Majola also indicated that South Africa are concluding arrangements to face as yet un-named opposition in Abu Dhabi "`We are looking for extra one-day games and they are almost finalised," he said. "The conditions in Abu Dhabi are very similar to those in India and that will give us the preparation we need for the Champions Trophy.''
It can't be Sri Lanka, West Indies, Australia, India, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, England

So that leaves Bangladesh and New Zealand or Sri Lanka(maybe they wanna apoligize for chickening out)

un-named opposoition just gives me the feeling that it's us & I really do wish that it is us gives the players a chance to reprimand themseleves for what they did in Zimbabwe.

If it is us, a good beat down or a win can go a long way in getting ready for the CT.

That will be great but I don't think thats the case. Maybe we can invite them to come to to Bd for some ODIs.

this is a golden opportunity. sadly, the CB officials will probably let this one pass by as well.

do they even know that SA are looking?

could also be sri lanka AND us - after all, the one in Sri Lanka was also meant to be a triangular

I think it will be either New Zealand or West Indies. South Africa will not find it interesting to play against BD before ICCT.

It can't be the West Indies because of the Maylasia tri-series

It can't be the West Indies because of the Maylasia tri-series

The match can be scheduled after the trie series. They have15 days after that before ICCT.

Most likely it will be NZ, but again, Abudhabi may want an Asian country, in that case we should at least try to participate there.

Board rules out replacing Pakistan
South Africa turn down England approach
Cricinfo staff
August 25, 2006
Cricket South Africa has announced that it will not be able to send a side to play in England should Pakistan not be able to honour their commitments.
"We were approached by the ECB earlier this week, requesting the Proteas to replace Pakistan should they withdraw from the ODI tournament against England," Gerald Majola, the board's chief executive told reporters. "We have turned down the request on the basis that we are committed to playing against Zimbabwe in the three-match ODI tournament starting next month."
England have also been reported to have approached New Zealand and West Indies asking whether they could fill the gap should the need arise.
But West Indies are due to play their opening match in Malaysia on September 12 - two days after the scheduled date for the last ODI in England - and are also likely to find themselves struggling to help out.

if pakistan play out the odi series in england, then they will probably not be able to make it. so it's not pakistan, it's not zimbabwe, not india, australia or west indies (tri-nation in malaysia). leaves them with sri lanka, new zealand and bangladesh. hopefully sri lanka will turn them down (if the big bosses have ego problems, which hopefully they do). we might very well have a tirangular then - featuring new zealand, us and south africa. that's more than we could've asked for. please CB, use your heads!

Why it's not zim? SA has the best relationship with them.

Although i think at Abu dhabi BD will pull some good crowd.

Maybe because they will come right after finishing a three game series with Zimbabwe... why play them again?

They are already playing with Zim at home. So it can't be Zim again.

Ah! thankyou for pointing it out. So the remaining teams left would be NZ, BD, SA and SL. That would be nice. CB should take initiative ASAP.

we have to play the six-a-side tournament well thats only 6 players and a team of Tamim Iqbal and other hard hitters can play in that event while the regular Nat'l team members can go play in Abu Dhabi.

BCB don't mess this one up like they did in the new 6 year FTP.

The only reason we might have some game in Dubai would be our Asian heritage. Chances are high that we will participate if SL denies.

actually, the media could play a role here too, by urging CB to pursue this. however, i hardly doubt anything will be written in the newspapers, since our reporters are too busy pulling conspiracy theories out of their butts, and are no good when it matters.

My respect SA cricket board just multipled reading about their response to the ECB. It's really appreciable that they turned down an offer to play a team like England because they are commited to Zimbabwe. That shows a lot of their commitment to their words as well as their commitment to support African Cricket to improve.

Only if our 'nearest neighbour' was as accommodating as the SA board!

We South Asians are like Crabs in a bucket, when one tries to climb up the others pull him down. ;)

Well, I think we'll only participate if Sri Lanka denies. But the question is: Will Sri Lanka let this opportunity pass by?

We South Asians are like Crabs in a bucket, when one tries to climb up the others pull him down. ;)

You already may know this:

A guy had a chance to visit Hell. There were two angles escorting him around. There he saw people were suffering in the fire. People were divided by their nationality. Each nation had their own hell-cell surrounding by huge walls. Angle guards were pettroling on top of the thick walls. At times, one or two would try to escape and the guards would mercilessly beat him down to the hell fire. Suffering was hard to watch. At the end of the tour he saw a group of people seperated in to a hell cell from the other nation walls burning. But the thing was there were no guards on the wall which seemed to be very strange to that guy. So he asked the angles:

Why there is no guard on this group?
One escort angle answered "Oh! They are Bangladeshis they don't need any guards."

The man visiting found the answer to be more strange and asked why?

The other escort angle replied, "Cause if one tries to escape, I mean try to climb up the wall, the others instantly fight and grab the guy and pull him down to the hell fire. Its in their nature built-in."

I know off-topic. Mods delete the post if there is too much complaint.

i think BD will only have a chance if both SL and NZ can't make it. South Africa will probably be looking for some meaningful competition after playing the zimbos and right now we are actually worse than the zimbabeweans.

We're better than the Zimbabweans even right now.

Need an explanation:) ?

It's either a perfect example of "the bad effects of extreme moderation" or sarcasm. Actually which one is correct?

On topic:

Qualifying for the 2nd round of ICCCT is more likely than getting invited to play in this tournament.

That was I thought as well. It was very commendable for the South Africans to turn down high quality opposition (England) for Zimbabwe.

</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="ArticleBody"> Abu Dhabi: The chief of the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council, Dilawar Mani, said that he had no knowledge of any matches involving South Africa to be played at the Zayed Cricket Stadium next month.
A report from Durban yesterday quoted Cricket South Africa chief executive Gerald Majola confirming a series of matches in Abu Dhabi against an unnamed opponent.
"I have also seen that report. But we have not planned anything. I don't think it will be possible for us to organise any matches as the time is too short," said Mani.
South Africa, who withdrew from the tri-series in Sri Lanka citing security concerns, are keen to play some matches to prepare for the Champions Trophy to be held in India in October-November.

I have a feeling it may happen but the Bosses in Abu Dhabi probably wan't assurances that people will go and watch the matches as a Tri Series of BD/SA/NZ is really not as mouthwatering as an Indo-pak series.

I mean you can't hold an event at a $22 million dollar ground and have the stadium be half empty.

Bangladeshis are not renowned for taking quick decision. so it would take around 30 days to prepare the paper to be send to SA that we are willing to play by the time the tournament would be finished. We miss the chance for hosting/participating in Unitech, we would miss this no wonder

Amazing what google news can do for you, PCB and Cricket Australia have declined tp participate in it,
They concurred with our information that the matches would be played on September 23, 25 and 27 http://www.supercricket.co.za/default.asp?id=187719&des=article&scat=supercricket/sateam

It seems like Sri Lanka already has an invite to the event
The Chairman PCB said that as per International Cricket Council (ICC) rules no team can participate in another tournament within one week of its participation in the first tournament. Sri Lanka has to play the qualifying round of the ICC Champions Trophy and it would be difficulty to organize the tournament.

So the main question is if it's going to be a three team event with one team playing the other once or just a SA-Sri Lanka series? BCB needs to do some butt kissing if they want in i'd say BD chances of participation is 3/10.

We are discussing so many things here but whats going on back home? Are they really thinkin about this? What about sending a mail to Saber bhai? He might be able to inform the BCB about this although he is not associated with BCB anymore.

Wow!! do u think BCB is not at all informed about it??? That's a bit weird speculation :)

It is everywhere on the net. BCB is definitely informed but not sure wherther they are involved in it :) ?

Well whatever you say I was forced to think in that BCB might not be aware or uninformed about this matter. It is because top officials are busy with the party politics, after all they have to regain the membership of the parliament :)

So its not surprising for anyone thinking like me!
