well given that we haven't had too many problems crossing the 200 mark since the West Indies in the ICCCT, and that even our previous innings was a 260, i would like to think the 2nd odi was just a bad day and an upset, and i hope the players will brush it aside and come back strong in the next two games.

Rubu
February 7, 2007, 03:49 PM
Just wondering, how many of you still think last match was just an accident?

The reason I'm thinking it is: the players might as well thinking that the last match was an accident. Therefore, nothing to worry about, and go into the field with a light heart and play recklessly as usual. result is of course, a 2-2 series draw. Winning a series aboard still seems out of sight for Bangladesh.

Well the more I think about this series the more I start believing that the tour itself (before wc2007) will be considered a mistake. We will end up fighting tooth to nail to save our butt in this series....i.e. we will end up selecting a conservative and safe team upto 4th ODI..... therefore no chance of any kind of experiment to find out the question marks in the team:

1. Who is our #2 batsman
2. Who is our 3rd and 4th FB
3. Who is our 6th batsman
4. Who is our standby middle order batsman
5. Who is our all rounders

I fear, at the ned of the series we will end up with more questions and confusion about our team chemistry than before.

Q1 is a big one as is Q2.

however, does it really matter who our 3rd FB is? will our idiotic management ever use 3 pacers even if offered a green top?

Q3 and Q4 are related: the candidates are, IMO, ash, alok, tushar, and farhad. of these ash has the advantage. of the remaining people don't want to give alok a chance (i am going to start a new thread about him...it is high time).

but i would say the only 3 we should look at is ash, farhad, and alok only. tushar is big fat zero and has done nothing with the dozen chances he's had in the recent past.

Q5 is the least of our worries...i think mashrafee and saqib fit the bill best. neither are genuine allrounders, but then again not many are, so i won't complain.

Good point even though I kind of disagree about Alok and tushar though.

Now about Q5. Actually I think knowing about Q5 could have solved our problem with Q2 questions which effectd Q3 & Q4 issues. For example if we tried Sharif batting at #6 couple of games, we could have known if he is a viable solution as a 3rd FB. Or let Rahim bat at #6 and add tapash instead of Ash and see how he bats (at #7) and bowl, we could have another viable all rounder. But we will never know.

This is just two exmaples ..... the others are ....we are not going to explore any further if tamim, tushar, Reza, or even Nadif is going to have any role in the team or not.

We are kind of prematurely set our batting order from #1 to #6. Personally I think only #1 (SN), #4 (Sakib) and #5 (unfortunaely for captain Bashar as we cannot drop him now) should be only set. The rest (out of six) should be open for grab by the best in-form players.

I would like add Aftab at #3 without hesitation. That only leaves #2 and #6 open to grab and I'm concerened about only this two specialized batting positions. We can easily test this two positions in this tour. Taking Sharif will add value to #6 as well as to bowling. But who will remove Ashraful if not our current caretaker Govt do it by using RAB.

cant believe Bd can lost to zimbabwe that badly. Iif its zimbabwe's old team (i mean during streak captain, what would happen to BD), its not even Zimbabwe A team, its called B team. I think, Brent was player during Streak's captaincy. did u guys see his magic, i feel shame for BD team. now forget and lets pay attention for 3rd match

my team here

1. Shahriar nafees
2. tamim Iqbal ( must)
3. Aftab Ahmed
4. Saqib Ul Hasan
5. habibul bashar
6. tushar Imran (ashraful should be rested)
7.mushfiq rahim
8. mashrafi Murtaza
9. mohammad Sharif
10. tapash Baisya
11. Abdur razzaq

12th man---mehrab junior

rested players are: ashraful, rafiq, shahadat. I am sure, bangladesh would like to use their best 11 in the final match. why not to try other 3 in this match and find out best 11. team management should follow this and no alternatives. They should have done this in the 2nd match. but they are lack of imagination, so didnt see it.

:floor: hahahaha! magic? u've gotta be kidding me! This guy may be economic, but he isnt anything that our players cant smash around the park. If this was the australian team brent would've disappeared to all parts of the ground. Lets just try and compare ourselves to that team for once. After all we did beat them.
My point is, brent is nothing we cant handle. I assure you.

Here's the team for the 3rd ODI

Hard-hitting opening batsman Tamim Iqbal Khan will make his debut when Bangladesh take on Zimbabwe in the crucial third ODI of the Croco Motors series at the Harare Sports Club tomorrow.

The Tigers, who won the first game by 45 runs but came crashing down to earth on Tuesday with an 8-wicket defeat, have also decided to give all-rounder Mohammad Sharif and paceman Tapash Baishya their first matches of the tour.

Tamim, the 17-year-old younger left-hander, is expected to open the batting with Shahriar Nafees Ahmed. Mehrab Hossain (Jr.), who was Nafees’ partner in the first two ODIs has been dropped.

Sharif comes in for the injured Mohammad Rafique who is still nursing a badly bruised nose following a collision with Zimbabwe batsman Vusi Sibanda’s helmet on Tuesday. He was seen by a doctor today (Thursday) and according to team management sources, will be kept under observation for the next 5 days as the bleeding from the nose has not stopped fully. This effectively rules him out of the remainder of the series with the Tigers playing back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.

Tapash will replace Shahadat Hossain Rajib who reportedly had a forgettable day in the field in the second game.

Bangladesh team for 3rd ODI
Habibul Bashar (Captain), Shahriar Nafees Ahmed, Tamim Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed, Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Ashraful, Mushfiqur Rahim (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Sharif, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tapash Baishya, Abdur Razzak.

Yes, Ashraful is still alive in the team even after so many failure. He keeps people memorize "Failure is the pillar of success (!)".

oh.!!! c'mon.. take it a bit easy there...
loosing one game isnt the end of the world...
im sure the boys gonna come home victorious...

dont start talking about sending them to jail (!!!) for loosing a match or series...
jails are not for people who fight for their country's pride and bring us glory..
its for those money making poly's who's ruining our country...

lolz... i know u didnt mean anything serious...
im taking it easy too

You got it.
That was a joke.
But I am happy BD is taking just action against corruption big time.

Only hint to BD players; play your game seriously.:timeout:

ashrafool is becoming history pretty soon, if he continues to play like this. few days ago in one interview he was saying, as the openers are all playing pretty well; he did not feel the team wanted a big score from him. what a moron. I see R.I.P. written on his head.

Sorry to sound a bit narked, but have you read anything that has been written on this subject in the last few days? To reiterate: We cannot get any reporters into the country because the government will not approve them and it is a virtual police state as far as the media is concerned. TV coverage is local at best. We have a few people inside Zimbabwe but information is scarce. That could be why most other media outlets are in exactly the same boat.

Because of our wickets in domestic cricket - why else? Our openers get too easy wickets to bat on in Bangladesh + we don't have quality pace / seam bowlers = our openers not good enough for conditions and pitches outside Bangladesh a.k.a. outside the subcontinent.

Nafees is set for a 75+ score in my opinion. I hope I didn't jinx him. I'd advise all of you to use BBC sport http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/shared/fds/hi/statistics/cricket/scorecards/2007/2/14126/html/scorecard.stm

It's updating as often as the others but has more details.

Hi dear BC members and fans? This is Rabeed Imam, Editor TigerCricket.com and Acting Media & Communications Manager BCB. It has been quite a task getting the score updates from Zim but we're trying to provide periodical updates on the website. Let's see how this goes because we are depending on score via sms from Harare.

Sorry Martin, everyones real annoyed right now. More on our teams performance than your hesitation to send someone into a country in havoc. Ignore our comments, they aren't intended for CI.

I have been following Martin's explanations the last few days and I remember him mentioning that in case some Cricket Heavyweight was involved, cricinfo would have someone in ZIM for the coverage because the $$ value would be more. Lets not forget cricinfo is a business concern and it will only invest where it s profitable.

So when it fails to cover an ODI series between 2 test playing nations, we are entitled give them a piece or two of our minds. Etto tel marar kono dorkar nai .... oi betara gu er modhye thekeo poisha uthabe ... :p

I will try again. We could chuck £10,000 at this, the fact remains that unless you get the written permission of the Zimbabwe information ministry, you cannot get into the country to report on matches. We did not get that permission until shortly before today's match by which time it was too late to get anyone there. We cannot use local journalists as they are under the cosh and being seen to write for us would not be good as we are often critical of the way the game is run there.

It has nothing to do with it being Bangladesh. I had arranged and had in place people ready to go. If you still think that this entitles you to slag us off then so be it.

We are getting SMS updates for today and will do the same tomorrow. Surely a more pertinent question would be to ask the Bangladesh Cricket Board why it decided not to send a board media representative when they knew in advance that the matches would not be televised back at home?

The managing editor himself claimed that they would risk it for other test playing nations where the $$ value is higher .... risk for the correspondent is the same but $$ value is less in case of BD - ZIM match. So they wont cover this series.

Nobody wants the reporter to be hurt, and I would sympathize with Martin unless he (Mistakenly) admitted cricinfo's actual position.
