pathetic. we HAVE to get gileespie out by today - there'll be no excuse if we can't do that.

i just don't understand why bashar wouldn't attack when a wicket or two at the end of the day is so vital. can't the bowlers talk to him? i think these questions should be asked on press conferences.

AsifTheManRahman
April 16, 2006, 06:58 AM
a day of australian domination comes to an end. pathetic display both with the ball and the bat, in the end. well, i guess that's all that you can expect when you're playing the best in the world.

It's time for the think tank of BCB ( minus Farook-Athar Ali & Prince ) to think seriously about the team captain Bashar,he was OK until the the last game against Kenya but after that since the first test against Australia, Bangladesh team has now transformed in to a different type of team and definitely need a different captain to take them ahead who not only wins the toss but inspire and encourage and motivate the whole team and take bold decision and show some aggressiveness while fielding and show some patience while batting. I am not saying Bashar is a bad captain but feel that his time is over now and the team need a new captain to lead them from the front in world cup 2007.

Come on abit too harsh on poor basher. at present he is the best captain we have. amoung the senior's he is the only one. Khaled Mashud has tryed and failed, Javed is out of the question and Rafiq, well he is very happy and doing well where he is. Basher needs to carryon for another three or four years at least. Maybe than we might consider Rajin or Shariar nafis or even mashrafe. Now there's a thought.

I will stand to correct you that he was like this vs SL as well. And also sometimes vs Kenya. And vs England last summer. Although he can be excused vs England, It really frustrates me every time with his fielding and leading attitude.

April 16, 2006, 06:57 PM
and who are we gonna replace bashar with? despite some failures he is still the leading batsman of our country. and bashar knows that very well. to be a captain of the team one must be the best and consistant performer in the team who can lead by example such R. Dravid for india or A. Flintoff for england or R. Ponting for australia. so, do we have a batsman at the moment who scores more than 35 on average ?

BD tdhola (police) has done it again! And the DC practiced boxing on the journalists. SHAME on them. But the journalists are also not cooperative but inciting. This has obviously affected emotionally attached BD team. Not the aussies. Hope BD will play better today.

Dark clouds hovering over the ground. Lets hope it causes problems to Aus.

Wasim Akram, Sunny G, and Jeff Thompson all say that spinners should flight the ball, vary their line and length and take some risks. Hmmm.... how likely is Bashar going to be in taking risks and creating opportunities?

i havent seen the whole fo the first test nor have i seen all the cricket in the second test but frm what i hv seen i hvent seen the quickies trying to york batsmen at all ... i think shahdat with his pace can be effective with the yorker nd also if u can bowl yorkers it does not matter if u r express like shoaib akhtar or not it is always an effective tool ... i hope they try sth like tht bcoz in a docile pitch like this the bowlers hv to make things happen...

I wasn't sure about Shahadat for the test (against Aussies)but I must say he is bowling really well in this dead pitch! He must vary his attack though, bouncers should be wisely used and well directed, hasn't tried any yorkers yet.

I'm loosing patience with Basher. He must attack the night watchman for crying out loud especially when Shahadat was bowling his heart out !

Raffy got Jaques!!!

At the end of the day, I have to admire Ponting's assertiveness. He got a dismissal which he believed to be the case. He will be reported. Big Deal !! It's like in football you get a yellow card but the goal stands. You will take it anyday.

The Referee has a problem. He cannot censure Ponting without also implying that the Umpire[s] did not himself know the rule.

The Referee has a problem. He cannot censure Ponting without also implying that the Umpire[s] did not himself know the rule.

Regardless, Match Referee has to hold the game up at its highest level and oversee that its laws are obeyed and respected. This is cricket... it has its inexhaustive laws and rules, and this is what makes it special in many people's eyes.

i would rather we lose the test than hv a draw bcoz of bad weather ....we shud fight it out in the middle not hope for nature to save us frm our opponents .....thts not a good attitude to hv ... we shud be confident abt our abilities and fight back ..... i knw we r down right now but still ..... nd i agree on one thing sm ppl said here tht bashar's field placings r ridiculous... he has no slips for the nightwatchman but kept a slip when phil jaques was batting against shahdat which was correct ... but then y no slip for gillespie??? nd razzaq looks like a typical one day bowler ... however it is good tht he is keeping one end tight maybe rafique can pick up wickets bcoz of this .... razzaq might frustrate the batters nd they might go after rafique giving his more chance for picking up wickets....

What a shame for Bashar for not been able to dislodge the "night watch man",I had already stated in this thread earlier that BCB should think seriously to replace Bashar as a captain only and keep him only in test cricket as a batsman, not in OD ( replace with whom as a captain in test and OD,that a million dollar Q ),lets advise your opinion about replacement.
I fail to see how it is Bashars fault that Gillespie is still at the crease. Gillespie is one determined player! If he gets out, its usually through a brain explosion (very rare) or a very good ball. Gillespie's average stay at the crease is around 95 balls, which is roughly how long he's been out there now. Have patience, this guy is no ordinary no.9 batsman!

I'm actually far more worried about Ponting. He's very succeptable to quality pace bowling early on in his innings (He very often gets caught lbw whilst shuffling across his crease). I would have thought of it as given that Bashar may have opted to bring in Shahadat from Razzak's end immediately after Rafique took Jacques' wicket, considering how dangerous Ponting can be when he has made a start, and considering the relative ease in which he handled our spinners in the last test.

Oh well!

I think we have to tolerate HB some more time. There is no one who can immediately replace him. In future, may be Rajin can replace him, he seems to have bright prospect.

if we want a captain for the future then my vote goes for s nafees provided he can cement his place in the team with his performance... bcoz he seems like s very matured person nd is self critical which is imp. if one wants to improve .... he will make a good captain ... but not for another 3 to 4 yrs .. till then bashar is the only realistic option we hv ....

Has Rajin ever captained a side in the past? If not, then I would say it's not a good idea to give someone the captaincy with little/no prior experience. I mean he's a great player, but just because you may have a 'bright prospect' does not mean your cut out to be a leader. You need to look no further than Bashar.

Either way, I'd prefer if Bashar hung on to the role for a while longer, and in the meantime we gave the VC role to a younger player who the Coaching staff believed has the credentials to be a future leader of the side.

With the some periods of rain delay probably expected for the rest of the Test, if we can muster up some resistance in our second innings we luck out and get a draw.

So here's what I think BD needs to to do for the rest of the Test

End Day 3: Australia: 345/7
End Day 4: Austraia 422; BD 166/3
End Day 5: BD 352; Australia 53/2

Match ends in a Draw because of some intervals of rain; It's not impossible for us to save this match we need to dig deep and bat well and a little help from mother nature will be a big morale boost for the team

Yes - totally suport that. In fact, there is a possibility that a good chunk of the 3rd day will be wasted due to rain as well. So we HAVE TO take up a lot of overs in our second innings - and force a draw.

Feels like the old days - when rain was the best perfomer on our side! :D

Interesting to hear the discussion on Aftab's dismissal. They're gingerly talking about whether Ponting merely inquired about Aftab being out or arguing/gesturing to get him out.

Ravi's pretty critical about Ponting. Gavaskar was more diplomatic: said that Geoff Marsh made a decision, lets get on with the game. But he did hint that he doesnt agree with Geoff Marsh saying "Ponting was merely inquisitive" and that the camera should speak for how Ponting acted!

To Mr-Cricket: it makes sense to bring the pacers in early. its relatively cool, they're fresher, there's more dampness in the air, as well as sinking into the pitch.
