Neaz Ahmed, he played in the famous test in which D'Oliveira score 144. A famous match for many reasons

Against England in Dhaka.

Excellent thread. But just for accuracy, D'Oliveira scored 114 n.o. I know as I saw every ball of it. I still regard it being one of the best knocks I have seen in test cricket. Even though I have probably seen hundreds of tests since, live and on TV.

The reason I say this is because Parvez Sajjad was turning the ball square in Dhaka's loose turf and was effectively unplayable. However D'Oliveira hung on and in the next morning with solid help from Snow and Underwood took England to 274 from 139/7 at one stage. His paddle sweeps were excellent

This was, of course, before the change in lbw rule, since when a batsman can be given out not offering a stroke even if the impact was outside the off stump as long as, in the opinion of the Umpire, the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps. Snow effectively padded out Saeed Ahmed who was also turning the ball prodigously. Those were Dhaka tests with Salimabad and Provincial paratha lunch boxes. Not quite the same two weeks back in Mirpur.

Great thread !

Bramall Lane ? But is it the same ground or like Headingley where Cricket and Rugby League share a stand but there are two adjacent grounds.

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/england/content/ground/57296.html

Sheffield was the early home of Yorkshire cricket and Bramall Lane was at its centre. Its spectators were renowned as some of the most knowledgeable, partisan and vocal in the country, although opponents who proved themselves were warmly appreciated. But the venue was never an ideal cricket venue as it was primarily a football ground - its remains the home of Sheffield United and staged internationals as well as the 1912 FA Cup final replay. There was a certain irony that the site was chosen because of its clean air and good light; by the early 1900s it was renowned for soot-filled air and permanently gloomy aura, with local factories pumping out smoke to add to the choking smog. It was a surprise when Sheffield was chosen to stage a Test against Australia in 1902, less so when bad light was blamed for England's 143-run defeat. Poor attendances meant that the experiment was not repeated, although it did host one of the Victory Tests in 1945. Yorkshire upped sticks and changed their base to Leeds in 1903 and, while Bramall Lane remained a regular venue, economic pressures led to Yorkshire playing their final game there in 1973. That winter the football club filled in the open side of the ground with a new stand and its cricketing heritage was consigned to the history books.

X was having a hard time in the tour of Pakistan in 1988-89. In the four innings of the first two Tests, he never reached 20 and was likely to be dropped for the third Test. Y was expected to make his debut in the third Test replacing X.

Just before the third Test, Y made the mistake of adding a few ice cubes, which turned out to be contaminated, to his beer. The next day he was in constant pain, unable to move except to vomit. In a few days, he became skinny and started "to resemble Ivan Lendl". He continued to suffer for the next twelve months and could hardly eat at all.

Y's chances of appearing in the third Test went up in flames. X was picked again and he scored a fifty. From there, their careers went in different directions. X became one of the most successful cricketers of his country. Y never played in a Test, and wasn't even selected for another tour.

Who are X and Y (no googling and looking up the score please) ?

The Bangladeshi cricketer C did not improve upon it when he made his debut in the England series in 2005. He eventually entered the list in Sri Lanka in 2007, in his third Test match, in the fourth place behind A, B and the Zimbabwean cricketer D.

As far as I know, there are only two others who got MoM award despite their side losing by an innings and both are Bangladeshis. Who and which matches ?

2. Once the question is correctly answered the CricketGuru will acknowledge that and any member can post a new question and take the role of CricketGuru.
3. Please do not post a new question before the current question is answered.
4. Question should be cricket related.
5. Member who will take the role as the cricket guru should acknowledge the correct answer when it is posted.

Those pairs have multiple 100+ partnerships, in both Test and ODI.

here is a question from me :

"Do u know which Hattrick in Test cricket involved 3 wickets in 3 separate overs. can u name the bowler and how the hatrick actually involved 3 different overs "
:) Too easy, only had to google the question.
The Hughes hat-trick remains the most convoluted in Test cricket because it involved three separate overs in two innings. Bowling for Australia against West Indies in the Second Test at Perth in December 1988, he ended the first innings (on 3 December) by dismissing Curtly Ambrose with the last ball of his 36th over and Patrick Patterson with the first of his 37th. He then trapped Gordon Greenidge lbw with the first ball of their second innings (on 4 December). It was the 19th hat-trick in Tests, the first by an Australian for 31 years and only second to be taken over two innings following the one by Courtney Walsh in the previous Test.

your answer is closer than offstump's.... the answer is.. these pairs of batsman hold the record for the highest odi partnership for any wicket for their respective countries.. so.. now you have a go!!

btw.. if u've got the correct answer for offstump's question then shouldn't you get 2 chances??
