India in the 4 day practice match vs. (a strong) the Rest of South Africa in Potchefstroom, South African Sourav Ganguly (aka Dada) and the all rounder Irfan Pathan led the way in day 1for India. Almost all the batsmen including Jaffer, Shewag, Laxman and Tendulkar struggled to fight the bounce whereas unexpectedly, Dada who is known to struggle against good pace and bounce showed the way to others. Dada put up 83 runs while Pathan completed his first century at form of the game if I am not mistaking. This inning will temporarily silence the critics but has dada done enough to earn another test cap? The fact the top order is struggling certainly helps Dada's case but whether or not Chappell and Dravid would select him remains to be seen. Dravid will be back for the first test, and if India plays 7 batters including the keeper and Pathan as the all rounder, then they only go with 3 specialist bowlers! Granted that dada can bowl a bit as well and the fact that its seam friendly wicket of Durban might assist him but it's still hard to imagine if dada gets selected for the first match as an all rounder. What if he doesn't make runs? You certainly can't expect him to pick up 5 wickets. What happens then? More importantly, how will India pick up 20 required wickets to win a test match? As far as dada is concerned I think he has to play freely and not worry about getting dropped. The more he will worry about that the less runs he will make. Pathan will definitely get picked but his value as a bowler is diminished. Worries ahead for India but for once Dada has "quitened" his critics for a day if not silenced them.

dada did good. 2 or 3 good innings and his place will be permanent. and he can not do worse than shewag

Dada is on his way to regain his spot on the Indian team... it's kinda ironic that Indians were totally writing him off couple of months ago.

Useless analysis!

Even if he didn't make any runs in the warm up game he would have played in tests after the drubbing India got in ODIs.

And: "Pathan is a specialist bowler" who can bat a little bit. clear?

so far it looks like pathan is the best batsman india have got. other indian batsman showed no backbone at all. gangu even though made 80 and 0, remains to be seen how he play in tests. actually its a good thing india is putting some left handers in the lineup.

Ganguly could be back in WC ODI if Yuvraj's injury keeps him away!!

Just a couple of months, and the whole scene is totally changed. Now only Ganguly is is the only automatic choice for the indian selectors out of whole indian batting line-up. It's a very big u-turn.
