SL fans in cricbuzz seem very irritated.... at least this 'fear' and 'insecurity' is something BD has achieved! :joy:

The first few overs after lunch is vital, usually this has been bad time for BD

AsifTheManRahman
March 2, 2006, 12:59 AM
this is a golden opportunity that we have here. the game is not over yet, but rather half way through. our batters should understand that there is a long way to go, and that planning the game out session by session is the way to go. let's see if we can have a decent 30 overs here - i would say losing a single wicket wouldn't hurt, whereas losing more than two would mean big trouble.

Just got back, and worrily looked at the scorecard. Isn't that pretty? Shahadat swept the trail pretty well, and more importanly BD didn't lose any wickets in 10 overs before lunch. Well done. So far so good.

So why is Nafis Iqbal even playing? 40 runs in 2 innings? Out to 2 completely incomprehensible shots in this Test? He didn;t even have any footwork on this last dismissal.

So if we need to bring Aftab back, dropping Nafis instead of Alok is a fine option. As long as Alok scores 23 in the second innings, BC board members should not complain if he is not dropped, right?

Bangladesh v Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Chittagong, 3rd day

Hossain restricts Sri Lanka to 338

The Bulletin by Charlie Austin

March 2, 2006

Lunch Bangladesh 319 and 28 for 0 (Omar 15*, Iqbal 5*) lead Sri Lanka 338 (Maharoof 72, Sangakkara 69, Samaraweera 58, Hossain 4-83) by 9 runs
Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details
How they were out

Sri Lanka were unable to eke out a substantial lead as Shahadat Hossain clawed Bangladesh right back into the game, mopping up the tail with a succession of bumpers that were softly swatted to midwicket. Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 338 and Bangladesh swiftly rubbed out the slim deficit, reaching lunch on 28 without loss.

Sri Lanka's problems began with a tortoise-like start to the day. With Thilan Samaraweera (58) and Malinga Bandara (19 not out) determined to play themselves in carefully, the innings stagnated during the first 20 minutes, allowing the Bangladesh bowlers to settle in. Eventually, Samaraweera eyed a scoring opportunity but his execution was poor as he miscued a hook to midwicket. He, though, will still be counting himself unlucky as Javed Omar leaped acrobatically to claim a wonderful diving catch.

Samaraweera's fall exposed Sri Lanka's weak tail and Hossain exploited their obvious discomfort against short bowling. Dilhara Fernando ducked first ball into a lifter, a painful hit that cut open his ear and prompted an early appearance of Tommy Simsek, Sri Lanka's physio, and then, rather meekly, he pulled straight into the hands of Shariar Nafees at midwicket.

Muttiah Muralitharan walked to the crease with a determined glare. To almost universal amazement he also buckled down for a sensible start, neatly glancing his first ball to the boundary and then getting right behind the ball. But when tempted with some half-trackers, he couldn't control himself any longer, backing away and slogging a catch to midwicket, a chance that was well taken running backwards by Nafees.

Bandara, meanwhile, had been batting sensibly at the other end, displaying a solid technique and unravelling a couple of elegant off-side strokes. However, he was left stranded as Lasith Malinga ran himself out first ball.

Malinga, fired-up after the embarrassment of his run-out, pounded in before the break, coming within millimetres of claiming one lbw with a toecrusher and also beating the bat on several occasions. However, Sri Lanka, who too threw the ball early to their spinners, were unable to break through before lunch.

How they were out

Sri Lanka

Thilan Samaraweera c Omar b Hossain 58 (316 for 7)
Top-ended hook to midwicket

Dilhara Fernando c Nafees b Hossain 5 (380 for 8)
Top-edged pull to midwicket

Muttiah Muralitharan c Nafees b Hossain (338 for 9)
Spiralling catch off a flayed leg-side swat

Lasith Malinga run out 0 (338 for 10)
Messy mix-up after push into covers

because bashar cant depend on kapalis batting. he did ok in odi with the ball but didnt justify his inclusion in the team. i still think al shariar should have gotten his place.

158 against india was the best innins i have seen from any bangladeshi batsman. he was perfect in that innins. ashraful is the most talented and he is improving. he has been consistant in this series. 2 half century back to back and century. first odi and this innins he failed but we cant expect him to score century in every innins. if it wasnt for ashraful bangladesh would have been all out under 200 runs.

To me this the most competitive test match we ever played...

I concur.

I havent' seen too many Bangladesh test innings but they surely weren't upto par. Now that i've bet on lankans, and watching the match, I must say Bangladesh have given Lanka (and me) a run for their money...

If Bangladesh wins, I'll be very happy, but if SL wins then I'll be gladder :E

As an optimist, I consider this a win-win situation for me (mind you, i'm an indian)...

Let's have a competitive chase. Go Lanka go. Go :flag: go...

May the best team win.

From the sounds of it seems like Shariar Nafees' wicket was a given away. Can anyone confirm?[bangla]

Rafiq has a test century. So he has a point to prove now. And Alok may have just been gifted a chance for redemption.

I'm a big fan of Alok but against spin he is very very average( what I've seen of him)!

NO doubt abt that we are crazy..no other country is as lucky as our team to have such a strong fan support as ours...still they are drowning there............i still hope they can bat through out the day today...

i still remember the days when we would have given an arm to see the bangladesh team bat for more than 50 overs or score over 200 runs in both innings of a test match.

This is pathetic.

Our cricketers can't play good and constant cricket for more than once on a constant basis.

First innings good batting and bowling. Second innings they can't even score 200? Bangladesh cricketers seriously need to think about this

I can't understand why they had kapali in the team the guy is just not test caliber.

Mushfiq would have made a bigger contribution than kapali.
