View Full Version : Umpiring today

what do you think about it?
Mahbubur rahman do not seem to be an able umpire

February 22, 2006, 08:29 AM
He screwed it up big time. One blunder that went for us set the tone. As it seems, hariharan gave jayasuria a clear life to make up for it. Then, as if that was not enough, 3 other out was given to us that is not out. so, we actually win by 7 wickets not 4. We had to work hard to overcome bad umpiring. if this is the situation at home, what can we expect aboard? we need to make sure umpiring goes right at the decider this saturday.

I also think we need to train some umpire to be world class, maybe sending them to umpire in other countries,i feel pity seeing the standerds of BD umpires.

February 22, 2006, 09:09 AM
Why there was local umpires in the first place? Neutral Umpires should conduct the matches to avoid any type of controversy. What is ICC doing?

Agree with you Shark on more training though.

Hariharan is not a local umpire.

February 22, 2006, 09:25 AM
And i dont think hariharan was a better umpire than mahbub today, icc seems to experiment with umpires in bd matches, the board should protest to it.

We also need to bring class umpires for the local league, then our umpires might learn something from them.

Sorry, why was Mr. Mahbubur Rahman umpiring? His mistake gave the Indian umpire the openning to do more damage. Couldn't we get at least two foreign umpires? No controversial issue would come up then.

Usually, in any home series ODI, one umpire is local and one is from a 3rd country. It has been a tradition for a long time. Some country, specially pakistan is asking for both 3rd country umpire, but it did not happen and do not think it will happen anytime soon.

I thought only the 3rd umpire can be from the home side because his job is very transparent as he deals with video footages... can't cheat there as the whole world is watching. Field umpires are 3rd country neutral ones, right:info:

Only in test.

In ODI, unless its a tournament, one umpire is always from the host country.

Stupid umpire ta match hariye diye chilo. Olppor jonno bechi gechi amra. But can't complain we won.

Dont u guys feel Mahbubur Rahman kinda odd while umpiring.....I mean his body language(dumb) and his gestures, expressions (sucks!!!).

I wonder his umpiring qualifications???

I think there is better umpire than him in Bangladesh...it is Akhteruddin Shaheen??? is it???

One question strikes me a lot ..i.e. BCB does a lot for Bangladesh Cricket but why do they never take an initiative for umpiring and stuffs like that...

My few cents' -

1. Mahbubur Rahman looks idiotic and highly depressing. I know it has nothing to do with his umpiring, but this is one thing that hit me when I saw him on TV screen first.

2. Both Hariharan and Mahbubur made gross mistakes. We cannot do anything about Hariharan, but BCB should send Mahbubur an eye specialist. And may be umpire training school.

3. If we could, Hariharan should be sent to a hearing specialist, as well as an eye specialist (Nafees did not nick that delivery).

4. Both of them should be sent to Psychiatrists. These umpires need stronger nerve. They wilted to SriLankan screaming appeals so easily!

5. Our cricketers need to be coached a little in screaming techniques. Obviously during appeal, proper degree of screaming can get you a couple of wickets from lame umpires.

Bottom line: As far as mistakes go, I think Umpires always tend to err on the side of the more established teams, perhaps sub-consciously. BD fought SL and Bad Umpiring to win this match. So, double cause for celebration!

Btw, Nadir Shah as 3rd Ump was awesome! Big Kudos to him. Wish he would do some on-the-field Umpiring in this series ... I know he is not chalked in, still wishing.

well said souron...how come all the desition goes against bangladesh.....we can remember multan test where umpires wrong disition cost us out first test win .

1 to 4 I agree 110%.

5 totally disagree. the game should be played the right way. Why try to influence the umpires? Just because Shane Warne and others gets into the skins of the umpires we don't have to. We are much better than that. Secondly, if screaming longer becomes a habit while trying to influence too much, when we are in tour, or if the SLan Chief judge is present, we will be fined, reprimand. We should not cut corners like others. Think about it. :)

If there is any doubt in any players mind about an umpire`s decision, he must have the right to ask it to the third umpire and the match referee - Just like an umpire can ask the third umpire whenever he has a doubt.

Umpire is not a damn machiene, he is a human - bound to do mistakes. Do you live in a freaking dark ages or what? why dont we use the technology on ground for wrong decisions???

ICC is a Prosti.....

I dont know how many of u saw this but when Mahbub chacha gave that lbw there were some incidents took place in that over. I think it was the 1st ball where it hit the pad and certainly it was out or very very close but Mahbub turned it down. The bowler, Malinga, went to him and asking him why it was not out and I think at that time few more players came up to him too. I saw Ash, on the non stricker, was telling the bowler/fielder to back off. But freaking vdo buffering didnt let me see all of it. Anybody saw this episode? I think because of that pressure, Mahbub gave the lbw on the 3rd/4th ball in that over.

I dont support the idea of players demanding an explanation from the umpire. that would bring chaos to the game.

Bad calls always happen. not only in cricket, also in any sports regradess. And still Sports is heavenly. :)

I am sure hte bad calls eventualy even out among teams. Like SL suffer for Mubarak and we suffered for S.Nafees.

Yeah, even though they are human and might miss calls, but loosing the authority and integrty of a game would be much more costly.
