Yep! I missed it Good luck!!

My prediction is already in trouble. Ecuador and Holland are out. that means in quarterfinals I will have one game (C) with no representation. Grrrr!! Can't believe I am pulling for Argentina against Germany. I think Messi has won my heart. Amazing guy. Unbelievable talent. I saw him taking on 4 defenders by himself and winning it. Can't wait to taste more of that. Coming of the bench, he is just too good for the tired defenders.

I am very much surprised to see this thread; almost everyone predicts Argentina will win against Germany---No Doubt in their mind? Why? I think when we will do prediction we need to use our head not mind. I know Argentina and Brazil is a very popular team among the Bangladeshis....they love them either they win or loose.

If we already followed the WC's matches.....Germany played a real attacking football, in 4 matches they scored 3 goals in first 10 mins. Yeah Argentina also did well, especially against Serbia, that game is awesome.

So I think no one is clearly favorite, 50-50 chance. But playing in the home ground and Germany has the record to win the WC twice (1954, 1974) in their homeland-----they may be deserve a semi final at least.

Even though i HATE Argentina ( im a die hard fan of Brazil)... but i want them to win against Germans.. and come all the way to the final where they inshallah would face Brazil....

Classsical game it would be...

and after one of the greatest football match ever played... Brazil will win the World cup 3:2.. he he.. its more of a dream result than prediction... i hope it goes that way.. inshallah

also after last night's loss to italy...i DONT want any european teams to win the cup..

People are so much talking about Germany's wonderful football. But lets not forgot who are the oppositions. Costarica is in lowest echolon of the teams of this WC;Poland is also in the same leaue as Costarica. Ecuador may be better but not in the same league of say Mexico. Even when germans played them they droped 5, best XI players where as germany played in its full strength.I consider Sweden at the middle quality team marginally lower than Mexico. Lets check whom Argentine played. I would positioned S&M between 16 -24 ranking of this world cup. Ivery Coast is the most unlucky team not to qualify. They are better than Ukrain, Switzerland and on per with Mexico. I do not considering Argies match with Holland as both of them played their A team. But Holland A team is still better than Poland and Costarica.
So Germany played 2 of the worst teams (position 25 - 32) and 2 of lower mid quality team (position 16 -24) where as Argentina played 2 mid quality team (pos 10 -15) and 1 worst quality (pos 25 -32). As Holland A also played Agretine A, if we consider that then there is one top quality or higher mid quality (8-12). That means argentina played much more tougher opposition. Lets not forgot what they do to the worst opposition and germany barely managed to beat the Poles.
So even with home support I do not think Germany could beat Argies unless the 12th man play like the german game with sweden when one of the swedish defender were very harshly red carded. I think most of us also think in this direction. So ARGies are favourite over Germany.

Sorry, can't agree with your analogy. We all used our head and mind. Undoubtedly, Argentina was the best team ("team" not individual players) in the first round. Ronaldinho has already said their second goal against Serbia was the best team goal. Over 10 passes and a magnificant finish. And there is Messi, who can change the game by himself. I think Ballack is too cocky. Home crowd would definitely be an advantage for the Germans, but hey we did use our head.

Hi R_S,

This Worldcup is in Europe. So if we go by the history then any european country or Brazil would be champ. I would think the host Germany is the favorites; just because they are at home.

Some Statistics from FIFA:

A review of the teams’ shots at goal provides a minor surprise: the Germans have required 78 attempts, 38 of them on target, to record their ten goals, almost twice as many as Argentina, who have the same number of goals from 41 attempts, 21 of them on target.

Both teams have landed roughly half their attempts on the target (Germany 49 per cent, Argentina 51 per cent), so the South Americans clearly rate as the more efficient of the pair. Approximately every fourth Argentine effort has resulted in a goal (24 per cent), whereas the Germans have only netted one shot in eight (13 per cent).
Germany are ahead by a wafer-thin margin in terms of passing. Klinsmann's team have completed 1,748 of a total of 2,070 passes (84 per cent), whereas the Argentines have found a team-mate with 1,666 out of 1,998 (83 per cent). The hosts have had more success with their crosses too, landing 33 out of 111 on a team-mate's head, chest or foot (30 per cent). By comparison Argentina have managed this on only ten occasions out of 66 (15 per cent).

The Germans are also slightly ahead on discipline with five yellow cards compared with Argentina’s eight bookings. Germany have committed 66 fouls to the South Americans' 69, although the situation is reversed for fouls suffered: opponents have fouled Argentina 83 times to Germany’s 70.

The hosts lead the way in terms of possession, having controlled the ball for 227 minutes in their four matches to Argentina's 205 minutes. Much more surprisingly, the Albiceleste have only launched a paltry six counterattacks, compared to an impressive 26 quick-fire breaks by the host nation.

Ultimately, however, the Argentines will derive both comfort and inspiration from their overall record in this tantalising fixture. The nations have met 16 times at full international level, with five wins for Germany, four draws, and seven Argentine victories, the two-time world champions finding the net 23 times to the Europeans’ tally of 22.

Prediction as of today

Germany to win against Italy
England wins against Brazil in the other (dont ask me how)

Germany hopefully beats England in the final

I wouldnt be able to swallow the English media for the next 4 years if they win

How? By bribing the ref so he gives Ronaldinho a red card and adriano, roberto carlos yellow so they loose the third place match aswell..

NOBODY predicted a France-Italy final.. heh..
only cricman and babulangla predicted France making it to the finals though..but i guess they were also using their heart over their head...like rest of us...

so..can Italy do it ?? proving us all wrong ??
