ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup Sri Lanka 2006

Super League QF draw reverts to original schedule

Brian Murgatroyd

February 10, 2006

The Technical Committee of the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup has decided to revert to the original schedule for the Super League quarter-finals following representations from participating teams, it was announced today.

The decision announced on 9 February to alter the venues for the matches - which will take place on Saturday 11 February - was taken by the Committee in an attempt to minimise the advantage gained by India and Sri Lanka, who had played all their group matches at the R. Premadasa Stadium, by switching them away from the venue.

However, after those representations it was decided to reinstate the original, publicised schedule on the basis that this was how the teams had made their match preparations.

The original schedule did not indicate which of Super League quarter-finals two and four would be played at the R.Premadasa Stadium or the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC).

Given that the issue regarding Super League quarter-final matches at R Premadasa and SSC was based on the results in Group C, it was further decided that the winner of Group C would play its quarter-final match at R Premadasa Stadium.

As such, the draw for the Super League quarter-finals is as follows (with teams added in now that the final round of group matches has concluded):

QF 1 - Bangladesh v England at P.Saravanamuttu Stadium
QF 2 - India v West Indies at R.Premadasa Stadium
QF 3 - Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC)
QF 4 - Australia v Sri Lanka at Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC)

The Plate Championship quarter-final matches were also decided in the light of the final matches in each group and those matches are as follows:

QF 1 - New Zealand v Ireland at R.Premadasa Stadium
QF 2 - Namibia v USA, SSC
QF 3 - Nepal v Uganda, P.Saravanamuttu Stadium
QF 4 - South Africa v Scotland, NCC

The Plate Championship quarter-finals will take place on 14 February.

The Super League semi-finals (on February 15 & 17) and the Super League final (February 19) will all take place at R.Premadasa Stadium and all will be televised.

The six-man tournament Technical Committee is made up as follows:

Warren Deutrom (chairman), Chris Nockels (ICC representative), Bandula Warnapura (Host Tournament Director), Anura Tennekoon (Sri Lanka Cricket representative), Richard Done (ICC High Performance Manager and independent nomination) and Graeme Labrooy (also an independent nomination).

Look at here, the england team is not at all fairly composed, they are having problems at their dressing room.It may be a cause they lose to zim.
Stoneman found guilty of Code of Conduct breach, receives serious reprimand

Brian Murgatroyd

February 9, 2006

England player Mark Stoneman has received a serious reprimand for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his country's match against Ireland in the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka.

Stoneman was found guilty of causing damage in the team dressing room at the Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) by ICC Match Referee Alan Hurst in a hearing after play concluded in Colombo on Wednesday.

Stoneman was found to have breached 1.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings.

"The player apologized for his actions and expressed embarrassment and regret at what he did. He now realises there is no place for this sort of behaviour in International cricket," said Mr Hurst.

All Level 1 breaches carry a maximum penalty of an official reprimand at the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup 2006.

The charge was brought by ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup Tournament Director Bandula Warnapura. Mr Hurst reached his conclusion after a hearing attended by Stoneman, Travis Harris (Manager CCC), Sunil Siriwardena (Venue Security Manager), John Abrahams (England Manager) and Andy Pick (England Coach).

For Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct the ICC Match Referee's decision is final and binding.

The BIG QUESTION is whether ICC will provide score update for Bangladesh vs. England Quarter Final tonight. All four quarterfinal will take place today at the same time. As we all know, ICC has capability to cover just 2 of the 4 matches. Two matches will be left out of coverage and it is possible that our match might be one of these 2.

MartinW knew about the ICC live coverage schedule. He is the one who told us well ahead that Bangladesh’s match against Pakistan and Uganda will be covered. I wish he could give us some update on this issue. Does anyone else have any confirmed information?

Acording to Moeen Ali : " he thinks england will only win if Bangladesh underestimate them". This means they already know what's coming a head of them.

Not Actually.
They covered just two matches as usual.
For the other two matches---it was was hourly update (not over by over).

So, it if they do just like last night and we are the unlucky one---then we will be looking at a scorecard (not the BBB format) which updated once in a hour.

Dont blame it only on the Umpires.. we have no choice on that matter. Besides, this is no DOHS-Biman game,, it wont be that bad.

I am a bit saddened that Tamim couldve made a name for himself, so couldve Saqib.... but we didnt see either one to flourish in this tournament ( unless they do it today or during the finals). As they always say,,, all well when the ends well.. we need to finish up the tournament with Win ( or a tough fight) against UK. Its only expected when a team was lost 11 match in a row against even the 2nd string U19.

Sure they will bouce back sometime...but the margin of error is very minimal at this stage. You have to perform every time to win. Suppose we lose today..what is the point of boucning back in the pay-off matches for the losers?

guys, we really need to change our top order batsmans, they were doing a horrible job throughout the tournament. Look at Indias batting and look at ours. If our lower order don't pull us up like they did earlier, then it seems like we gono loose to England.

rafiq
February 11, 2006, 12:58 AM
I keep saying Mushfiq has to bat further up the order. Don't understand the logic of having your best batsman and captain bat at #6. If he can pull this one off, he is something special. Optimistically, I don't see england batsmen scoring too many runs in this match...we need to play out the 50 if we can I guess. I'd hate the team to go out of the tournament losing to england!

I would sacrifice Nabil, Rezaul is not too bad of a batsman.

Where are England U-19's strengths and weaknesses?

Is their pace attack their strongest point? Or is it their spin attack? Or are they brilliant bowlers, but not so good batsman?

ekatturerBangalee

Pakistan 60/4 against India 2nd ODI.
They recovered. Now score is 98/4

I hope we will recover as well.

Mushfiq saved us many times.
Keeping fingers crossed

Guys we should not scold this team, our problem is that we are too easily impressed with our young players, we start talking about national team way too soon. Its good that they are loosing, this way, in the future (next two to 3 years) they won't have soo much pressure and expectation and will be able to develope into much better cricketers. They should loose and learn from it. I hope today we can comeback ofcourse, but a loose will hurt and it will be interesting but in the long run, it will be better for the players. If we win today and end up winning the world cup then i'll be most happy but then we fans, like I said earlier become too happy too soon and end raising the player way too high and the pressure get to him which results in him becoming a inferior player. So a lose today is not that bad for the future.

Mushfique has been saving us in the last 2 matches, isn't he? I am not sure how he can continue doing that over and over again.

200 is highly improbable from this situation.

they have to score around 170-180 to have a fighting chance. even then anything less than 200 is almost impossible to defend.

No really.
It was 70/5 in 23 Over.
The nest update was 70/5 in 26 over.
So it was just a simple calculation.

Did they got out wicket taking deliveries? Or they threw their wickets out? I dont know. England took fielding winning the toss, so there must be something for the bowlers...........

So when the SMS is late....what do you guys think....good or bad?
