View Full Version : Major factors in today's win

1. Aftab Ahmed is a matchwinner. There is no doubt about it. Was instrumental in the Zimbabwean series victory and contributed in every other significant result since he's been in the team.

The win over India, very sensible half century got us a respectable target and then was brilliant in the field to make sure it was defended

Tidy spell against Australia when Clarke and Martyn could easily have got away from then and then played a great composed knock with the bat

Today he featured with the ball again, conceeding 4/over and picking up a vital wicket. Came to the crease when they were cruising to the total but with two quick wickets the momentum had swung. Very good innings under pressure made sure of the result and did it easy in the end

2. The SuperSub. Rajin wasn't too effective with the bat but the planning behind it was brilliant. The plan was good...the bowlers do their job on a pitch which moved around on Monday and then get an extra batsman for the chase. The bowlers did their job and then some and then having the luxury of putting pads on another specialist bat made the target look just that much more gettable.

It was a good idea and with a bit of luck was executed very well. Thumbs up to Bashar, Whatmore and the Bangladeshi think tank. A job well done.

To add,

-Kapali Shining both with the bat and the ball

-Ash keeping his head cool

-Superb bowling by all except Nazmul

-JO playing positively (changing his approach in ODI?)

-Superb keeping by Pilot.

-Excellent fielding

-Team spirit

I also have something to say about the Super Sub: I thought that we could not win against Sri Lanka the last time in Sri Lanka was because of these 2 new rules - supersub and powerplay.

But today's game only proved to me that no matter what the rule is, if we play to our potential, then we can win against any team considering that we have some luck going our way.

Think of today's match - though i didn't see the incident, but I heard from my Dad after hearing it from the commentators that Ashraful could have been out if the ball had not dropped short of a fielder in one particular occassion?

Dont forget Javer Omar guys.........he has a huge contribution to the win....he lead the foundation of this historic win.....We always tend to forget his contribution.

Now this is what I call nitpicking. This kind of things are not even considered a "life" and happens to every batsman in many of their big scores.

one more to add:

Almost all batsmen played sensibly.

Shahriar Nafees's out , it wasn't touched by nothing still it's out :) What an umpiring ?

Jayasuriya's LBW shout by Mashrafe was plumb , still not out .

Rajin Saleh's out was clearly outside off with very high ball but it's still out :)

Javed Omar's out , that was completely joke .

I am still happy after all these we still managed to win the match :)

Now big task is to win the series , yes we can do it as we have done it against the Zimbabwe .

"Ahmed, who had bowled parsimoniously, batted like a millionaire. Fifty seven runs were needed in 11.3 overs when Kapali joined him in the middle. Bangladesh had just lost their attacking-duo of Habibul Bashar and Ashraful, who in a 63-run partnership had taken Bangladesh close, and a collapse under pressure was the expected tale. But Aftab and Kapali held their nerves and inched close before Aftab decided to hasten the end with some stunning hits. Khaled Mashud's push to short third-man ushered in the historic win." - Cricinfo

That's called the "captaincy" . Those who have been saying Bashar is not a good captain . That's a great answer for them .

the best thing about the match (other than us winning) was that ashraful batted like he actually had a brain...:P

To me the major reason this team won today -

They wanted to win today

Yes, I think it is as simple as that. Most other days, our team is more concerned with saving themselves from utter humiliation. Today they had a different goal.

The Tiger, hopefully, is getting hungry :)

Talking about contribution, you have to give the credit to all 11 player of the team. Yes, 11 not 12. Beside Nazmul, the win is a soup of complete team effort

1. JO: did his job of keeping wicket and get the runs going. Good thing that SL captain did not know that if he took off power play JO's run scoring would have been halted big time. Still credit goes to JO.

2. Shahriar Nafis: was playing quite good besides some swing and miss. One attitude I did not like about him, if a bowler did something good to deserve respect, he will try to snatch it at the very next ball, making unwanted risks.

3. Rajin: Actually did not get out so can't blame for low score. still, partnership was not too short.

4. Ashraful: of course we would not win it without him.

5. Bashar: supported as with the partnership and frustrated SL.

6. Aftab: bat and bowl. hope he will turn out to be a true allrounder.

7. Alok: a crutial breaktrough when needed it. Also, kept it calm for the most part under pressure.

8. Russel: bowled really well. I can only hope we have found a buddy for mashrafee.

9. Rafique: good bowling and important wicket.

10. mashrafee: best bowling. should have gotten more wicket.

11. masud: an excellent catch and one lightening fast run out dismissal.

they all togather made the win look easy.

Instumental: bowling, only 11 extras. That should be the least BD ever had in 50 overs, if not then the second. No legbyes shows not many balls were on the leg side, bowlers maintain the line and length and stuck to their strategy. Great fielding. Except for K Mashud's stumping chance and couple of catches. K Masud redeemed himself with with two glorious catches; great eyes and hands he has. Aftab's diving effort going backwards showed the determination these boys had. Two direct hits, one runout can go on and on.

Opening: JO is 29, with 10 years playing ODI. With the domestic performance one could see he is applying his knowledge (We all know his limitations) of the game. We should milk the cash cow starting now. S Nafis - The future of BD was unfortunately out.

Middle order: Rajin, still an under study of JO's replacement. Ash finally a 50. (I was calling for his head if he didn't perform in this series) His batting was the backbone of BDs innings. came in when BD was 45/2 left at 155. Bashar played a Captain's Knock valuable 33 and gave the advatage to BD. Aftab, true champ, hats off to him. Alok, made sure we reach our target.

Tail: what tail we didn't need their batting :) this time around.

BD played a better overall game. Congratulations! Now we want to build on this. Play the 3rd ODI as if we would be stripped from our ODI status if we can't win it. Repeat today's performance with more conviction and effort.

Major factor ? Those in this forum criticize JO should eat their own word. Fact is , we need JO in the team, we need him for very , very , very long time.

Did JO perform well in this match?
- Yes

Do we need to find his replacement?
- As soon as possible

The main reason for which the criticism he gets as ODI batsman is his inablility to rotate strike and taking single/doubles. It still exists, and fortunately he didn't have to prove his critics wrong today.

Javed 40, the biggest factor to make us win da match.

I wont regard our bowlers as the biggest factor coz our bowlers often bowl nicely comp to our batsmans. Besides, Mash, Rasel & Rafique are often consistent in ODI's. Its never is much surprising to us when our bowlers do well coz they often do it, i mean compared to our batsmans they are better in perfroming...still credit also goes to them

but the biggest factor is our batsmans 2day and especially to help us see of the new ball well...he changed his approach towards ODI today.

He was palying differently today....hope he plays like how he played today in ODI's from now on....Javed u da man 2day !!!

No sir,
it only ensures we will face SL for the qualifying round. Unless England loses all the matches against Ind :) Then we face England I think.

Winning the toss

Getting to bowl in the best bowling conditions

It was almost similar in nature to the Aussie victory.

The bowling first on a good bowling wicket seems to work.

I think when the batsman know that they have a set target they tend to play more reasonably than when they bat first and really have no goal in mind.

They want to get 300 from the start and play all the rash shots in the world.
