View Full Version : A big problem is over: Now What?

Last year, we were placed into a must win situation against india because we lost to NZ at the first match. It would have been the same if we were to loose against the same opponent today.

phew!!!!!!

it did not happen, and we had a sweet revenge of that match. Now what? From a calculation point of view?

It would have been much easier for us if pak vs NZ match was the next one. Then, we could safely say, we have made it to the cup phrase for the first time. Unfortunately, that is the last match. Before that we face pakistan and uganda. safe to say we'll win against uganda. will we win against pakistan? That is a hard one. If we do, we go to the cups as group champions. If we don't, we have to wait for NZ v pak match. It is likey that pak will win it. if not, the calculation will be harder for us. We have to wait for the RR to decide who goes to the top two. In that case we have to wait and see. But that is an unlikely one, and in all other combination we'll be in the top two.

Lets see, what would happen if we make it to the top two. In two possible combination, we are group champs and group runners up.

I sure hope we make it to the cup phrase as group champions. The reason is, if we do, the most likely team we'll face in the quater finas are Zimbabwe. We have already beaten them. And since they have come close once the cubs will be more careful about thrushing them this time. That would mean semis. I'll stop here, lets be in the semis frist and then we'll see how the calculation goes. but how about if we go to the quaterfinals as runners up? Then, we'll meet England the 11-0 boys. That is not too bad either in terms of opponent for quater finals. and then we'll have a big chance of semis as well.

bottom line, after winning the first match we are in an advantage position for cup semis!!!!

too many extras were given.22 wides,33 total.this could have been fatal if nz scored 200+.we must show more discipline in bowling.

Uganda must not be underestimated. In the U19 level weaker teams sometimes play just as good as the 'stronger' teams they are playing (look at srilankas game today). But this win puts us in the box seat for a trip into the last 8 (virtual spot in the semis if we play england in the quaters). Zim will be a harder team to beat compaired to the england u19 team (who have not shown any form in the last 2 years).

The BD team doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders, but enough players are stepping up to get the job done. Having depth and wining close games is what it's all about, and this team seems to know how to pick up the points. Other than the wides, the bowlers did well.

I don't think it matters whether we play Zim or Eng in the quarterfinals - both teams are going to give better accounts of themselves then any pre-tournament results suggest. Neither will be push overs and BD will have to work pretty hard to win. Unless our top order batsmen find their form soon.

The reason we are overcoming the the bowling defficiencies are due to pitch favoring spin/slow/medium pace bowling. I never saw any of our seamers making headlines for their wicket taking reasons. It has always been shuvo, mehrab, saqib, etc. Need some work in that area if this team needs to be competitive in future games. With that, I think the Sub continent teams/teams with better slow/spin bowlers will get better results.

We did it once can we do it again and beat PAK? Why not we have all the resources available and just have to play our best now.Our batting line is a long one and if we bat first than have to score atleast 260+ run.

Chasing is always a tough one and if BD wins the toss I expect them bat first.

We won against NZ with pinners but can we do it again with PAK?
PAK plays good against spinners so it has to be our pacers to step up and contribute something now.

Well, Bowling has to be more disciplined. They gave away 33 extra. Thats too many.

absolutely no complacency! no let-up! we must be a juggernaut! At least that should be attitude. Nothing short of the Champ title should suffice.

I think boys pretty much confirmed a berth in the super league with yesterday's win, even though I have a feeling that cubs are not dealing well with all these commotions being a pre-tournament favorite. Pakistan got a very balanced side, don't think NZ have much chances against them.

In the knock out rounds..... I am keeping my fingers crossed, anything can happen there.

Both ENG and ZIM seems pretty strong, ENG might have changed lot of players than the team which toured BD recently. Both team seems more consistent than previous, so it doesn't matter who we face in quarter final. If our target is semi final or final, then there is no way but beat all the team we face on the way.

So lets do it from the next game against PAK, bring them down.

I am more worried about rain then Uganda. I was reading through some of the posts in the match thread and there were several posts about D/L method/target. IN a D/L situation, anything can happen.

Other then that:
- The boys need to be more consistent and need to come out of their shells. We are lucky to have so many good players as they have managed to pick up the slack on both batting and bowling. It was a team effort today. What scared me was that the US scored 146 against us and Zimbabwe came alarmingly close. Let's not forget the 76/5 at one stage in the NZ game. We could definitely do without those scenarios.
- 33 extras in a score of 176 ? That's ok against a team like NZ but other teams will take advantage of such generosity.
- Complecency would be abig issue when we face Uganda and if we face either england/zimbabwe.
- We should beat Pakistan. If we are trully a tournament favorite, we should approach every match as winners. No need to doubt our own strength.

Having said all these, there's no doubt in my mind that we can beat anyone on any given day. We just need to start playing at 100%.

Not if we beat them on the 8th. We beaten them before and can do it again. Then we can play the part of king maker or is it bridal party?

Why would Pakistan do something like that ? Quite frankly, a very absurd suggestion. Let's focus on the games and keep politics out.

If you do want to discuss politics, however ill advised it may be, feel free to discuss it in the FORGET CRICKET forum.

না তেহসীন ভাই, এ রকম হতেই পারে ।
But they have to be very careful otherwise ICC would kick both of them out. If we win against Pakistan then there is no chance of that.

Beating Uganda won't be difficult at all after observing their performance against Pakistan. The real question here now is, will we be able to beat Pakistan again to prove our dominance?
