Any Experiment, if we have to, should be done early in the series. We should use all the resources available to us wisely to give our ODI side a new dimension. Remember, the Indian ODI team that used to be at the bottom with us in the ICC’s chart, now doing pretty good, and I think that’s because they have done a lot of experimentation with their team. So what can we do differently to give our team a new look?

Option # 1
Abdur Razzak, unfortunately for the most part in recent time, has lost the battle for the 2nd spinner option to Manjurul Islam Rana. What I mean is that he hasn’t been utilized enough. The problem with his bowling action is a thing of the past, and he has matured as a player since then. His last outing with the Natioanl team Boys was Duleep Trophy in India, and he was one rare Bright spot there (strictly in comparison with other players). He was used to bowl twice as many overs as other bowlers, and he grabbed 5 top order wickets. He was also the only Bangladeshi Batsman to score a half century in the whole trounament. Razzak as an ODI player has a decent stat for a Bowler.

class mat balls runs wkts bbi bbm ave econ sr 4 5 10
ODIs 6 318 214 7 3/17 3/17 30.57 4.03 45.42 0 0 0
First-cla 34 7736 3313 117 7/11 28.31 2.56 66.11 2 4 1
List A 40 1991 1176 71 7/17 7/17 16.56 3.54 28.04 1 2 0

</pre>

Bottom line: Include him for the first 2 ODIs.

Option # 2

No matter how much we love Javed Omar, his style does not suit the limited over games. Rajin seems to be in good touch, and he has done well as an opener.

Bottom line: Send Rajin to open the innings with Shahriar Nafees, for the first 2 ODIs, if that doesn’t work, we know we have Javed.

Option # 3

Number 3 has been a tricky position in the batting line. I think the best one in that slot at this moment would be Aftab, considering he did well as a number 3 as opposed to a number 6.

Bottom line: Give Aftab all three games at number 3.

Option # 4

Rana should play all 3 games; let’s find out for good if he really deserve a permanent spot in our ODI squad.

Bottom line: Stick to 2 pacers/ 3 spinners for the first 2 ODIs. Fortunately, all of these 5 bowlers can bat.

Option # 5

For whatever reason we are playing Kapali, and ChaCha, lets just use them as SuperSub.

Bottom line: The way things have gone in the past, this can’t be ChaCha’s last series. So, we will give him a proper farewell when it’s his turn.

So Here is my team for the First 2 ODIs.

Rajin Saleh
Sahriar Nafees
Aftab Ahmed
Mohammed Ashraful
Habibul Bashar
Mohammed Rafique
Khaled Masud Pilot
Manjurul Islam Rana
SK Russel
Abdur Razzak
Mashrafe Mortaza

Super Sub: Kapali/Chacha

I would play kapali in the first eleven instead of Razzak and use Razzak as supersub... otherwise if we bat first, we are a batsman short and eventhough most of our bowlers can bat, an extra batsman will be definately beneficial to us...

Can't agree with this one. He is out of match practice. Let our captain or Ash take the responsibility at 3.

Supersub'er din shesh. ICC will take put a stop to that in March 2006.

Option # 6
Get mushfiq in the mix. At least on the 3rd ODI.

Option # 7
Chacha can get the farewell series against Kenya instead of the SLs.
Option # 8
divide 10 overs between Ash and Aftab.
