Guys imagine you had to select the 15 man squad today. I am having a tricky task, In deciding you have to try to think what the selectors will take (its not a case of what you think) I think I know what the first team 11 is at the moment.

But there are question marks, serious questions do even the selectors know what is going on - they will have to formulate an action plan - How much cricket do we have till the squad is anounced to iron these out.

Question 1: Mashud or M Rahim ?
Question 2: Is Farhad really a all rounder, Has the guy been given his chances ?
Question 3: How many all rounders do you take and who are they ?
Question 4: Is Mehrab good enough to be in the first 11 ?

1. Shahriar Nafees
2. Mehrab Junior
3. Aftab Ahmed
4. Saqibul Hassan
5. Habibul Bashar
6. M Ashraful
7. Mushfiqur Rahim
8. M Rafique
9. M Mortaza
10. A Razzaq
11. Shahadat Hossain
12. Syed Rasel
13. Farhad Reza
14. Tapash Baisya or Sharif
15. Tushar Imran or Another batsman Tamim ?

I think there probably is about 3 positions up for grabs !! or uncertainty lies around.

Here is what I think:

1. Although Mushfiq Rahim shows a lot of potential, we need the more mature and experienced KM for the WC.
2. Do we need more All-Rounders where we already got Rafiq, Mashrafee & Saqib?
3. We already have 3 (as above) and they all all we need.
4. Yes, Mehrab should be there with SN. I like the way he keeps his cool.

Hence, my team would be:

1. Shahriar Nafees
2. Mehrab Junior
3. Aftab Ahmed
4. Saqibul Hassan
5. Habibul Bashar
6. M Ashraful
7. Khaled Masud
8. M Rafique
9. M Mortaza
10. A Razzaq
11. Shahadat Hossain
12. Syed Rasel
13. Farhad Reza
14. Tamim Iqbal
15. Mushfiqur Rahim

Still a long way to go, but for the time being I will stick to this lineup.

Really? You guys want Tamim in the team already for the WC team when he never played an odi before or even better, wasn't even in limelight before his century against scotland? wow... One century makes a big differnece in this country.

pilot will stay.mushfiq will have lots of wcs to play.for now,we will need pilot's experience.i dont want farhad in the side.he is good, but i feel that he can be replaced with a specialist number 6 batsman.farhad is not sharp enough as a bowler to restrict a side, nor a strong enough batsman to hold the team during crisis.a specialist batsman will provide more depth down the order as our middle order collapses often against better teams.if we need a fifth bowler instead of a batsman, i would pick rusel as the first change bowler who can bowl 10 overs straight.

Mushfique fails to impress me enough to give him the nod for world cup. same goes for jnr. he has not impressed me enough either yet to make him the autometic selection for the opening. but i'll keep him in my world cup squad. here is mine, I know some will start jumping on me, but i'll explain why is what:

1. Shahriar Nafees: no question asked
2. Mehrab Jnr: i'll keep him in the squad.
3. Rajin Saleh: among the two, one opens
4. aftab ahmed: most valuable one day player
5. ashraful: like him hate him, he is gonna be there.
6. hablu bashar: i'll keep him even though i wish i had a replacement.
7. shakib: have not proven enough to get in 11, but enough to get in 15.
8. forhad reza: same as shakib
9. pilot: just because we do not have a better replacement
10. rasel: best 3rd seamer available yet
11. mashrafee: no question asked as long as he finishes all the over before 45th over.
12. shahadat: no question asked
13. rafique: no question asked
14. rana: he was the only bangladeshi spinner to do good on WI pitches.
15. rajjak: have not proven anything yet against quality opponents and fast pitches, but i'll keep in 15 anyway.

Yeah man, where the hell did Tamim come from? I believe Rajin would be a better backup after the playing 11.

My WC squad would be like this:

1. Shahriar Nafees Ahmed
2. Mehrab Hossain Junior
3. Aftab Ahmed
4. Sakib Al- Hasan
5. Habibul Bashar
6. Mohammad Ashraful
7. Khaled Mashud
8. Mashrafe Mortaza
9. Mohammad Rafique
10. Abdur Razzaq
11. Tapash Baisya
12. Sayed Rasel
13. Shahadat Hossain
14. Rajin Saleh

Note:

(a) Against India, Rajin Should Open instead of Mehrab, because he has the experience of playing against them, and as well as he is familiar with West Indian wicket.
(b) Shahadat should definitely not play against India. His pace is good, but to choke the Indian batsmen, we need swing. I prefer Mortaza-Rasel-Baisya trio against them. I am sure; the raw pace of Shahadat will be plundered. Tapash has not played any ODI this year, and his bowling has nothing exceptional, but still I have belief on him because he has a good record in WI wicket (Remember the Baisyan Blaze: 4-14 against WI) and also he did well against the Indians. Rasel is a good swinger of the ball, and his medium pace cum swing may be destructive.
(c) Against Sri Lanka, Shahriar Nafees’s record is not good. He should be careful. His opening partner (Rajin or Mehrab) will be based on Rajin’s performance on the first match.
(d) Against the Lankans, all our four pacers have a good record. So, time will say who will share the new ball.
(e) In WI wicket, I prefer 6 Batsmen (Including WKT), 5 Bowler combination (3 Pacer, Two SLA). The problem is that I still cannot believe on our batsmen. On the other hand, as we do not have a specialist all-rounder, we need five specialist bowlers to check the runs, especially when we play against the big guns. The BD Cricket History is against me, because such a combination badly failed in Asia Cup 2004. So, finally I have concluded that if we play with four bowlers, then Sakib and part-time SLA’s must contribute. Sakib has shown a lot of promise, and he therefore should be well trained for the battle of the WC.

<O:p</O:pFirst of all, i do not want any bits and pieces all rounder. I am in favor of classical all rounder. Unfortunately we have none. This lead that we should have 8 batsmen, 6 bowlers and Wk in WC 15
Of the 8 batsmen 5 pick themselves.
SN, Aftab, HB, Sakib and Ash (you like it or not).
Of the 6 bowlers 4 pick themselves
Mash, Rajib, Rajjak and Rafiq.
The point of debate would be selection of the W/K 3 batsmen, and 2 Bowlers.
W/K<O:p</O:p
Even 4 matches ago Pilot was an automatic selection. But not now. Mushfiq impressed with his neat keeping and the only match I saw him batting. Though I have reservation on the attitude of Pilot I would go with him because of his experience.
Bowlers<O:p</O:p
Contenders
Rasel<O:p</O:p
Taposh
Sharif
Rana<O:p</O:p
Enamul
In the team that selected themselves we have 2 full time and 1 part time SLA. This made very difficult for selection of another SLA. though enamul might be a good choice, he should be set aside for lack of experience. In WC, experience count. This criteria should paved way for Taposh. He is also the best of the lot in batting (bar Rana). For the rest spot, it is direct contest between Sharif and Russel. I would go with Sharif not because he is better than Russel but smaller WI ground and slow pace it would be easy to hit Russel. Though Russel would give variety.<O:p</O:p
In batting there is vacancy for 1 opener and 2 middle order.<O:p</O:p
Contenders<O:p</O:p
Mehrab<O:p</O:p
Rajin<O:p</O:p
Tushar
JO<O:p</O:p
Alok
Farhad
NI<O:p</O:p
Though I was a supporter of jr he failed to impress me after seven matches. Considering that Rajin has much versatility (he can also bat middle order, bowl off spin and very good fielder) he should get the nod first. This leaves two spaces in middle order. Though Farhad impressed as number 6, I still believe he is not a specialist batsman. Jr actually played like a specialist no 6 in u19. JO and NI did nothing to get call in ODI. Between Tushar and Alok, Alok should get the nod because he is better fielder not a better batsman. I would go for Alok. I think last position should go to Mushfiq. It would give him valuable experience plus keep Pilot on his toe.
So here is my World Cup XV with the preferable first XI
1. SN
2. Rajin
3. Aftab
4. Sakib/Ash
5. HB
6. Sakib/Ash
7. Mash
8. Rafiq
9. Rajjak
10.Pilot
11. Rajib
12. Alok (He is the best fielder of the lot)
13. Mushfiq
14. Taposh
15. Sharif

Currently the following combination is what we have:
Batsmen: Shahriar, Mehrab, Aftab, Bashar, Ashraful
Allrounders: Saquib, Farhad
Pacers: Mashrafi, Rajib, Russel
Spinners: Rafiq, Razzak

For WC this is what we could think of adding:
Batsmen: Tushar
Allrounders: Nadif
Pacers: Sharif (Thinking WI wud be pacer friendly - hence extra pacer)
Spinners: None

Oops! forgot to add wk. my choice would be Mushfiq as Pilot is experienced and his experience is not helping much at present. However, he can come back after proving his worth in the premiere league.

Allrounders: Saquib, Farhad
Pacers: Mashrafi, Rajib, Russel
