The Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, is one of the oldest test venues in the Caribbean. It hosted its first test in 1930 and has since been one of West Indies' regular home venues (and lucky venues!). It is one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the Caribbean, with the Blue Mountains to its north and the busy Kingston Harbour on the southern side. Home to the Kingston Cricket Club, it is one of the oldest First-Class venues too - having hosted first-class fixtures since 1894-95. It is scheduled to host the opening match of the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Click here to read more about Sabina Park.
The last 8 tests played here have produced results.
The curator of the Sabina Park has dished out a pitch that will be to the faster bowlers' liking. .

June 30, 2006, 09:30 AM
the pitch will favour the batsmen for 1st 2 days. so toss will play a ,ajor role in this test too. i hope windies win the toss first and bat

June 30, 2006, 09:41 AM
How many centuries does Brian Lara have on this ground? I desperately want to see him score a big one here.

June 30, 2006, 09:46 AM
India have won the toss and elected to bat. India will go in with two fast bowlers and two spinners.

Bad news for West Indies, They will have to play very well if they don't want to loose from here. it will be huge task for them to play kumble and Harbhajan on 4th or 5th day.

it will be another great test

June 30, 2006, 10:25 AM
3 runs 2 wickets not bad. Keep it up India.

June 30, 2006, 10:48 AM
India 7/2 (9.3 ov)

great start. keep it up windies. not bad loosing the toss. huge task on dravid and laxman

June 30, 2006, 10:52 AM
Collind and Taylor are bowling really well...
India are 8/2 after 10 overs: RR=0.8!:wow:

June 30, 2006, 10:58 AM
anyone watching this game live? how is the pitch? are the bowlers getting swing?

June 30, 2006, 11:02 AM
Cricbuzz commentary says the ball is swinging. how long it will swing that is the question. first 20 overs and then it should flatten out. So another wicket is crucial at this stage for WI.

June 30, 2006, 11:04 AM
I'm watching from willow-tv, the pitch was announced to be flat but Collins and Taylor bowled in good lenght and Sehwag and Jaffer went out soon. Now Dravid and Laxman playing very defensive. Bravo is in... I don't know how many italians are watching this match live! lol....

Also: Sarwan was hit by Jaffer and got injured to his knee.

June 30, 2006, 11:07 AM
Finally 2 runs for Laxman after 20 dot-balls!

June 30, 2006, 11:17 AM
Lara drops Laxman off Collymore (in for Taylor)... looks like West Indies could make more damage.

(it wasn't a difficlut catch... Lara got it in his hands but couldn't grab!)

June 30, 2006, 11:31 AM
Wondering how come an Italian watching a 5 day Cricket match when the Worldcup quarterfinal game is on? Are you sure you are Italian?

June 30, 2006, 12:16 PM
Wondering how come an Italian watching a 5 day Cricket match when the Worldcup quarterfinal game is on? Are you sure you are Italian?

Posso scrivere qualcosa nella mia lingua così sei sicuro che sono italiano!:p

I'm not watching Germany-Argentina as italian national channel Rai is not showing it, it's only on sky-tv.
I have bought last two matches of this series to watch some test cricket live... other tests are played when it's night in Italy, while this series is played when here time goes from 17:00 pm to midnight, so I can see it!

This evening I will keep one eye on Italia-Ukraina and the other on 2nd session of this match. Aren't cricket and football/soccer/calcio the most beautiful sports in the world?;)

Back to the game: last overs were bit frustrating as indian batsmen were over-defensive... at last they scored 29 runs in 29 overs.
Collymore bowled really well and deserved a wicket but Lara dropped a good chance.
These are his figures: 7-0-3-0
Waiting to see how things will change in next session!

June 30, 2006, 01:06 PM
India is displaying slowest batting I have ever seen

India 42/3 (33.3 ov)
Run rate - 1.25

June 30, 2006, 01:10 PM
west indies are well in this game. they should get rid of yuvraj or dravid soon

June 30, 2006, 01:14 PM
windies do it do it do it do it do it

June 30, 2006, 01:19 PM
i never seen any team playing so slow in recent time. they are really in backfoot. come on windies

yuvraj is hammering bravo

June 30, 2006, 01:21 PM
Very good WI, plz keep the pressure. What a good day for me! Germany just won and WI also play well.:D

June 30, 2006, 01:31 PM
Could have been much worse, lara dropped laxman early

June 30, 2006, 01:38 PM
yuvraj gone, kaif in, west indies in business, India 58/4 (41.1 ov)
Yuvraj Singh lbw b Taylor 19 (34b 3x4 0x6) sr: 55.88

June 30, 2006, 02:12 PM
Kaif gone, India 78/5 (47.5 ov)
M Kaif c Lara b Taylor 13 (25b 2x4 0x6) sr: 52.00

now dhoni to come. if windies can get dhoni and dravid by today, comon windies, take 5 more wickets

June 30, 2006, 02:25 PM
Dhoni gone. what a game windies are having. India 91/6 (50.2 ov)
MS Dhoni c Bravo b Collymore 3 (4b 0x4 0x6) sr: 75.00

4 more wickets windies. come on windies

June 30, 2006, 02:42 PM
sunshininn' , the weather is seeieein' , go to the rescue, here iiiiaaam,
C'mon Lara and CO. ; repeat those Caribbean classics against Dravid, the broken wall

June 30, 2006, 02:45 PM
100 up for india, and in this series kumble batted well and windies need to get him out soon

June 30, 2006, 03:18 PM
Harbi and kumble are the last resistance. Dravid is the wall no doubt. 144 balls and 39 runs. Unbelievable patience. Hats of to him. Still grafting out.

June 30, 2006, 03:25 PM
dravid is unlikely to get out. windies should attack kumble. and kumble already played more than 30 balls

June 30, 2006, 03:46 PM
highest partnership already, 40. grrr! change bowlers do something Lara. We are all falling in Dravid's trap. The innings should have been ended already.!!!!

June 30, 2006, 03:57 PM
kumble is doing it again for the indians. windies should wrap up indian innings soon

June 30, 2006, 04:04 PM
They need to get the new ball ASAP. I think 10 more overs left before then can ask for one.

June 30, 2006, 04:09 PM
dave mohammad should have been included in this test. atleast windies would have a spin bowling option. they are playing only 3 specialist bowlers and bravo.

June 30, 2006, 05:55 PM
Day one ends with India 200/10... credit to Dravid for his 81 runs off 215 balls and a good partnership with Kumble who scored 45. Great job by Windies bowlers, especially Taylor who got his first 5er and Collymore who took 2 wickets for 17 runs in 19 overs: av. 8.5 and econ. 0.89!
Let's see if West Indies can make a good total tomorrow so to have the chance to win both test and series. Sarwan looked seriously injured today so he probably will not bat tomorrow... bye!

June 30, 2006, 06:31 PM
sarwan will be great loss for windies and lara will have to play very well and they have to score 200+ to keep pressure on indian players. as we see new ball did the damage so 1st 20 overs will be crucial for both teams

July 1, 2006, 03:35 AM
im so happy to see indian disaster. hope WI can pull out a result from this test.

July 1, 2006, 06:39 AM
windies need to bat 1st session very carefully. hope windies will win this match and shut chappels big mouth

July 1, 2006, 07:03 AM
xavier, ummm, u- ; are you originally an italian, i mean to say your parents are italian or they are from bangladesh ?, its quite incredulous an italian is interested even in test cricket

July 1, 2006, 10:35 AM

July 1, 2006, 10:36 AM
gayle gone. huge task on lara

July 1, 2006, 10:38 AM
xavier, ummm, u- ; are you originally an italian, i mean to say your parents are italian or they are from bangladesh ?, its quite incredulous an italian is interested even in test cricket

yes I'm italian just like my parents and grand-parents and on...

Did you ever wonder why cricket is only followed in former uk-colonies?
Because those people had the chance to know and understand the game, while rest of the world did not have this chance... otherwise cricket would be popular there too, because it's a thrilling game once you understand the way it's played!
So I started to be interested in it surfing the net and discovering how it's popular in many places in the world... now it's my favourite sport with football and following cricket on the net has become one of my favourite pastime!:)

The game: excellent the delivery by Sreesanth with the ball turning a bit to the off-stump to fool Gayle. Now Lara and Gayle are trying to build a partnership: 2-3-4 in first three deliveries of the seventh over. Weather is windy and cloudy... another four by Lara...!

July 1, 2006, 10:52 AM
great going by lara, 2 fours off kumble

lara out, sreeshanth strikes
BC Lara c Jaffer b Sreesanth 26 (40b 6x4 0x6) sr: 65.00

July 1, 2006, 11:19 AM
Lara tried to play a bouncer but lifts the ball to Jaffer for a good catch... now Samuels in, Windies look in trouble as Sreesanth is in great form.

July 1, 2006, 11:25 AM
Samuels stumped by Dhoni as he misses the ball and his back-foot was just inches off the line! 53/3

July 1, 2006, 11:26 AM
MN Samuels st http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/navigation/engine-nav/keeper.gifDhoni b Kumble 2 (20b 0x4 0x6) sr: 10

west indies in big trouble. they need fit sarwan in the middle and score from everyone. if they can't take a big lead it will be impossible to face spinners on 4th innings

July 1, 2006, 11:54 AM
windies in trouble but ganga fighting back

ganga gone. lbw by harbhajan. 80 for 5

July 1, 2006, 12:03 PM
72/4 Chanderpaul threw is wicket away with a wrong shot, easy catch for Dhoni.
80/5 Great delivery by H.Singh: ball turns to trap Ganga lbw.

July 1, 2006, 01:12 PM
99 for 8. windies are in deep trouble. they are definitly loosing this match and the series. same old story

July 1, 2006, 01:22 PM
103 allout. Harby 5/13

July 1, 2006, 01:58 PM
Jaffer out! India 1/1!
Great one-handed catch by sub Morton... Taylor can make damage again!

July 1, 2006, 01:59 PM
lara wanted a fast pitch, got one but could not capitalize

July 1, 2006, 02:07 PM
6/2 Sehwag lbw by Taylor!

July 1, 2006, 02:10 PM
its going to be low scoring match.but india had 97 runs lead to start with that gives them huge advantage

VVS Laxman c Lara b Collymore 16 (59b 2x4 0x6) sr: 27.11
63/4 (26.0 ov)
Yuvraj Singh c Lara b Collymore 13 (20b 1x4 0x6) sr: 65.00

they are leading by 160 runs and they way windies batted and the pitch behaving, india might in the position to win this match

July 1, 2006, 04:22 PM
im so happy to see indian disaster. hope WI can pull out a result from this test.
WI will surely pull out a result.WI played very well. They are the deserving winners.Hope to see a century from Lara ,Gayle (if reqd. from Ganga.)

India: 200, 74/4 (30.2 Ovs)
West Indies: 103
India lead by 172 runs

As for India ,the less said the better.Hope they can manage to lose.

July 1, 2006, 04:25 PM
welcome back, captain
kaif gone, M Kaif b Collins 6 (15b 1x4 0x6) sr: 40.00, ndia lead by 174 runs with 5 wickets remaining,
i am afraid that west indies will loose this match. its so difficult to bat out there. windies need to get dravid out. 15 wickets so far today and 22 overs still to bowl

July 1, 2006, 04:43 PM
I am not sure about the weather.
But,I am sure that this match will surely end with a result.

I am pissed off after Brazil's ouster.

July 2, 2006, 05:40 AM
this match will be finished by today. india already have 225 runs lead and that looks enough they way west indies players batted.

July 2, 2006, 10:58 AM
Collymore bowls Dravid! "the wall" finally crumbles... and India are 154/8.

Great match by captain Dravid: 81+68

July 2, 2006, 11:06 AM
lol... 13 runs in his first 5 balls for Sreesanth!

July 2, 2006, 11:17 AM
Sreesanth out for 16, another catch by Lara.

July 2, 2006, 11:21 AM
That's it! India all out for 171... Collymore makes 5 (wickets) and Lara makes 4 (catches).
Target for West Indies is 269.

July 2, 2006, 11:22 AM
India lead by 268 runs. it will be a tough job for the windies batsman to chase this target. if sarwan is still injured, windies might loose this test

July 2, 2006, 11:34 AM
Gayle out on 2nd ball. He also makes a duck in 2nd innings!

July 2, 2006, 11:36 AM
what a dreadful start. and a pair on homeground for gayle, but sarwan is at no. 3 so he is fit i guess

it was lara, cricinfo got that wrong, so its a bad sign for windies

July 2, 2006, 11:50 AM
good point for the Windies is that they have all the time in the world (more than 8 sessions!) to reach the target... so they don't need to take any risk and can play cautiously.

July 2, 2006, 11:53 AM
good boundary from Lara, he really must be a leader today.
another boundary for Ganga, 15/1.

July 2, 2006, 11:57 AM
Harbajan Singh is in for Patel.

July 2, 2006, 12:06 PM
Lunch. West Indies 18/1.
Lara shaking hands with Dravid, congratulates him for his innings.

July 2, 2006, 12:07 PM
West Indies require another 251 runs with 9 wickets remaining

July 2, 2006, 01:09 PM
Ganga bowled by Sreesanth (great delivery) and Lara lbw by Patel... and looks like another batting collapse coming for West Indies. :umm:

July 2, 2006, 03:55 PM
132/6 after 47 overs for WI
Sarwan and Bravo are both gone after offering a good resistance and a 70 runs partnership.
These are scores for three of the best WI batsmen in this test:
Gayle 0+0
Lara 26+11
Chanderpaul 10+13
failure of the batsmen turned the good work made by bowlers Collymore and taylor to be useless.
Now Samuels and Ramdin are on the crease but hopes are over for WI as Sreesanth and Kumble are bowling very well. This is going to be first win in the Caribbeans for India since 1971

July 2, 2006, 05:29 PM
Despite heroics of Dinesh Ramdin, India finally registered their first ever victory in West Indies in 35 years . Finally India has won an overseas series.

July 2, 2006, 05:42 PM
good fightback by West Indies as they came from 56/4 to end on 219/10 and fantastic batting by Ramdin... if only the top order hadn't collapsed that way!

I'm waiting for man of the match, maybe Dravid or Kumble.
Meanwhile Lara saying "we played against the odds: bad selection and bad pitches"!

...ehm what about bad batting???

July 2, 2006, 05:44 PM
Rahul Dravid is man of the match and man of the series... well deserved!

July 2, 2006, 05:53 PM
The first innings bating led the windies down. But, they fought really well in the second innings.

July 2, 2006, 07:10 PM
im so happy to see indian disaster. hope WI can pull out a result from this test.

WI surely pulled out a result but it was the other way round.

July 2, 2006, 07:22 PM
Despite the One day series loss ..India did play real good cricket .Infact India could have been easily 2-0 or 3-0 if not for some bad luck ..rain and Lara.

Anyway ..It is a good series win ..Only Aussies has registered more than one series win in WI .Good win for India ..finally I am happy .

July 2, 2006, 07:39 PM
Only Aussies has registered more than one series win in WI .

south africa did that too and now India

July 2, 2006, 07:51 PM
India were the deserving winners in the this match. They should have batted more purposely in the 2nd inngs after they were bundled out for a mere 200 in the 1st inngs.269 was not a safe target,350+ would have been. It's another matter that
WI could not even chase that.

After India's 1st inngs ,Lara said they wish to bat out for 2 days,so as not to bat again. And they were bundled out for 100 odd runs.

Indian batsmen need to take some lessons from this test match.Only Dravid played well as he is known to play. All others failed.
So,a series win in WI after a long time.It could have been 3-0 or 3-1 for India.Hopefully they learn some lessons, learn to finish off the games.

July 2, 2006, 09:06 PM
>> south africa did that too and now India

England has too.

July 2, 2006, 10:52 PM
Congrats to India, they surely deserve it.

For the WC Football, I didn't follow the Test series so much.

al Furqaan
July 2, 2006, 11:36 PM
india deserved to win...but i do not think they won convincingly. couple that with a 4-1 ODI series loss, it seems india will have to play much better to beat SA in SA.

July 3, 2006, 09:34 AM
india deserved to win...but i do not think they won convincingly. couple that with a 4-1 ODI series loss, it seems india will have to play much better to beat SA in SA.

With the current performance I am not too hopefull about INdia in SA .Hope Sachin makes a difference ..but otherwise it does not look very promising .

July 3, 2006, 10:15 AM
Now lara may quite captaincy.

July 3, 2006, 11:11 AM
the batsmen who survived this pitch was Rahul Dravid. This guy is just too good of a batsman.

July 3, 2006, 01:13 PM
There is an article on cricinfo about that:
(and a touching picture)

There must be stg wrong with West Indies: if you pick them one by one most of them are very good players, but then they are always underachievers and often collapse in the moment of truth. It's something difficult to explain... there must be some trouble whether in the team or the board.

July 4, 2006, 12:50 AM
a dejected Lara

a happy Dravid

a dejected West Indian bunch

A thrilled Indian bunch

July 4, 2006, 05:06 AM
Lara wasn't happy with the board and selectors from the begining of this series but i don't think that was the reason they were allout for 103 runs. They can't blame board for this cause their selectors gave him 8 batsman for last test

July 4, 2006, 01:30 PM
i think windies is just searching for excuses. they are the ones who wanted a bowler friendly wicket, but then it backfired .

india was the better team and won deservedly. how long is it that they won outside subcontinent for the first time

Well done India for winning the last test. At least for the time being no one will get fired. Zafar has semented his place. Not at all happy with the bowling strategy Chappel is implementing.

Hats off the WI to hold the mighty indians at bay for the 3 breath taking tests.
