The managing editor himself claimed that they would risk it for other test playing nations where the $$ value is higher .... risk for the correspondent is the same but $$ value is less in case of BD - ZIM match. So they wont cover this series.
Nobody wants the reporter to be hurt, and I would sympathize with Martin unless he (Mistakenly) admitted cricinfo's actual position.
I suppose. Well..I didnt know the managing editor said that. If he did, then well, I've been arguing for no reason.

Here is what he says today ....
I will try again. We could chuck £10,000 at this, the fact remains that unless you get the written permission of the Zimbabwe information ministry, you cannot get into the country to report on matches. We did not get that permission until shortly before today's match by which time it was too late to get anyone there. We cannot use local journalists as they are under the cosh and being seen to write for us would not be good as we are often critical of the way the game is run there.
It has nothing to do with it being Bangladesh. I had arranged and had in place people ready to go. If you still think that this entitles you to slag us off then so be it.
We are getting SMS updates for today and will do the same tomorrow. Surely a more pertinent question would be to ask the Bangladesh Cricket Board why it decided not to send a board media representative when they knew in advance that the matches would not be televised back at home?
And here is what he said before (February 4, 2007, 04:35 PM, post # 174 Match Thread first ODI):
Ok, explain to me how. Clearly you know far more about this than I do, so what would you have done to ensure that there are score updates? All I would say is that had it been, say, India or Australia touring then the value of the TV pictures would have been several million $ and so ZC would have ensured there was production.
As for it being "Crapinfo" ... well, the answer is easy. If you don't like it, don't use it.

Gentlemen
I have continued to try to keep you all informed about the situation as it stands and I thank most of you for your kind comments. However, it is clear that there are some people who manipulate facts to suit their argument and who will blame Cricinfo for everything. In view of that, there seems little to be gained from my continuing explanations.
All I would say is, read what I actually said. I never said that Cricinfo would pour cash in. I said that for a series against someone like Australia, the overseas board would pay more and so Zimbabwe Cricket would do more to ensure there was decent coverage to sell.
I am not under any circumstances prepared to risk breaking the law in a country where they are not known for their adherence to human rights. Some people we have used there in the past were unavailable because they were scared. Inside Zimbabwe, there is TV coverage now but there are also massive and regular powercuts. Our score today has been affected by this. And, incidentally, there are no telephone lines out of the media centre at HSC.
Regarding the finances. Yes, I probably would have flown someone into Harare today at short notice once the permission had been obtained had the opposition been Australia or India. The reason is that the cost of the operation - about $2000 for two matches - could have been recouped from commercial sponsorship and advertising. That is not the case with Bangladesh. That is not us singling them out, but I have budgets to adhere to and that outlay cannot be justified. As it happens, the lack of telephone lines would have made someone at the ground almost superfluous anyway.

Are you sure you are reading everything?
Martin's point was it was too risky to send someone to the stadium ... bla bla bla ... Now we know it is being shown live. So no risk there. The point that ZIM would ensure outside broadcast is his attempt to draw attention elsewhere .. like he did today mentioning BCB' not having a media team. So typical to pull in other issues to escape the blame of one's failure.
If there was live coverage outside ZIM, I seriously doubt there would be much fuss over Crapinfo's live scorecards.

Lee takes a wicket!! What a yorker to get rid of a middle over batsman!!
Anyway. BD is doing very well. Top stuff. Nafees is back.
I don't know how many of you guys know but Rafique has been cleared of serious injury. I just noticed the article now.
Weird isnt it? Bangladesh would be about 140 something for four now. England has the exact same. Both the matches have one batsman in single figuires and one in the sixties. Have a look at the similarity in figuires.
Scary.

30 overs Bangladesh 132 for 3 (Nafees 55*, Rahim 41*) v Zimbabwe
Bangladesh’s top-order batsmen again failed after they were stuck in by Zimbabwe in the third ODI at Harare Sports Club before Shahriar Nafees and Mushfiqur Rahim rebuilt the innings with an unbeaten 100-run fourth-wicket stand.
Batting first under grey skies, Bangladesh had a let off when Tamim Iqbal, making his international debut, was dropped by Vusi Sibanda at second slip off the first ball of the match. It was a brief reprieve as soon after Tamim top edged a wild slash to third man where Gary Brent, running far to his left, took brilliant diving catch.
The reckless approach continued when Aftab Ahmed perished in a similar way, top edging an attempted hook only to be caught by Christopher Mpofu in the deep.
All that was needed was for Bangladesh to play with caution against the seaming ball and wait for one of the many bad deliveries to put away. However, they showed little inclination to do that. Habibul at toss pledged team would be circumspect for the first ten overs; his words sadly did seem to get through to his batsmen. In the ninth over Chamu Chigumbura replaced Mpofu and straight away Saqibul Hasan drove loosely at one that moved away, and with little footwork all he managed was an edge to Brendan Taylor.
Whereas on Tuesday the innings sunk without trace, this time Nafees and Rahim dug in and after stopping the slide, they proceeded to open up as the gloom descended and the drizzle started.

Think.. If we get 5 an over for the next five overs we'll have 175. Then we have our Masri. Zimbos death bowlers are poor and I think we'll manage at least 75 in 50, granting that we do not get bowled out. Then we have a good score in poor conditions.
