossible at all.

I consider the qualifying tobe a part of the champions trophy. The ODI's we play vs the bottom 4 will be official ODI's so io think of the matches as art of the chapions trophy.

I was sick of seeing kenya ahead of us. Every sports channel used to show our 11th ranking during the ODIs. At least that's fixed.

We're in the top 10. Not out of 10, we're in the top ten of the whole world. This should be moral boosting.

They've earned it by hard work. In the last 1-1/2 year or so, we've had 6 ODI wins.

Zimbabwe must be feeling the pressure now. :)

Two ideas on ODI ranking:

1- I see you are quite disappoined about being behind Zimbabwe, but having won one ODI vs India and one vs Australia (!!!) and a series on Zimbabwe itself (though being 0-2 down) clearly show great progress by Bangladesh.

2- When will the ICC consider about a "real" ODI world ranking comprehensive of all the ODI (i.e. including world cup qualifiers) played between cricket nations, to give some dignity to the efforts made by all of the federations to improve.
Do they want to develop cricket in the world? So why is this probably the only sport in the world in which you don't have a world ranking?

(sorry for being off-topic...)

:karate:At last bangladesh goes on the 10th position on the new ICC ranking.they have got 15 points and they beat kenya on the ranking status. It is a very good news for us because if they keeps this pos till april next year, they can play qualifying game to get to play in the ICC champions trophy.THATS WHY SAY 3 CHEERS FOR OUR CRICKET TEAM.

GOD BLESS BANGLADESH!!!!!:fanflag::great::great:

There is no doubt that we're improving . Now , we want Bangladesh to show more improvements during the tour in Srilanka. Atleast we need to win one ODI.

I am still in bit of confusion about another Ranking Table. ICC has recently declared that they will award ODI status to 5 more nations plus Kenya.. that makes 6 new ODI-only teams. And because they are ICC ODI teams... there has to be some sort of ranking system for them. Will ICC extend it's current ODI ranking table and make it between 16 nations in total or will they create a seperate Ranking Chart for the 6 new? :duh:

According to the predictor (http://www.icc-cricket.com/icc/odi/predictor.html), Kenya has a higher rating than us. According to ICC, they need to play some matches to be included in the ranking. So, if Zim-Ban-Ken tri-series happens to take place and if Kenya somehow manages to win few matches against us or Zimbabwe, they can still overtake us and Zim in the ranking.
