Very intelligent answers! He certainly talks the talk...and so far indications are that he walks the walk as well as far as working hard on his batting is concerned. A captain has to lead from the front...and Shahriar has that ability as well. Early days but good luck to him.

:) Smart guy!

On one side is this commeng by SN regarding determinants of his place in the team and on the exact opposite end of the spectrum is Ashraful's comments like "Playing against weak teams do not motivate me much"... ... really shows the difference between these two a lot.

If he can make others realize it, with one comment he has done more for the BD team than any BD Vice Captain did in their leadership roles.

What a point from SN:
"I think if you are born with something special you should strive to get the best out of it."

Is it too early?
Will this brew frustration with Pilot and bring more Polite-trics (Politics...) in the long run?

totally agree with you. Glitzy Ashraful talks without knowing how he will perform, but we never know what can happen to SN, who knows he will turn to another Ash.
I am loosing faith on Bd superstars.

Whatever his reaction to the news, the decision to appoint him vice-captain was the wrong decision. We don't need to "groom a future captain" at this juncture, with the Champions Trophy and the World Cup coming up. For the next 9 months, Shahriar Nafees should be thinking of one thing and one thing only--how best to score runs for Bangladesh, not about how to be a future captain, and not about how to best respond to journalist's questions about his vice-captain appointment. Regardless of how he has responded to the news, naming him vice-captain will inevitably make him think about things other than scoring runs, ahead of two very important tournaments. Bad decision, imho.

SS, you never had any faith in any Bangladeshi cricketer (super or non-super), how can you loose something you don't have ?

So far seems good, but he must have to improve more on his batting consistency. Though my only concern is if he lose 'current' batting consistency ... that will be too bad for all of us. Wish him good luck.

As of now, he seems like the brightest prospect for us, hope he can keep it up.

I just hope and pray that he would not have to take that much pressure this soon, Habibul Bashar INSHA-ALLAH TA-ALA would recover for CT.

sorry mate, cant agree with ya.
Captaincy is a gradual process. You cant just wake up in the morning and hand over ur captaincy to someone new. it happens thru a systematic channel over the period of times. It is also a normal procedure for any team to appoint the future captain the VC role. this way not only he gets in the mind frame for what he is supposed to do, but teaches him a thing or two.

Mind you, u will never get it till u actually walk in that shoe.

and yes, offcourse his main priority is to score runs. and hopefully he will go on doing that. but to be a captain u need to be a multi-tasker. if he already crumbles under pressure knowing he will be captain one day, that might go to show that he is not ready.

yes, we are taking a big risk here but we had to take it at some point . it could work as a advantage as well. some ppl excels under pressure esp when given responsibilities. who knows, may be SN is like that. knowing he is the next captain in line, it might help his grow mentally even further and act responsibly while batting. this might help him become even more consistent with the bat which eventually would help the team.

saying so, there is lot of IF's and May be's in my points. but thats all we can hope for at this moment.

I believe the juice is worth the squueze.

this just highlights the importance of a good education, SN is an educated and well spoken man, and it would do the team good, as well as the country to have a fluent english speaking captain who understands questions that are put to him and can respond acordingly.

Ash on the other hand has still got the mentality of a street cricketer who preffers to watch TV rather than study and cheats when it come exam time.

lets not get too excited...let us study some examples:

1) ash: "i need to play more responsibly", "i played poorly cuz they bowled too slow" et al.

ash has said stupid things, and he's also said smart things...all in all his career has been pretty stupid. so his words realy don't carry much weight.

2) rajib: "i don't care about anything except pace"

this comment of rajib's was either right before he got smacked for 100 runs at Lords, or right after. this comment made ash's dumbest statements seem genius. of course, we all said and knew that rajib would be a huge nothing in cricket. and look, barely a year later, he has shown immense strides, and has learned to bowl decently, can get some movement and reverse swing.

3) SN: he said all the right things. but ash said the right things, turned out wrong; and rajib said the wrong things, and turned out right. its a matter of what the player has inside his head and behind his rib cage that counts...not the sweet or painful sounds which emenate from his throat.

so lets hope that SN has the goods...i for one believe he does, but we'll have to wait and see if blind faith ends up correct.

besides, he just said what he had to - anyone with an average brain would talk like him.
