yes ladies and gents, WC 2007 is nearing and we are worried about our prospects. why are we worried? well lets look at the recent facts:
- sri lanka, who hammered england 5-0 in england, were beaten 2-1 by india
- england beats OZs 2 times in a row, and wins 3 big games
- NZ beat OZ 3 times in a row
- Pak thrashed RSA once, and RSA rules the rankings table
basically it means this:
SL >> england > OZ
RSA > PAK > NZ >> OZ and
india > SL
that is every team is in form. does that mean bangladesh can't stand a chance?
lets look at some of our famous wins and see what form would have indicated:
BD beats Zimbabwe 04: BD played fairly well in the test series tho we lost - we in decent form.
BD beats India 04: BD ran india close in the 1st ODI, and so was in decent form
BD beats Australia: BD lost by 10 wickets to england, but OZ also was in poor form.
BD beats SL 06: BD was bundled out for 118 days earlier. BD was in poor form.
thus we see that there is no definite correlation between our form or opponents form and our chance of winning. bottom line is form cannot be blamed or praised. our players need to do their job (what they are paid to do) and the rest will usually fall into place.
and of course a month is a long time to lose or gain form.
