Bad light stopped the play.from cricinfo

India have gone off for badlight! At the start of the over the groundsmen were ready with their covers, ready to invade the arena when the rains arrive. Meanwhile in the middle, the umpires had a chat, offered the light to the batsman and surprisingly, they accepted it! Dravid, was on the massage table, in the dressing room and looked a bit surprised that his batsmen have taken the light. At least that's how I read his body language, don't hang me if that was not the case! But its still a surprising decision to come off. Its not raining yet, admittedly its overcast, a shower might come soon but its still not raining and it was in India's interest to pile on the runs.

Now the umpires are having a long chat with the groundsmen, eyes fixed at the skies. Taufel gets his light meter out, keeps checking the readings. Still no rain, but no play either and that as they say is that.

June 11, 2006, 12:27 PM

Only an extraordinary innings from Lara can pull WI out of trouble ...and Lara is very capable of that .

India needs to go flat out and nail WI ...get VRV singh from the other end ..Pathan has lost the sting .

At the and of the day... (i mean 5th day) it will be another draw. India doesn't have the match winng strike bowler for a Test match who can can change the match by himself.

Captain

WI loses 2 quick wkts.
Score now is West Indies: 106/5 (38.5 Ovs)
Yes , winning strike bowlers are not there for India if the conditions don't favour them.Kumble and Harbhajan are good in favourable conditions, they definitely need bowlers like say Kapil Dev to win in alien conditions.
India may wrap up Windies 1st inngs soon and may enforce follow-on but it's still a tall task to get them all out in 2nd Inngs.Maybe the pressure of runs and time can go against them.

CricFanBD
June 13, 2006, 01:14 AM
I am very much disappointed by the awful batting of WI's Batsman, When India Bat, the pitch behave like a batting paradise----on the other way when WI bat, the pitch behave like a mine field. If WI continues their horrible batting, India will definitely win the test series--no doubt. It is very much hard to believe that the same side got a 4-1 ODI series victory against India. Plz Lara, do something....

Captain
June 13, 2006, 04:33 AM
^ There's a proverb ..nacchte na janle uthan tera.India would not have batted the way WI did in their 1st innings. They would not have been in the position as WI are now,had India batted first. On the contrary India would have got a lead of atleast 100-150 runs.Their batting has always been strong, occassionally though it fails.:) But their bowling lacks some match winning pacers. It will not be easy to get all those remaining 9 wkts.As Lara said India will have to earn them.

That 4-1 could have been 2-3 easily, the blame squarely goes to India. But WI certainly lost the momentum they gained in ODI's.

About India winning the series, well Cricket is a funny game ,you never know.

bharat
June 13, 2006, 09:30 AM
India will win if the weather permits :-(

They have been a bit unlucky in the first test ...but I am afraid this might be disastrous for India ..hope India gets atleast 100 overs before the match ends ..I guess it should be good enough to wrap the WI ...

Match has been called off for the 4th day,not a single over has been bowled.India has been very unlucky with rain.In 2004-05 they lost the home series 1-2 to australia. They were in a winning position in the chennai test and the series could have ended 2-2 but rain god had other ideas. It will be a hard task to get all the remaining 9 wkts on the final day tomorrow against WI.

Sovik

Tigers_eye
June 14, 2006, 03:32 PM
1st, with massive power one can simply push at a fast bowler and connect it as a six. However, on kumble's ball, I have no idea.

2nd, 100+ overs gone and WI still standing. Lara is the man.

3rd, its not over yet. 8 overs left 4 wickets to go. One more and the tail is exposed like the last match. Fazal's analysis is becoming partially true. It may be a draw but not boring.

India's bad luck continues. Indian players will realize it more in the next test coz Lara has recovered his lost form. Now India can take some tips from the SA as they often experience this type of situations(mostly in the WC).
