View Full Version : Attention: Forum upgrade and aftermath

The BC forums will go offline later today for about 2 hours. We are going to migrate from XMB to VBulletin. As BC grows exponentially, we do need to make this move to a more stable and robust forum software. We hope this move will eliminate the recent server outages and slow downs.
We were planning to make this move after we have had the opportunity of customizing the look and feel to reflect what you are all used to. However, we now feel this migration must be accelerated. Once the BC forum is back up using VBulletin, you will notice that the look and feel will be the default VBulletin one until we have had time to transform it into the BC look and feel.
Do note that once the migration is complete, you can log in with your usual user name and password.
Please bear with us and keep your hard hats on.
We WILL be back up before the game.

Admin,
The forum upgrade was excellent. Keep up the good work.
Concern: The banner looks out of place. Can we change the forum's blue feeling to a green feeling? That way the banner would match (closely) to the toolbars, reply bars, etc.? What do you think? You'll can test it between the two tests and decide or may be make a poll for feedback. :)

Try all three existing templates and let us know your thoughts. There's still work to be done so keep your hard hat on.
You can change templates quickly by going to the bottom and select from the drop down the template you wish to apply.

Zunaid bhai,
has to be "-- test 1".
But that needs following tweaking.
1. http://www.banglacricket.com/alochona/ get rid of the "BanglaCricket Discussion Forum." line from the forum header bar (no need, taking up unnecessary space).
2. Take away some power from "Nasif" (Rep: 999999) and "Ehsan" (Rep: 10000). their "9" and "0" hurts my eyes. May be instead of a green dot give them a gold or silver dot.
3. The quotes automatically change to italic. I did not like that.
4. Font size can go up a little.
5. To be continued. :) (I am thrilled to test out so many buttons, like having a new gizmo)

I'm curious to figure out what "Rep" and "Rep Power" is supposed to indicate. I have the vague idea about number of posts, or status as moderator, but for eg. what does my "rep power" of 1 and "rep" of 10 really signify?
I also have an issue with that panel. It takes up a lot of vertical space in the threads when some distinguished persons post messages.

Rep stands for Reputation - higher number means higher reputation. We hope to prepare some FAQ that addresses similar queries. Until then you may find the default FAQ helpful:

Hmm! Since all the borders are white, I was thinking of a white border or no border but a box effect (like the quick reply message box). Which ever looks better. :)
Also, the thread subscribing I don't get it. I have visited so many threads after the upgrade. Almost all the threads that has been opened in all the forums. Now I had to unsubscribe all of them to keep it at a low number. Just because I like it clean. Is this feature taking up memory? Why do we need this feature? slowing down the speed? Server being busy?

The whole upgrade has been pointless.
Apart from adding useless features, this upgrade has done almost nothing to increase usablilty.
The server remains busy around 50% time (doesn't matter whether it's match time or not). The situation was far better in the previous board.
Admins are keen enough to tinker with thread rating symbols if someone someone makes a request. But they have ignored my repeated requests of turning off the 10 char limitation.

Take it easy Spitty, I'm also a little frustrated by the 'server busy' issue. I think the server can't take load of vB's immense processing of the database, especially with all those new feature; it's a powerful software. I suggest hosting the DB on a seperate dedicated server, although it'll cost more, perhaps we should all donate.

No, the server has never been down after the forum upgrade. But we see "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later" countless times. It doesn't matter whether it's a match day or not, and time of the day doesn't have any impact either.

There was a thread on movies. That was an interesting thread about movies. But I could ot find it (I checked till 17 pages of forgot section, 50 thread is my limit)and even search failed to locate. Is it missing in action during upgradation?

Search indices may need to be rebuilt to include imported content. This is in process and as such the site may be slow.

Lost all my arguements. clicked the back button saw I was logged on. then came to support forum and posted a test post on Shafin's thread. working fine it seems. It happened to me also, because i turned the remember me button off.after i posted,it asked me to log on,but after logging on,i found that the post was not there, and it was a ling one, too. Then after surfing some time,i went back again to that thread for posting it again, and the previous post was there.Did you check that thread? It does not show in the thread after you log on,but after you get out and get in again at that thread.

At times when I try to reply to some old post (created before VB was installed) it gives me follwoing message. I know there wasn't any image there and i wasn't posting any image, so what I may be doing wrong? Even posting this message i am getting the same messsage with first line reading 5 images and having difficulty posting this.
You have included 8 images in your message. You are limited to using 4 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.
Images include use of smilies, the vB code [img] tag and HTML <"img"> tags. The use of these is all subject to them being enabled by the administrator.

Why can't we change the thread title ? I know Rubu once made a pun changing the title of a poll he created, but abuse of that option was rare.

Feeling lazy to open a thread for that.:)

Active member count is out of total members who have logged in last 90 days. After the Aus series it is dropping down (it will go up again during coming Zim series). The new members are less in amount to the members who aren't logging in thats why the active count is dropping slowly.
But its nothing to be worried about, it will go up when the event comes along :)
