View Full Version : Alok had a world record - Bashar's dilemma

Alok gave up 6 runs in each innings.

This must be the first time a player picked mainly for his bowling gave up single digit runs in both innings.

Saracasm aside, did Bashar have a problem with Alok's selection that caused this?

It is my question, too. Why was Alok not bowled?

Thats a very valid question. To my opinion, the way Enamul was getting turn, Alok shouldve been used. It seems like, Bashar never wants to have Alok bowl. He is one of the selectors and the team Captain(?); if Alok was not bowling,,,, what was the point of including him in the team? Might as well just include Raj.

Has anyone heard whether the question was raised by any of the journalists during the post match session? Disgraceful if it was'nt.:)

Oh comon.............. leave this alok guy alone. He is just not of any class to play at this level. i am also getting wary of Bahsar............. he is a poor captain indeed.....

alok didn't get any turn... when he came into bowl... i noticed he was bowling quite flat...... very little turn or no turn at all..... I will be really surprised if he plays the second test....

Oh comon!! What's wrong with Alok? In our BD who is of any class anyway?

I was a Bashar supporter but both of his captaincy and batting is going down gradually.

Alok only bowled three over and you already made the judgment? You need to be in the selection committe of BD team.

Dude I am quite sure you didn't see the game. If you had seen the game, you could also see he wasn't getting much turn. Doesn't matter whether he bowled three overs or thirty... where enam got vicious turn for his very first over... you don't have to be a selector to see these basic things...

Its neither Alok's, nor Bashar's fault that he didn't get to bowl. It is Faruk's fault that he selected Alok for no good reason.

Alok out, AFtab should be in for the 2nd test. :duh:

Alok should be replaced with Mushfiqur.. we need extra juice in our batting which sucks badly

It is also Bashar's fault that he did not bowl Alok for longer than he did. If he is your 5th bowler you should have let him bowl more, otherwise, he is not your 5th bowler and in that case you should not have selected him. And for that also, Bashar is partly responsible, because he is part of the selection team.

The bottom line is that our bowling stock is very thin. Except for Mashrafee, who else deserves a chance that is not currently playing?

Did any of the journalists ask (the Coach, the Captain, and the selection committee) this question ? If not, what are they getting paid for ?

The victims here are Kapali, BD Fans, and BD cricket. This wasn't in Kapali's hands and he shouldn't have been picked for this match in the first place. Since he was picked, it only made 'comon sense' that we gave him a fair shot. 3 overs in a test match is unacceptable. Even top players sometimes take 1/2 overs to get in the rhythm, so having one bad over is not excuse. If we were to judge a player based on one over, we should start retiring Bashar after 1/2 overs of batting in 30-50% of his matches (IF he manages to last that long) or allow him to captain the side for 2 overs before giving it to someone with some guts and leadership skills.

BD fans are obviously the biggest victim of Bashar's captaincy and the teams struggle to find consistency.

Alok does boiwl flat and being a wicket-taking bowl i think he can put pressure on teams' run scoring ability. He was taken mainly for his batting prowess even though technically he was taken as a bowler. But as we can see, he failed miserably with the bat, and did not really show much consistency. Even his innings in the 2nd ODI cannot be called a chanceless innings.
He may be talented but carries awful shot selections, especially driving on the up- he hits the ball in the air, mainly becoz he's a "stylish" pre-dominantly back foot player.

not the first time ( a few games ago) andy symonds was picked as a bowling allrounder (hardly bowled) didn't bowl second innings and only bolwed 3-5 overs in the first and did nothing with the bat.

This was in a test as well :D

It is Bashar's vague message to Faruk & co. that he is the ultimate one to choose who will bowl in the field or not. I guess he wanted Aftab or some other options, not Alok in the 1st test. That's why he left Alok unused! I know my speculation sucks too, as Bashar lacks the gut to oppose faruk's decision! Anyway, if he has done to oppose Alok's inclusion..........my Lal salam for him. cheerio!!:joy:

You must be aware that you are comparing Symond to Alok, and/or Aus with BD.

Symond is the main fixture along with ponting and gilly in Aus ODI team. He has proven himself time and again in domestic cricket that he can play the longer version of the game as well. Alok is an experiment by Farooq in BD ODI team.

Unless you are sensational bowler, to be included in the Aus test team, the age (experience) requirement is 25+. For BD all you have to do is get to Farooq. There is no requirements.

Australia can afford to experiment against SL/NZ etc. But Bd can not .... well you get the picture.

he got out due to bad decisions by the ump in both innings.

I think you are talking from sheer speculation. Alok is one of the most technically sound players in the team. He is very unlucky at times to get out because of bad umpiring decisions.

it is apparent that Basher has a deep abhorrence of Alok. I consider Bashar to be the last remaining player from a generation that can be categorized as S***. I can't wait until he retires so a more fresher blood from the younger generations takes over (I won't even mind ASh to lead in 4-5 years). But for now, I won't want to sack him because doing so will not be beneficial for our team.

Bashar just realized few hours ago that to do well in a test match the team needs to do well in both innings. The team needs to bat and bowl well in both innings to have control of the match. Amazingly Faruk also figured tha same out! Well done guys. Brilliant!!!!

http://www.prothom-alo.net/v1/newhtmlnews1/category.php?CategoryID=9&Date=2006-03-07

So my question is, if this takes 5 years, how many years it will take for him to realize that to lenthen an inning a batsman must start taking singles and rotate strikes? Not play unnecessary risky shots and play with straight bat? Both extra defensive and ultra offensive are bad?

Haire Bashar, tui kobe boro hobi? Ei buddhi niya tui kemne captain hoili?

I really feel bad for Alok.Getting a place in to the team after that long and then loosing it this early.(Looks like he will be dropped from 2nd test)

Seems to me, this is a unique case of "Easy come easy Go "

Alok should have bowled more as bowled really well in ODIs. Specially batsman gets confused if they should hit 4 or 6 off Alok and gets out.....
