No Rokon

Not bad. They have given chances to younger players. But what happened to Shamsur Rahman?

Why Tapash? What prospect does he have with the team in the presence of Shahadat, Rasel, Mashrafe?

Its really an injustice to Rokon. He has done enough to get a recall in the national tem but the selectors are ignoring heam even in the A Team.

This is crap

Tushar to lead Bangladesh A
Sports Reporter

National selectors once again ignored former national cap Al Shahriar's tremendous batting form when they announced a 13-member Bangladesh A team for the first Test of the coming home series against Sri Lanka A.

Shahriar was the highest run-getter among the local players in the Premier Cricket League and have scored 492 runs including one century and four half-centuries for Dhaka in the first-class competition. He was even discussed for the Tigers' home one-day series against Kenya but it was unfortunate for him not to be even included for the A team.

The second-string Sri Lankan side will arrive in Dhaka on March 20 to play two Tests (four-day) and three one-dayers.

Tushar Imran has been named captain of the home side that included other Test caps in Nafees Iqbal, Tapash Baisya, Enamul Haque Jr, Nazmul Hossain and Mushfiqur Rahim.

The first Test will be held in Dhaka from March 23 while the second Test at Rajshahi from March 29-April 1. The three one-dayers will be held in Bogra (April 4) and Khulna (April 6, 8).

All the 13 cricketers have been asked to take part for the respective divisions in the ninth-round National League matches. They have been requested to report to team coordinator Sharif Mahmud Palash at the Sonargaon Hotel on March 20 at 8pm.

SQUAD

Taposh is still our 4th pacer. With our injury history he's usually 2nd or 3rd.

They also left out the two best bowlers of the league - "Shanto" and "Arafat". Ehsanul,Rokon, Hannan. I guess they didn't want old folks in the team. Taposh must be the oldest guy. Average age below 20. Isn't it?

No Golam Rahman, no Shamsur? No Tamim?

Did Sadi really predict this team?

I guess the pain is too deep with Al - Shahriar and the selectors. This should motivate him more. :) What's total score of Nazmus Sadat in the league? Did he score 2 centuries and couple of 90s?

Yes it is. If a player is out from national team for some reason, what is the way for him to get back? My impression was that a consistent performance in the domestic league is the only way. Looks like its not. পা চাটা-চাটির ব্যাপারটা মনে হয় এখনো আমাদের ছেড়ে যায়নি।

In that case, he is an insider.

This was not a team anyone could have predicted without inside knowledge. Too many sure players were left out and too many wild cards came in. Shhhhhhhhhhhhh

Where is that pain coming from? Who is Faruk representing? Almost everyone in this foram agree that Rokon deserves a chance at least in the A-team? Doesn't this generalize to all Bangladeshi fans? Wait, excluding the selectors. They are not perhaps Bangladesh Fan.

Close but not quite.... I am actually happy with this team and good to see rokon is not there.... I mean tough luck but hey.... if the selectors are not planning to give him another chance in the national team, why take a spot in A team.... Good to see Sakib in there.... eventhough I haven't heard anything about him in a while.... he didn't play in any NCL game... I wonder why.... Also good to see selectors keeping an eye on Nazmus Sadat and Shafaq Al Zabir

You can call it whatever you want.... but to me, if selectors are not looking to pick someone in future, you wouldn't see him playing for A team... whatever the reason might be behind the decision... I don't want to get into rokon controversy again but A team tour is quite rare to us and we should utilize these tour to the fullest and give as many opportunities as we can to the new players who are coming up and might play for national team in near future....

pretty good selection. i completely agree with the other forum members regarding the omission of especially rokon and ehsanul. the sole criteria for selection in the A team should be A team performance. i want to know what faruk and co. has to say about leaving the two highest run scorers in the league out.

i am glad to see riyad and farhad reza in the team. they seem to be the kind of utility players we are looking for in the ODIs. also thought Shanto's league performances deserved a callup.

also good to see U-19 stars in the team. big things are expected from the trio and it will be interesting to see how they make this transition.

one other person, I will keep a close eye on would be shafaq. has been really impressive in the league so far. tall paceman bowls at brisk pace. lets see if he measures up competing in international cricket.

i dont see a point in including rokon.if the selectors want to pick him,he should join the national side directly.he does not have to climb the ladder from the beginning.he has enough exposure to handle the pressure of playing international cricket.why he is not in the odi side is another issue.but to me,picking him in the A team is just a waste of a spot that can be used to give exposure to a new player.ehsanul and sharif were better candidates for the A side.although, they have international caps, they were out of the national side without having enough chances.

One thing for sure- none of us predicted Enamul Jr in the A-team. A good move by the selectors though, he needs some good match practice before the Australia series.

What is the point of selecting Nadif? Don't we already have too many SLA's in contention? It should have been Yasin Arafat the offie in his place.

Odbhut jukti! Why the selectors are not looking to pick a player(read Rokon) in future even if he keeps on performing good in domestic cricket? Do selectors sign up an agreement for that matter? If so, why are they such stubborn to act towards a perticular player? Rokon ki selector der jaat-shotru? I mean I can't swallow the logic of the selectors being determined not to select someone in future even in A-team if he performs good in domestic level.

in that case, why not go with 4 or 5 spinners? what prospect does any pacer have against our trio? rasel, say what the hell you want about his pace (or lack thereof) has mesmerizing swing and good control. mashrafee doesn't even need to be talked about and rajib has agression, pace, and 'umph.'

nazmul and tapash should be in the a team because we are just one injury away from having them in the test squad.

i really would like to see something good from shafaq. lets hope he is the 4th pacer to come out.

btw, how fast is shafaq?

As fast as Nazmul or Rasel. But he has the height advantage that helps him to extract more bounce from the pitch.

I understand your point..... however I don't think Rokon will play for national team again..... we are argue for or against it but thats the fact..... why? He was given too many opportunities, his attitude doesn't change, he still plays carefree cricket and list can go on..... I know you can say he is scoring runs.... but scoring runs in domestic cricket and international cricket is two different things.... look at faisal.... maybe he should get a call-up as well then

Rokon has been in similar situations before... the only criteria for him to earn a recall would to perform consistently for a couple of seasons.

The selection has a lot of faults. The major being the exclusion of Al shahariar after being the most prolific runscorer in the recent NCL. I really think that the selectors have something against this guy. And he isn't even that old to be not considered for the future team as the reason given.

On top of that, I think Rajin saleh should have been included in the team, since he has done nothing for the national team, and the team management feels that he is out of form, he should be given a chance to prove his worth at the A team level atleast.

I don't really know what enamul is doing there. This is bizzare to me. I think he has been given a lot of chances and has shown what kind of performer he is. I don't think there is any more need to show, for better or worst.

And one more thing, i totally diagree with Tushar's selection as a captain. Eventhough there is no one older than him in the team, except probably taposh, I am sure Rahim would have done the job better. Don't get me wrong here, I am against him being included in the national team for sure but let's not forget he has been the captain for the u-19 guyz, and since he has led them to such success I am sure if he was the captain of the bunch where most of them are picked straight from the u-19 team, the team will perform better and give him some kind of confidence boost.

Clearly, to me it seems, the selection committee has a lot of love for this u-19 team of ours. The NCL doesn't matter much. I could understand it at one point of time when one generation (akram, nannu, bulbul) retired. But unfortunately that was about 3 to 4 years back.

Some quick thoughts:

I am more bummed about Ehsanul's exclusion than Rokon. As I have mentioned in a previous thread, Rokon is a slogger extraordinair who is capable of only playing shots from the git go. We already have someone better than him for that role - Aftab.

Ehsanul on the other hand could very well be the answer to our ODI #3 position and he bowls handy offcutters and leg cutters too. He should be in and not Sakib - Sakib didn't do much with the bat at U-19 WC and needs to prove himself some more in NL and Premiere League

Enam Jr is young and right now he needs as much bowling against different batsmen as he can get to quickly mature him up. He would not have gotten a single game against the Kenyans - all ODIs. So it makes sense to keep him in match practice against the aussies.

Tapash, Shafaq and Nazmul - I agree with those who have pointed out that we are one injury away from needing a pacer and these three are the logical replacements. Shanto's days are gone.

I agree with those who say Yasin should have picked ahead of Nadif just for seasoning our one promising offie.

can u say any name of other country who are not giving value to their NCL. who are only focusing on only u-19 except us. Then the best way would be find some guy..teach cricket and throw them to the int. level....thats the way ur selectors are doing now....some day's ago i was against of rokon..now he has proved himself..he should get a chance now..

i still think we could've given the rokon bloke another chance; however, na hoile nai.

but i don't get why ehsan was left out. this is ridiculous. the guy definitely deserves a spot.

otherwise, the team doesn't look like a bad one. there are some names that i would have preferred to find in that list, but an ok team nonetheless.

Selectors could have also dropped one of the fast bowling allrounders, Mahmudullah or Reza, to make space for Ehsanul. Mahmudullah, a batsman who bowls medium pace, seems to be more of an one day player anyway.

About Nazmul, I hope the Lankan team does not have an attacking top order left hand bat.

I am surprised with Tushar Imran's inlcusion, even more surprised with his role as a captain in the side. Nazmus Sadat is being recognized for his runs in the domestic competiton. Rokon should have got the nod as he has also scored a ton of runs. I think the selectors will no longer bother with players who were products of early 2000 generation who has played already for Bangladesh, mainly batsmen: Rokon, Sanwar, Biddut etc, no matter how much they score. Tough one. I don't think they are particularly fond of Rokon anyway. Mehrab and Sakib are included with an eye on the world cup!

Looks like a really good team. It will be a well contested series.

Both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh need a lot of cricket at 'A team', development / high performance sqaud and junior levels. It is good to see that the two countries have been working very closely in this respect. Sri Lanka has played Bangladesh at the following levels, in very recent times:

- Under 17
- Under 19
- Development / high performance
- Senior (two tours within 06 months )

Sri Lanka A also played South Africa A and New Zealand A in extended tours recently.

Jehan Mubarak might not visit Bangladesh after all, as the captain of the Sri Lanka A team.

Jayasuriya is injured, along with Vaas and Ruchira Perera and the trio will miss the series with Pakistan this month. So Mubarak (of all people) will fill the gap created by Jayasuriya, pretty much like an elephant being replaced by an ant !

why SN not in A team. His performance deserves a place in A team. his position cemented in National team because he is cousin of Faruq. He needs more practice than NI. Unfortunately NI has to take exam in A team while SN position is secure. I m losing faith with Faruq. I am not a fan of Rokon. But I think this guy deserve a chance. However I feel he would not get a chance until Faruq is there. Faruq has the grudge againest Rokon for disposing his place.

 There is nothing to get so excited, the team announced is for only the 1st four day match, and it can change for the second match and so on. The first four day match will be on 23-26 Mar, during when SN will be occupied in ODI's against Kenya.

why is the team for one match? The A-team is a transitional
team and every member of the team must be extremely jittery about securing his position
This is unnecessary pressure. just imagine your future dependng on a match, specially when the
game is cricket? i think this forum should inform the selectors requesting them to piss properly, otherwise
they will cease being selectors and they have only once chance. even in the peace of their own loo's
I think they might even falter. just imagine sending a young team to perform in front of a large crowd
against a formidable opponent, knowing that a single stumble means being replaced. our selectors
may be former cricketeers but as far as fostering talent, they have a lot to learn

Gimme a break, pls!

One. 6 100s and 16 50s in 41 matches with average of 37+ - if thats not impressive (in BD respect), then find me some more impressive records!
Two. We are demanding Ehsan's inclusion in A team (not in the national level) based on his current form in the national league.
Three. I respect your evaluation from your personal observation, but again, what do you expect from a player - runs or grammar? When I was in school, I used to hear "He is good at Math, but always does poorly in the test". I don't want these people in my team.
Four. Ehsan's poor average in 6 ODIs is from 6 ODIs he played during 'Ice Age' - the time when 80% Bangladesh players had the same average.

I thought NI is the nephew of Akram khan and thus related to Faruk. SN is playing against Kenya. So unfortunately he cant play against kenya and Srilanka A at the same time.
