View Full Version : Who is that TV/Third Umpire?

What was wrong with him? He made is ground and that was totally unfair. I don't think it is unlucky. Was he being cautious? ….wait no……if he was then it would have gone for batsman’s favor. Or he wants to make sure that he has some free time to do some shopping after the game is over within three days.
We can’t do it even straight forward, how are we going to survive this type of bad decision? Whatever the case is Basher was going 80 MPH and he definitely could have scored his century and even more.

Peter Manuel - is he an international ump? Or a domestic one with a itchy finger for opposition batsmen? :)
Sorry

often i get the feeling that umpires tend to favour the opposition whenever bangladesh players. Like they think we haven't earned their good and honest umpiring. Any of you get that impression?

Which commentary you have listened? he was saying he made his gorund and it wasnt clear and in that case, batsman always get the benefit of the doubt.

Bashar did make his ground, but his bat was in the air when the stumps were broken. TV replays exist to make these kinds of decisions. It is hard on Bashar and BD but there was no injustice.

I think Robin the commentator explained, if you are on the crease and you jump up on air and the ball hits the stump, you are not out. So, he should not have been given out anyways.

Huh?!?! were we even watching the same game? Atahar and Manjrekar both were shocked.
This is what happened:
1) Bashar forces the ball to silly mid-on...where the fielder picks up and throws the wicket down.
2) Bashar makes his ground comfortably, grounding his bat.
3) Bucknor asks for the third umpire almost as an after thought.
4) the replay shows that the event was more interesting than it looked to the naked eye.
5) Bashar grounds his bat comfortably before the ball even reaches the crease.
6) However, since Bashar was diving back in, the bat hit the ground hard and then bounced once and then a SECOND time. By the time bails were completely dislodged Bashar's bat had bounced the second time and was in the air.
7) The controversial aspect was this: The ball did not dislodge the bails when the bat was in the air the first time. Rather the ball seemed to hit the wicket when bashar's bat was on the ground again in between the two 'bounces'. Once the bails are dislodged Bashar is under no obligation to keep his bat grounded, so it didn't matter that Bashar's bat was in the air as the bail were falling to the ground. At the very least, after numerous replays, there was NO WAY to tell whether Bashar's bat was in the air at the PRECISE moment the bails got dislodged. In fact it looked as if the bails got dislodged at the time Bashar's bat grounded in between the two 'bounces'. Certainly, these decisions always go in the favour of the batsmen. So Bashar can count himself desperately unlucky.
It's one thing to be given falsely out by the umpires on the field who do not have benefit of the replays. Such blunders on part of the third umpire really is unacceptable. I hope somebody from our management has a good talk with Peter Manuel.

Zobair, u are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! This bunch of bad decisions always go against us. Everybody in the commentary box were saying he was very unlucky. I do hope that jerk manager we have, go and talk to the 3rd umpire and give him a earful. Lets see how big his balls are.

I saw all the replays and there was no way he should have been given out. Zobair explained it perfectly. and what happened to the "benefit of doubt" going to the batsman? there was more than doubt in this case.
This is a case of blatant biased umpiring by Manuel and the BCB should look into it.

 umpire's decision was really disappoining. bashar was looking really good on his way to 4th test century. manuel made a very bad decision. i think any other umpire on any other day against any other team would've favored the batsman on a case like this.

I haven't followed the match but do get a feel of what would've happened.
I have a totally unrelated, but then again very much related take on this. Okay, don't blame me if your head starts to spin
I believe that once the bat has been grounded, the run is COMPLETE. After that, if ball hits the stumps and the batsman is in the air dancing, i don't see why it should change anything.
The "bat in the air" or "batsman flying like superman" angle should be applied only if and when the batsman turns around for the second run.

So now it looks like the idea about 3rd Umpire is not also working (at least for us). Who will prevent 3rd Umpire's biasness.
I propose implementation of a 4th Umpire to supervise 3rd Umpire's controversial decision.

no SL ump for rest of the series. SL umps have some kind of grudge against us! They don't even want us to win against other team let alone theirs :E

:D Razab bhai! you see right through me don't you? Let's just say, if certain people found out that I was spending my nights watching cricket, and sleeping during the day time, instead of searching for that plush job, I would be in for it.
