In ODI taking wicket is not always the prime factor.

He bowled 10 overs, conceded just 31 runs and took 1 wicket. That's hundred times better than Tapash.

Todays match should solve the 3rd pacer riddle for good.

Agreed! But my point was that the opposition is Bermuda (with all respect) not India or Srilangka.

Yes, Rasel is the third seamer.

i think we should still open with tamim iqbal. shahriar nafees knows how to pace his innings. he starts out cautiously but can accelerate if needed. that's why we need someone that can hit the ball during the first few overs. with rajin or JO, that's not possible. if either of them open with SN, we'll have a slow run rate in the first few overs. with tamim it's hit or miss. if he clicks we'll get some runs. if he's out, then aftab can come in and hit the ball around the park.

With Canada, we need to keep an eye on Ashish Bagai and the Australian guy, forgot his name. He is going to be a hit and miss for Canada (as always). Still, we need to be a little careful given the history.

I'd say let's carry on with Tamim for the Canada match. Better yet, use it as a complete practice match and open with Tamim and Rajin. not too convined by our bowling performance. Masri needed some rest but it'll be great for him to get some wickets, same with Shahadat. Our spinners failed to impress against Bermuda, it is a huge worry. After all, we'll be taking on SL and India and they were born to play spin. :)

Yes Tamim should play in the tournament proper. But, he needs to curb his aggression a bit more and use his head. Its seems like he wants hit every ball for 4 or 6 and, therefore, never in control! How about getting his eye in first and score around 25 runs first? And then can go completely mental.

As for the link, as long as the matches are not in Zim, We all in BC will definitely find out something :)

This is a great win - exactly the way we needed to destroy Bermuda (not that high on bowling though, which I hope will be definitely stronger with Mashrafi and Rajiv in the squad). Whatever the issue is, we should go to the match against IND and SL with TI and AA on the top. We must need to take some risk to make it a day. If we have slight luck with us on those days, we have all chances to win at least one out of those two.

Again, congratulations and goodluck.

AsifTheManRahman

good win in the end. sakib was calm as usual, aftab was unlucky, and nafees played his natural game. tamim is still very young, and will need a lot of time to settle down in the international fold, and the flaws in his technique will be easily exploited by quality bowlers. technical flaws can obviously be overriden by a lot of other qualities such as good hand-eye coordination, decent judgement, etc, and i guess all that requires time. i'm not writing him off yet (he's only played three games so far), but i was always against picking him in the national team. now that he's in, i hope some of his heaves "laiga jaay". he was, after all, brought into the side to score quickly, as we need to pile up huge scores if we are to have any chances against india/sri lanka. ajkal to abar 300 korleo match jitar guarantee nai - haay rey, shukh nai rey pagol.

the bowling, however, was ordinary. the fact that we didn't play our best fast bowlers is no excuse for not being able to bundle bermuda out, and letting them go past 200. taposh seems to have lost it completely - he didn't fare too well in zimbabwe either. i was going to pick him as a fourth pacer anyways, but wasn't going to give him a game in the world cup, and i hope the selectors feel the same. as for rasel, i hope he can get better. he can really turn out to be a headache on a wet morning (how are the weather Gods over at the WI islands feeling lately?), as he has proven to be against sri lanka before.

Tamim Iqbal is a hitter and SN is a player with patient. In my opinion, i think its the combination right now even though TI is not doing that good and he'll get better time to time. He only played what 10 ODIs or so. If you look back to Pakistan's old opening, for example Syeed Anwar and Shahid Afridi where Afridi is a hitter and Anwar is player with patient. Give some time and TI will get better.....

These kind of games are good for padding stats for individual players.

For SN

1. Needs five more runs to hit 1500 ODI runs
2. 4th ODI hundred
3. Establishing his average 40+
4. Now 3rd in the team in total ODI run scored. Needs 17 runs to cross Ash (who is in second)
5. Establishing his SR @ 70+, which is good.

For Sakib
1. Another n.o. and thus with a 44 ave, highest among all current BD batsman in the team
2. Reached his 500 ODI runs.
3. A decent (if not spectacular) SR of 68. Next target is crossing the 70+
4. Turning out to be the building block of BD batting, specially playing after players like Tamim and Aftab.
5. Another decent serviceable bowling for ODI team.

For Aftab
1. As usual ....a good knock with excellent SR, but not good enough specially playing against weak team like Bermuda. I would be more than happy if he can score 40+ with a SR 148 against teams like India and Sri Lanka. That will take off the pressure from middle order for the rest of the innings.

Any way, except for Tamim, pretty happy with BD batting. Bowling was kind of below par, I was expecting more dominating performance by our bowlers.

al Furqaan
February 25, 2007, 11:33 PM
[continuing fazal's train of thought]...and aftab, is damn well capable of scoring 50 with SR of 150 against India and SL, which is why its so nice to see that SN and saqib can hold things down. because out of bashar, ash, and mushy at least a couple of them should fire (of course there will be those days when that trio combines for less than 20 runs - then we'll be screwed). this important because, i DO NOT see aftab scoring big anytime soon against ANY opposition weak or strong. he will be the guy who averages 30-35 with a astronomical SR. and that is fine by me (tho it does disservice to his talent) if saqib, SN, bash, ash, mash, and mush do even 80% their batting jobs.

layperson
February 25, 2007, 11:53 PM
I respectfully disagree with Al furqan on Aftab. I see him scoring big against big teams very soon and maybe even in the world cup. Mind you big right now would mean a 75 + score.

Hey Martin!, any explanation for this lack of coverage from the Caribbeans?

I expect you will not come up with reasons like...

And I was the villain when I had the row with MartinW over live coverage of the last BD-ZIM series. As far as I remember, a lot of BC senior members took his side, explained his side of the fiction and asked me to be more reasonable etc.

Now you can all see the real picture, finally.

:flag::flag::flag:
There's no need for explanation. Cricinfo is a business like TV channels. If the TV channels don't want to broadcast the matches between test playing nations and associates, then what wrong is CI doing by not providing live ball by ball score/commentary?

There is difference between matches among full members and matches with associates. ICC made the TV umpire optional for these matches. Last year the ODIs between Srilanka - Netherlands went unbroadcasted. In one of those matches Srilanka broke the record of highest ODI score, but no one got the chance to see it live.

BTV usually shows all home/overseas BD ODIs. They did not show the Scotland series, and they won't broadcast this series either. Only BTV, Tigercricket may have some kind of obligation (if any) to provide live broadcast/score update.

And you can't treat matches at Zim to matches at any other test playing nations. As a journalist it is not easy to get in to Zimbabwe and you must recognize that. Fact is what we see. The waves of rebellion is a fact. The current players forcefully signing in a contract that everyone would laugh at or face banishment from the WC team is a fact. ZC boss making tons of money is a fact. Not getting a visa as a journalist without paying bribe is a fact.

What did you say when you couldn't watch the matches against Scottland? Hope you didn't redicule CI for that.

Yes, at times I also have issues with CI's some of the articles, but that is not an ICC sponsered site and they have every right to pick and choose any game they wish to cover. One can ignore that site and not visit if he/she chooses.
