Having spent most of the day on the telephone to all and sundry, it is still far form clear who will be broadcasting the match. It is likely to be shown inside Zimbabwe and it is being claimed by several sources that ESPN will be covering it, although in which regions is anyone's guess.

We have still not got any response from Zimbabwe's Information ministry and so cannot get anyone into the country. Few foreign journalists are there but, rest assured, we are doing all we can to resolve the mess.

When all is said and done, the only people who can take action here are the ICC executive board which consists primarily of the heads of the ten Full Member countries. They are unlikely to do a thing as they look after their own with admirable loyalty, so don't expect the situation to get any better.

There is a chance that the third and fourth matches might be on TV. Don't put your house on it, however.

Why change Tapash for Sharif ? are we giving people chance to 12th Man - My serious concern is over Mehrab. Sharif of old did quite well in these conditions. And his meant to be a good feilder as well.

Bashar also gave credit to the way his side batted. "260 as a target is generally a good score when it comes to an ODI on any wicket.... cricinfo (http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/zimvbdesh/content/current/story/278988.html)

I don't know. 260 shouldn't be a good score... a score that will give the bowler a chance...but not a good score.

A target of close to 280+ should be a good score.

i agree, but on this wicket, 260 might have challenged even a decent side.

bear in mind that mash, rafiq, mushy combined for 5 runs or so. we should have easily posted 280, and would have done well to get 300 odd.

but a wet wicket is generally not batting friendly, AFAIK

I am not sure about that....it was too late in the innings for Rafiq/Mashrafee/Rahim to make a big difference.
Mashrafee, Rafiq, Rahim, Razzak and Shahadat combined batted only 12 balls total around the last three overs of the innings(from 47.1 overs to 50 overs) and scored 6 runs. Even if they score 6-8 more runs it would be less than 270 runs .... forget about close to 300.

so is it confirmed yet tht BTV will show the match? If it does then thts a terrific news and could u plz tell me on which site could i watch BTV? well if it doesnt then definately thts soring...btw..whts the point of changing twelve men? /:) i think they r going to give tamim iqbal a chane if mehrab fails in this match as well....seems like shahriar nafees is gettin over confident with his batting against the zimbos...hope he doest go down the drain like the other so called potential batsmen tht BD has/had in the past...he should get more serious abt batting and should get some decent scores in his bag in this series...

they could have scored 20 runs from the last 12 balls which would get us to 280...

if ash and saqib hit out some more then they could have gotten to 300

Actually 20 runs (minus 6 runs that they scored) from 12 balls makes makes it 274 not 280.:-D

Very well, scoring 26 runs off last two overs isn't asking too much, is it? Our main tailender hitters Rafique and Mash could have done the job. This is Zimbabwe after all.

Kabir
February 5, 2007, 07:40 PM
We've been getting all we wanted from Mash in the last few overs. He has single-handedly won us a few matches with his slogging as a tail-ender. And on a good day, when the team total was 250+, I see no reason why Mash should be giving his life for another 20/30 runs. I would rather have him stay focused and bowl better. Same goes for Rafiq...except that he's been a no-show with the bat lately.

Hatebreed
February 5, 2007, 07:47 PM
I think the lower order started to relax a bit in the end because we had scored enough to defend. Though I doubt Masri would take that risk. He's a responsible player, and he remembers what happened in the last tour and has been proving himself ever since. Regardless, this is the last opporunity for our hitters to open their arms and prepare for the WC. God knows, we're gonna need it.

Why Still We are Ignored by Everyone. No One Telecast Our Match. If It is India than..........................What to Say? What Our 11 (Eleven) TV Channel are Doing? Strange.

AsifTheManRahman

usually, you'd wanna give a newbie a good number of games to settle down into the team, but mehrab just doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who would score freely in ones and two's. the fact that he's been facing the likes of zimbabwe and scotland also doesn't help his cause.

he's been giving us some good starts lately by sticking in there and making sure we don't lose early wickets, but he does seem to be overly defensive, a tactic that will probably not work against tougher bowling, especially when you're facing people who can easily identify your weaknesses and bowl to that. number one seems to be a big problem in conjunction with number seven at the moment - probably a bigger one than number six.

Nothing to Say If Zimbabwe Cannot Bat 50 overs.

Before the second odi, I want to ask our players these questions:

(a) We were 238 for 4 in 45 overs. So, whats the point of losing 5 more wickets just to score 22 runs in the final overs?

(b) Aftab, do you play 50 over ODI, or twenty20?

i believe it was a good decision to bat. out top order needs the exposure to bat in the morning under overcast conditions. losing both the openers this early just goes to show how inept we still are and not unlike any of our subcontinental brethern who recently had a horrid time south africa.

Regarding the omission of Brendan Taylor:

There had been some confusion over the omission of Taylor on Sunday, and it is rumoured that once more there are serious concerns over his commitment and attitude. Despite being Zimbabwe's leading run scorer in 2006 with 807 runs, he had a disappointing series against Bangladesh when Zimbabwe were whitewashed 5-0 and was dropped for the last match of that series.

Apologies again today. Ever possible stop has been pulled out to get coverage but all to no avail. It's an dreadful situation and one that nobody in a position to change things seems willing to address. We will have updates as often as possible. I am told it is on TV in Harare ...well, would be had there not just been a power cut!

Hey Martin, Thanks for trying buddy. You guys tried your best and that all we could ask for. And don't listen to some of the emotional Banglacricket forum members. Sometimes they do act like jerks. Anyway, it is good to see you represent Cricinfo and best of luck on your poor English team.

Of course i will try!

Interest is big here, especially when we win which isnt often but so many school children go in to watch the games and that can only be good for zimbabwe cricket.

Bangladesh and zimbabwe cricket are going opposite ways at the moment though, its good to see you guys progressing so fast, if only we could do the same.

Im sure it will happen in the future.

That's fantastic.

Even though Zimbabwe are going through a rough patch at the moment, if the interest is there at grassroots level, which is evident by what you say about school children going to watch the game, then the only way to go is up.

Also, the team is full of youngsters. Guys like Brendan Taylor, Elton Chigumbura, Anthony Ireland and Prosper Utseya... all about 20 years of age, right? They're all about 5 or 6 years from their prime, which gives them a head start over other countries. They will already have a few years under their belt at international level, when older teams such as Australia only begin to introduce players around 22 or 23 years old.

Like Bangladesh, it's not a matter of if they will get better, it's a matter of when :)
