Here are a couple of simple chess puzzles. Lets see who gets it first!

* Puzzle-1
1. g4, e6; 2. f4?? (What's black's best next move?)

* Puzzle-2
1. e4, e5; 2. Nf3, d6; 3. Bc4, Bg4; 4. Nc3, a6; 5. Nf3xe5, Bg4xd1??; 6. (White mates in 2)

Ok, lot of views but no reply :). I'll give answer to #2 first and see if anyone attempts #1 (it's mate in one by the way!).

* Puzzle-2:
1. e4, e4; 2. Nf3, d6; 3. Bc4, Bg4; 4. Nc3, a6; 5. Nf3xe5, Bg4xd1; 6. Bc4xf7+, Ke7; 7. Nd5++, 1-0;

Ok. here are the solutions. untitled got it right for the first one! (although need to mention the piece to move).

The first one is an entire game finished in just 2 moves (Black wins). Second one is a classic example of Queen sacrifice to force checkmate (White wins).

* Puzzle-1:
1. g4, e6; 2. f4, Qh4++;

* Puzzle-2:
1. e4, e5; 2. Nf3, d6; 3. Bc4, Bg4; 4. Nc3, a6; 5. Nf3xe5, Bg4xd1; 6. Bc4xf7+, Ke7; 7. Nd5++,

You could have waited a little longer.

The first one is called a "Fool's Mate" for obvious reasons. The 2nd one has a name too. I can't recall it at this very moment, but I have played this sequence myself in OTB games.

By the way, I think it's best if you post images of the puzzle positions on a 2D board. Not many people can construct the position using the algebraic notations only.

the visual really helps. hard to figure out in the head. I guess many of us got the first one right. Was too late.
