View Full Version : Our weakness against Leg Spin Bowling

Leg spin is actually a really hard craft to learn, and as CB mentioned, one needs to have natural talent for this kind of bowling. Also, as wrist spin is something very hard to have good control over it, a leggie got to be more disciplined bowler than an offie is. So, I think we have better chances developing some offies (obviously right handed, for a change) from our domestic structure.

I believe that if we cannot win the ongoing test match versus Australia, we might see so brilliant a game in favor of Bangladesh for a long time, unless we improve our quality of leg spin bowling at domestic cricket.

Suppose we haven't scored such a huge 427 runs this test match, then McGill's 8 wickets alone could have hurt us a lot more than it did.

Just think, if our batsman, especially our lower order batsman had the capacity to read the leg spinners, on this occassion McGill a little more, then we might have been 427 for the loss of 6 wickets, give or take, and we could have won this test match quite convincingly.

But the fact is that WE ARE REALLY BAD AT PLAYING GOOD LEG SPIN BOWLING WITH ACCURACY HAS HURT US SO FAR IN TEST MATCH CRICKET.

So, to really improve our performance and our results in Test match cricket, we have to seriously think about redefining our domestic cricket and encourage age-group, and first class teams to introduce proper specialist leg spinners.

This is something that bothered me in the past. But the fact remains, you can't just go to supermarket and get a dozen legspinners on your mastercard. People need to be born with natural ability of wrist spinning. I think another factor that influences this is the lack of role models. Back in the 90s, left arm spinners were highly popular with the likes of Enamul Haque Moni, Rafiq, Mustadir Litu, Shoikot Hossain Plabon etc having success in the domestic leagues. I have nothing concrete to back this up, but I do think this is one reason we have been producing so many SLAs lately. Having quality SLAs is the next best thing to a legspinner. So we shouldn't exactly complain.
