View Full Version : Sledging...

I found an interesting article about it on Wikipedia:

I would like to know your opinion about it, as I dislike it: cricket is a sport where you have to be mentally strong and concentrated (like tennis, in a way), so to me trying to upset your opponent is stg unfair. I'm glad it's reported that the Asian players usually don't make sledging (apart from Sangakkara, as you may read!)

Enough said that I don't like sledging... I admit this one was real fun!
Greg Thomas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Thomas), a Glamorgan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glamorgan) fast bowler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_bowler), thundered in and beat Vivian Richards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivian_Richards)'s bat. "It's red and it's round. Can't you see it?" the bowler taunted. The next ball was precisely the same; pitching three quarters of length on middle and off, seaming away, and once again Richards was comprehensively beaten. "It's red and it's round and it weighs four-and-a-half ounces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ounces). Can't you see it?", Greg Thomas quipped. The next delivery was right in the slot, and Viv smashed the ball out of the ground and straight into the river that flowed around it. The batsman then said to the bowler: "You know what it looks like... go get it!"

Well, the Eddo Brandes-Glen McGrath incident was also very funny. And there was another one which involved Vivian Richards and a fast bowler whose name I can't remember, that was also quiet cool. The ones of Kumara Sangakkara didn't attract me that much.

It was part of the game. It will continue to be part of the game no matter how many micro phones are being put around the wicket. Intimidation with the stare is just as vitious as sledging. Batsmen don't look at Murali's eyes for a reason. :)
