The BD lineup...

Surprisingly, Masri and Rafiq is not in the team.

This is suppossed to be a practice opportunity, yet, we decide to bowl instead of batting practice, despite winning the toss.

June 26, 2003, 07:11 PM

2 quick wickets by Taposh.

Awesome start.

June 26, 2003, 07:15 PM
My god.

3rd wicket for Tapash.

Dev must have taught him something.

Very impressive start.

June 26, 2003, 07:34 PM
Dav apparently found no fault with tapash, and he is the fittest of bowlers.

June 26, 2003, 08:57 PM
Now all they need is my friend Leeca
None of the others can bat.......i mean c'mon Hauri's at 6......i wonder why my mate Nick "Spud" Kruger isn't playing

Bowlingwise i would watch out for McKenzie, Hauritz, Hopes and even Leeca

Nash- Lives nearby to me, played for Qld for a couple of seasons......scored a few first-class hundreds....great player

Payne- Heard little things about him in tour matcheslike this. Brilliant 18-19 yr old. Played a couple of games for Qld late last year

Leeca- Played about 6 seasons for QLD....first couple of years couldn't get more than 30.....was scoring hundreds and captaining Valleys to the South East Qld Championship.....last year scored a couple of hundreds for Qld and scored double-centuries in tour matches against South Africa and England.....complemented me on my technique :D

Nye-never heard of him

Hopes- played a couple of seasons for Qld good medium pace bowler.....can get runs on the board quickly.....mainly used for one-dayers

Hauritz- played half-a-dozen ODI's for Australia....i personally would have picked him for the WC ahead of Hogg

Hartley- who?

MacKenzie- playeda couple of Pura Cup games for Qld as a fast bowler

Rest of them i've never heard of

June 26, 2003, 09:45 PM
thanks for the run down on the players, H-fan: which one is Leeca?

Nice to see tapash and all the pacers applying themselves. sanwar, kapali and mahmud aren't doing much, however, but at least 10/3 and 110/4 at lunch were a couple of things we can cheer about

June 26, 2003, 09:57 PM
this dude hauritz is on 0 after after 31 balls, hope he doesn't get a century at the end of the day, his partner might.

June 26, 2003, 10:03 PM
He's got a duck off 32 balls

June 26, 2003, 10:03 PM
Leeca is Lee Carseldine

June 26, 2003, 10:52 PM

June 26, 2003, 10:56 PM

After a long long time, it feels good to see BD play.

June 26, 2003, 10:58 PM
I am dreaming!!!

June 26, 2003, 11:20 PM
over 68.3 192/9.........don't let them to pass 200. Grab'em.

June 26, 2003, 11:31 PM
201..khel khotom...Now to see the Batrisma...

June 26, 2003, 11:33 PM
Great performence. I am happy. Everyone except Kapali got wickets.

Lets hope batting will be even better. about 400 korte parle, we might even win this one.

So far so good.

June 26, 2003, 11:37 PM
That team had some great batsmen

And the bowlings not mucg to speak about

They should get 1st innings lead

I wonder how DOORBIN's enjoying it

June 26, 2003, 11:42 PM
Don't want to sound negative, but I think we shouldn't set our batting that high into the 400. For now 300 or around will do it for me.

These guys needs all the confidence that they can get from this game. They should bat 3/4 sessions straight.

June 26, 2003, 11:49 PM
1 run off 0 balls.....good start

June 26, 2003, 11:53 PM
Nice to see a good performance against Queensland. Also nice to see that the BD players are actually thinking that they can win.

I think Queensland are a strong team as the match is a 4-dayer and not a 3-dayer.

All i can say is - GO BANGLADESH, WIN THIS ONE !!!

Bowling Queensland out for 201, Hope BD hit atleast 250.

June 27, 2003, 12:38 AM
We need to think more in line with Whatmore. I don't think we should think about scoring 400 or 300 or whatever. Lets look for a some individual improvements. This is a practice game and our players have to try out in the middle the stuff that Whatmore has taught them. It might not work at first, but that doesn't matter. I am hoping that the batsmen will go out there and try really hard not to make the mistakes that they are known for making.

As for the bowling, good performance by BD. That is how it should be when Test sides play local XIs. If we can draw this match, I'll be extremely happy.

June 27, 2003, 12:50 AM
we are struggling at 27/2 as expected... we will do VERY well not to lose this 4 day match. there will probably be a result especially if we don't bat well in the first innings. about scoring 300-400, wow, when is the last time Bangladesh did that, there's no way we should expect that here.

June 27, 2003, 12:57 AM
This is a three day game isn't it?

June 27, 2003, 01:01 AM
scorecard says 4 day match

June 27, 2003, 01:22 AM
has anyone noticed 12 men are being used in this match - what is the deal with that? I was wondering how bangladesh's batting was so stacked (at least on paper) and realized we have an extra batsman (so one of the bowlers won't bat or what?). It's 57/3 and there are several batsmen to go - this is very strange.

One thing Whatmore can analyze is the pulled shots. Ashraful and Bashar kept pulling 4s and 6s until Bashar pulled one too many. Ashraful said something in the papers about not pulling or playing shots until he got to 25. Right now he has the quiet Al-Shahriar Rokon on the other end, these two will probably go in a blaze of glory....

June 27, 2003, 01:31 AM
It's not Queensland.....if it were Queensland, Bangladesh would be 6/35

This is the Queensland Acadamy.....with a few Queensland batsman and Acadamy bowling so don't claim that you're beating Queensland

June 27, 2003, 11:04 AM
Oh James man don't make this big fun of our team.

June 27, 2003, 11:32 AM
James, that cant be. If BD have to struggle 6/35 against Queensland, then imagine against Australia ...10/20?

We both know that wont happen.

June 27, 2003, 01:00 PM
Raana Bhai!

We are playing Aussies in Aussieland!!!! Anything can happen...especially with our brittle batting and their fearsome and lethal bowling attack. Of course, hopefully not 20 all out, which will probably cost us all our away tours immediately.

June 27, 2003, 02:08 PM
when does the match start...I mean what time...east coast..?!?

June 27, 2003, 02:34 PM
It starts at 19:45 (7:45 pm) EST. That is 23:45 GMT.

June 27, 2003, 07:01 PM
The match has been delayed 15 minutes to dry the outfield from heavy overnight dew.

The dew is a bad news for us. This will favor the bowlers untill it dries up. Lets hope, we can defend a batting collaps.

53.3 Nash to Alok Kapali, FOUR, short and drop kicked over the midwicket infield

drop kicked

What is drop kick? Is that on the half volley? Probably the comm guy is more into soccer!

June 27, 2003, 09:12 PM
a first innings lead. No matter how slender that is....even one run is fine with me...probably this is the only opportunity BD is gonna get in the whole to grab the honors of first innings!

160/6 Lunch time score....

Not bad but could have been better..ah well!!

June 27, 2003, 10:09 PM
Thanks to Kapali and Pilot, we are taking the lead.

June 27, 2003, 10:21 PM
well at least we are tied, you got your wish.

seems like the problems have been narrowed down to just a couple of things in this game - pull shots and sujon's place on the test team. off all the sub-10 innings we had, his one was most annoying.

June 27, 2003, 10:28 PM
201/9 declared????? i guess they are satisfied with a 2 run lead.

June 27, 2003, 10:29 PM
LOL...y did we declare after a 2 run lead?????

Maybe we're being good sports since we're playin 12 players with an extra batsman. But it was funny nevertheless. We finally got a lead for once!!!!!!

June 28, 2003, 12:53 AM
It was a good idea to declare because this is a three day game and we are trying to maximise practice. No point wasting precious time giving Monju batting practice. Having 12 players has nothing to do with it. They have12 players as well. Anyway, I think it was a smart move.

June 28, 2003, 08:01 AM
I would have thought the same like u when BD would have toured India. Even I would have said - "India will bowl out BD for less than 50".

I dont think u should make so much fun of BD. BD 6/35 against Queensland - tell me are Queensland better than Aus. I am sure u have an Indian connection.

June 28, 2003, 06:52 PM

Lets see if we can stun the world...

June 28, 2003, 07:20 PM
Anwar picked up the rest 2.

Now BD needs 175. Lets hope we dont get the famous BD batting collaps.

We can do this.

June 28, 2003, 07:35 PM
Golla abaro golla marlo.

BD might actually manage to lose this one.

Somethings never change.

June 28, 2003, 08:11 PM
That's a pair.....he really is a Golla

June 28, 2003, 08:49 PM
Just when I was feeling relaxed that Habibul is back, he is out.

June 28, 2003, 09:12 PM
just checked out the poll results so far...the predictions are overwhelmingly positive :)

lets see if our team proves the fans right...

current status....132 runs needed with 8 wickets in hand and over 60 overs to play

June 28, 2003, 09:49 PM
Golla out for 0
Sumon out
Ashraful out - RUN OUT
Rokon out - Caught & Bowled

Hannan Sarkar is batting, Kapali, Sanwar, Pilot - the 3 specialist batsman remaining (we can all assume Pilot a specialist batter now).

It seems that the Queens Academy is still a strong side for Bangladesh.

June 28, 2003, 09:51 PM
Hannan the idiot is still in the crease and that just means more misery for us I am afraid. After Sumon we needed someone stable like Ash and then a partner like Kapali to build something. This idiot always jsut hits a few knocks and then gets out or jsut hangs by a thread till he falls off his own stupidity. never settles or let anyone else settle. I'm just so pi**ed at this guy now, so many times he let BD down. I can take Golla's gollami, he plays sensibly and has proven comebacks. But nothing short of a 30+ from Hannan should keep him in the next game. This situation now has all the signs of a familiar meltdown. I will be surprised if we can even make it close.

June 28, 2003, 10:49 PM
We have done the impossible, again.

All hands, brace for impact.

A big humiliation coming up.

June 28, 2003, 11:03 PM
yeah I saw that poll on the home page this morning and decided not to vote yes if that counts for anything.

going just by crickinfo commentary, this looks like an ugly innings both ways - we have been swiping, edging, and mistiming as well as running poorly between the wickets. they have been dropping all sorts of catches. wonder if it is nerves - must be on our side as they can't remember the last time they won a match.

i think kapali should be man of the match if we win, although had he stuck around for a bit more it would have been more certain.

there's too many overs to panic, they just have to stay at the crease to win this match.

June 28, 2003, 11:22 PM
un-freakin(excuse me)-believable

Queensland Academy of Sport Invitation 201 & 176
Bangladeshis 203/9d & 111/7 (54.0/84 ov)

How can you mess this up ?

June 28, 2003, 11:29 PM
maybe it comes from not wining enough to know how to win. the boys played horribly throughtout the innings if the text commentary is to be believed. only kapali and maybe mashud has looked composed.

i think sanwar was the last straw (why was he frustrated, he had only faced 26 balls). now we enter the familiar terrain of being statistically within reach of a good performance (in this case a victory) but knowing the team will fall short as usual. it will be truly incredible if they can still win this match despite the current adversity - then we will really know whatmore has been a positive influence. otherwise it's same old...

June 29, 2003, 12:16 AM
Bangladesh is 8 down now - Sujon out.

Pilot and Tapash are on the crease.

June 29, 2003, 01:01 AM
Even though we lost I have to say this was one of the most exciting match I saw BD play. At 98/6 I thought it was practically over. But when we got to 138/8 and pilot was hitting boundaries it got pretty exciting. Other than Sanwar needlessly going for big shot, they all tried. I still think it could be a very different story with us winning by 3/4 wickets if Hannan did not make Ash run out. After Bashar we just needed two stable partnerships. We got one with Kapali-Hannan for 45. Ash could easily fill out the other and we only lost by 29 runs in the end. Since this was a practice match I feel this has been a good learning lesson. Of course the next practice matches will be a better benchmark to see if we improved. But I liked how the lower order just didnt give up.

June 29, 2003, 01:30 AM
Same'ol same'ol

As usual. we lost. So whats new? This probably was the one match we had any chance of winning. Rest of the matches in the tour are just out of our reach. We can't even beat an invitation xi! Oh, God please help us.

On another note, cricinfo seems to be extra sympathetic towards us. Heading reads, "Bangladesh lost narrowly..." Thats the most positive thing I saw from (wisden) cricinfo in a long time. Hope it stays like that.

I haven't watched the game - just like none of you have but this is from the cricinfo commentator himself.

He said that it was Ashraful's own fault that he was run out. It could have been easy two... (Nascer can confirm that :))

And as most of you have noticed, the running between wickets were awful! I am just wondering -what might have been the problem!

Perhaps it's Dave's overdoing of this "individual performance" thing! He has to set the message right! The players might be getting the wrong signal here!

June 29, 2003, 01:44 PM
Next match is against the KIDS of CBCA - if we can't beat them, shame on the batsmen. Our batsmen let us down ... not a ig surprise though. If yu look back at the world cup - it was a same thing ... the bowlers did well to bowl Canada under 200 and could have had Kenya under 200 if the fielding and bowling rotation were good. We completely blew it with our batting. So, nothing has changed.

Let e just say that I will not hold this match against Dav- nor will I hold any ther match in this series against him because he is NOT god. Our bowlers are doing what they are supposed to ... it's our batsmen who failed and will keep on doing so unless they start listening to their head -- and not their heart. Their heart is simply not there.
