Shahid Afridi has announced his `retirement' from Test cricket. In an announcement that caught most people in Pakistan by complete surprise, Afridi told a local TV channel that he was planning to concentrate only on ODI cricket to ready himself for the World Cup in 2007. But, in a typically Pakistani twist, Afridi said that he would reconsider his `retirement' from Tests after the World Cup.

I also heard in the grapevine that Ash is also thinking to retire from test and ODI cricket. The plan is on hold because he wants to play in the 2013 20/20 world cup and then he would confirm on the retirement plan.

Calling it a retirement is too dramatic. He could have said he is taking temporary leave from the test itinerary or something along the line of "I will be unavailable for the longer vresion of the game for the time being". Nonetheless, this isn't like Chacha. He did mention that it is temporary and he will consider returning to the test arena later. It's understandable that he wants to spend more time with his young children and family. I admire people who don't shun family responsibilities in spite of professional obligations.
