The ICC's cricket committee made a recommendation last month that both teams be allowed three appeals to the third umpire if they feel there is doubt about a decision of the on-field umpires. If approved, it would be tried out on an experimental basis in the Champions Trophy in India in October.

what do you guys think of it? I think it is going to be an effective law unless the third umpire itself makes the wrong decision too. Should the team be penalized if the initial decision was correct? I think that should be there to prevent teams jumping for appeal all the time (they can max of 3 times).

hey no one has any comment about this new change to cricket rules??

remember discussing a lot about the super sub thing before it was scrapped.

the appeal law is not appealing to anyone?

It has its merits, but I can see it taking away some important aspects of the game.

While we never like an umpire to directly influence the outcome of the game, it does make a close game quite interesting and sometimes controversial (eg. Test decided on very close LBW decision on the #11 batsman with 2 runs to win).

I think we would often find the bowling team save their appeals until the last wicket, and then use them every time it hits the pads of the batsman, in the off chance it might have gone on to it.

Having said that, I would like to see it tested in the Champions Trophy. The idea can't be dismissed immediately.

The umpires will be in lot of pressure, since now the players can appeal and if the decision goes against the umpire's decision then umpire's might lose confidence in giving a decision afterwards.

Regarding their appeal for 6-day Tests.. don't play in winter.

Why should they get 6 days when nobody else does? What if there is perfect weather for 5 days, but they take the 6th day anyway and come from behind to win. Bad idea, hope the ICC reject it.
