View Full Version : Mashrafee: Highest wicket taker in 2006 ODI's

Congratulations Mashrafee for becoming the highest wicket taker in the calender Year 2006.

Before todays match Bracken was the highest wicket taker (for 2006) with 46 wickets with Mashrafee trailing by 1 wicket (45 from 25 matches). The 2 wickets Mash got today made him the highest wicket taker with 1 more game left this year. I desperately hope Mash gets 3 more in the next game and becomes the first Bangladeshi Bowler to get 50 Wickets in one calender year.

Looking forward to Nafees's 1000 runs in 2006. He is currently 5th highest run getter this year with Gyle (1210), Sangakara (1208), Jaywardhane (1147) and Jaysuria (1041) ahead of him.

P.S. I do not know how many matches Bracken got left this year. Can anyone shed some more light on this?

The remaining ODIs for the year:

Bangladesh v Scotland at Dhaka, 2nd ODI, Dec 17
New Zealand v Sri Lanka at Napier, 1st ODI, Dec 28
New Zealand v Sri Lanka at Queenstown, 2nd ODI, Dec 31

Mash is at least safe from Bracken, Lee, and Taylor who are NOT playing any more ODIs this year. Interestingly, the one person who can catch-up to him is our own Razzak if he does a 6-fer in the next match and Mash gets zip.

Nafees needs to score 27 more runs in 2 matches.

Wow ... I didn't notice the 2 more ODI's vs SL. So we basically have 2 players with potential for 50 wickets in 1 calender year!!

Well done to Mashrafee. However other nations are likely to not take much notice as 17 of the 26 games Mortaza has played this year have been against against Kenya and Zimbabwe. Nonetheless, 47 wickets is a great achievement.

Cool Mash!!Hats off to you mate..

Hope he grabs 3 more in the next match and Razzaque also gets 6..How is that?Sharing 9 wickets between Mash and Razzaque?Improbable?might be..but surely not impossible!

Actually... Mash has become the all-time highest wicket taker in a calender year for BD... not just highest wicket taker in 2006(later one is among all teams in 2006). Congrats to him for both!

Good thing is that physio and Mash have come to grips with the recurring injury problem that plagued him last year. He needs to maintain fitnes up to WC.

It's good to see....
Good that his talent is proving effective ...
But honestly, the opponents batsmen, most of the time, were not from a stronger side.

I think masrafee needs some more variation in his bowling so that he can do the same damage against big teams , in WC.

Actually, i think variation-wise, hes great, judging from the zim series....MUCH more variation than Shahadat. Still, MORE variation cudnt hurt....:smug:

to Mashrafees list of accomplishments. If you look at the extras from both pacers and the high percentages of ducks, it's obvious that Shahadat & Masree - either on their own or under mgmt's instruction - went all out. I'd have loved to see that opening spell - musta been sheer aggression.

Now..everyone thank Zimbabwe :) lol..
Nah..anyway.. whatever matches Mash got..he took out his best from it..He deserves a lot of credits..and he should finish 06 as the #1.
Well done..
I hope SN gets 36+ Runs in the last match..so he finishes as the 3rd highest ODI run getter in 2006.

SJ - 1041

Sorry Protic, Jaysuria, Jaywardhane & Sangakara . .all 3 got 2 more ODIs left in this calender year against NZ. So while Mashraffee's record is pretty safe, it is unlikely that SN can maintain a 3rd position even if he gets 100 odd runs (In his current form, Jaysuria should get 64 from 2 matches).

I was reading somewhere that 17/26 of Mash's games were against Zims or Kenya. Can someone compare his SR and runs/wic in those 17 games vs. the remaining 9?

That's 65% of matches, pretty high for a test nation bowler.

Mashrafee 17th in the alltime list...Still pretty great...Zakirc, i think you might wanna change 47 wickets to 49 wicket (for mashrafee) and mebbe update the less important things too (the avg, maidens, runs, etc) if you feel up to it ofcourse...
