I think we should all take a break from recommending the final 11 for the comming ODIs againsts Austratlia. I think, no matter who we chose it won't make a difference, for it is impossible to stop a disaster from happening.

We all should draw a fine line between being realistic and pessimistic.

Don't lose your fight before it is fought.

i think our players should take a deep breath and forget about whatever happened in the second AND the first test. assuming that most of the rest of this test match will be washed away, there's not much point in talking about its future anymore. we (not the players, though) may as well concentrate on the odi series now. at least i, for one, don't care what happens in this test anymore.

the memories of the second test will simply continue shattering the confidence that the boys gained from the first test and the win against sri lanka (and also probably to some extent from the annihilation of kenya), whereas thinking about the first test will simply leave their minds in dreamland, whereas in reality, they have a tough job in their hands.

my odi squad would be as follows:

1. Rajin Saleh
2. Shahriar Nafees
3. Habibul Bashar
4. Mohammad Ashraful
5. Aftab Ahmed
6. Alok Kapali
7. Khaled Mashud
8. Mohammad Rafique
9. Abdur Razzak/Shahadat Hossain
10. Mashrafe Mortaza
11. Syed Rasel

Note that, albeit being a Javed fan, I have dropped him from the eleven. Now I do think that he's done a decent job (nothing to go nuts about, but decent) in both odi's and test in the recent past. he's featured in a couple of fifty-plus partnerships in the opening stand, and seen the shine off the ball. he and his partner (mostly shahriar nafees) have prevented the fall of wickets till at least the tenth over, which is crucial in odi's. however, i do believe that we have a better odi opener in rajin; he's done an excellent job in the test series, and looks like he's capable of rotating the strike as well as manufacturing high-scoring shots - both of which are ingredients to keep the scoreboard ticking. while javed is ok, rajin seems more capable of playing a long inning. i have considered playing him at four - and in that case JO would be opening - but didn't want to meddle with the middle order (although i did meddle with the sequence that they come in to bat). we do seem to have a middle order that has been recently doing a better job than old times.

now the number three position. well, i don't really want aftab to take it. i know he's done awesome against kenya, but that was kenya. if he's looking to hit sixes out of nowhere (which is a good quality that he has), he might as well do it down the order; i don't really see us destroying the aussie bowling (not that it's an impossibility - T1D1), so that we will probably have to concentrate more on building the inning and going for the fireworks later.

bashar has been pretty supportive to his colleagues in recent odi's, and finally seems to be learning the trade.

for number four, i have ashraful. this is his last chance, though. he has been completely out of sorts in the test series, and hasn't scored much agaisnt kenya; he might have a few good scores against sri lanka, but has been throwing his wicket away in the most careless ways possible since then. although he has been unlucky on a few occassions, i just feel that he needs a break if he doesn't perform. i am, of course, not completely writing him off though. i acknowledge his ability, and if he can learn to check those irresponsible shots and continue playing like he did against sri lanka, he will be an asset in the long term (as if i had to tell you that :)).

my choices for the rest of the side are elementary; i want either one or two specialist spinners, depending on the conditions that we play in. rasel should be an automatic choice for the odi's, as he will be useful with his ability to swing it both ways (now that didn't sound right, did it? :p). so if it's a more pace friendly environment than a spinner's paradise, i'll pick shahadat over razzak. alok kapali should be a decent fifth bowler, and we can use aftab/rajin from time to time if required.

I will take that, in that case this test will be drawn without the help of nature.;)

As it seems there's no sign of Nafees Iqbal so Rajin easily gets the opener slot... but no Rana?? this is not acceptable... Aussies will plunder us!

1. Rajin Saleh
2. Shahriar Nafees
3. Habibul Bashar
4. Mohammad Ashraful
5. Aftab Ahmed
6. Alok Kapali
7. Khaled Mashud
8. Mohammad Rafique
9. Abdur Razzaq
10. Mashrafe Mortaza
11. Syed Rasel

12th Man: Tushar Imran.

Damien Martyn is going home with an elbow injury and being replaced by Mark Cosgrove. Cosgrove hasn't played any international cricket yet but averages 41 from 24 first-class games.

I like the team of AsifTheManRahman.

However, if Alok plays then Shahadat should be in the team. And Tushar should in next, if any one of Ash, Aftab or Alok fails in first match.

Javed will be in the team ! Otherwise, he would not have been in the 14.

His scoring is no worse than others ! In fact, on average, he is more reliable and since the England tour actually scores runs quite briskly particularly the upper cut.

I am not sure how Tushar will come in. Rasel for Shahadat, maybe Alok for Razzak. Then, two part time bowlers in Aftab and Alok. I doubt that !

After watching the bowlers attitude today (T2D4 - morning), I am totally against Razzak playing in the ODIs.

Also, Shahadat breaks his back for the team in this lifeless pitch, but our fav Mashrafee plays it safe, soft and uninspired. I believe that Shahadat has a better claim to an ODI spot than Mshrafee at this moment. Rasel/Shahadat pair should do as well as, if not better than, Rasel/Mashrafee pair.

Please someone make sure Razzak slips from some stairs before the ODI and has to rest for a week while the ODI series goes on.

Perfect team!!!

Only modification I'd make is remove Razzak's name from #9 and just keep Shahadat.

Yeah, Shahadat is a far better option than Rajjak. And we may need 3 pacers for the powerplays against Aussies.

JO will most probably not be in the playing 11..

We might see Rajin as opener and Tushar at 6. And after Rajjak's performance in 2nd Test.. he might be out as well. I see 2 options for the team:

First: Tushar at 6 and Mash+Rajib+Rassel
Second: Alok as allrounder and Rajjak+Mash+Rassel

I surely like the First one!

Seems like Alok shared his secret of blackmailing faruk with Rajjak.

Did not like TI in the team either. He will always do good in the practice and A-tem matches and will always fail in real matches.

is there any need for playing ODI's anymore...ain't we got enough in first test??

AsifTheManRahman
April 19, 2006, 09:19 AM
lol...SS that is exactly why our players should forget about the second test and concentrate on the odi's - take them as a new beginning. the only way we can restore some respect is my putting up a decent show in the next three matches.

I am not so much against JO in Test - but i think he is a misfit for IDIs. I'll be glad if he proves me wrong.
