View Full Version : Who Wants to Open World Cup Threads

Rubu
February 26, 2007, 09:38 AM
We all know it is a huge honor and we all want to open them. However, there is only 3 threads possible (unless, good willing, we go to the 2nd round). As for these three matches, we will go with a lottery system to find out the 3 lucky persons who can open these threads.

First off, this is how the lottery will work. To ensure a fair lottery, I have come up with this idea, and I think its full proof, but if anyone can find a flaw with the system, let me know.

Rules:
Everyone who wants to open the threads will have to post a message saying they are interested in opening the threads.
At a 'first come first serve' basis, everyone will be given a number. So, the first person posts gets 1, 2nd person 2 and so on. I'll update a post here with everyone's current number. This is your entry number(N). Lets say there is a total of X number of persons.
Once we have this X, we will use their join date and add them to get a number, call it Y. If someone joined on Feb 21st, 2007 the join date will be 21.
Now, all you have to do to find the winner is to devide Y by (X+1). The remained value will be a number from 1 to X. If this number(W) is your entry number, you get the honor of opening the first thread.
If you know programming, it is like this: W = MOD(Y, X+1)
If W = N for you, you win the first game thread.
If W = N - 1 for you, you win the 2nd game.
If W = N + 1 for you, you win the 3rd game.
N - 2 is the reserve for game 1
N + 2 is the reserve for game 2
N - 3 is the reserve for game 3
The number N is circular. Meaning, if the last entry person wins by lottery, N + 1 will be 1.Confused? An example will make it clear: say there is a total of 19 people. This is X. You add their join dates. It becomes 1017 (Y). X + 1 is 20. So if you divide 1017 by 20, you get a remain of 17. So, who ever has the 17th entry wins. 16th person opens the 2nd game and 18th person the 3rd game. The reserves are there so that if the winner is not present within a given time frame, the reserve can open it.

Regulations:
No one joined after this post's time stamp can open the thread.
The person has to be a regular here so that if you win, you are here to open.
Winner has to pledge his/her presence at the given time frame and open the thread. Fail to do so will make the reserve open the thread (so reserve stay tuned).
You have to submit the thread to a mod/staff for review before posting it to ensure the quality. We suggest you use a template from the previous threads.
WC match thread opened by anyone else except for the winners will be deleted.
Non-Bangladeshis can open threads but the tone of the thread has to support Bangladesh. Promoting any other country's support in the opening post will not be permitted.
All decision by the mods/staff are final.
Any more regulation can be added here by any mod/staff if complication arises.Time Frame:
The last date to post a entry is March 14th 2007 12:00:00 GMT.
Anyone can calculate the lottery after that using the formula above, still a staff/mod will post the name of the winners and reserves.
Each match thread can be open no sooner than 24 Hours and no latter than 12 hours before the game start time (13:30 GMT).
If winner fails to open it within this 12 hours time frame, reserve will be notified, and reserve will have 6 hours to open the thread. If reserve is also unavailable, a mod/staff will open the thread.
You can submit your thread for review anytime before your time frame to open it.

Damn so complicated. I will pass. :)

Its not complicated on users part, is it? All they have to do is post their name and if they win, open the thread on time. You guys do not need to bother about calculation or anything else. Still, any suggestion on how to make it simpler? I could not find another way to make it a fair and clear lottery.

if it is a lottery then why bother adding subtracting. Ask Zunaid, Chinaman, Mahmood, Tehsin to do the honors. We all would accept their judgement as we all do.

man it's too complicated.. LOL

what if someone, who doesn't really care about opening the thread enters to mess it up for someone else...eishob pechla formula buzi na...

Count me in though... and let a computer pick.

by the way, this is pretty efficient though.. if you think about it..... mods can not cheat!

Rubu
February 26, 2007, 11:08 AM
Once again, this is not complicated for users.

All you have to do is put your name as interested and wait to see if you win. You will be notified if you win.
Count me in though... and let a computer pick.
How would you do that? What if I say, this_guy won, and I used a computer? You have no way to know do you? This is pure luck for you.

As per someone else joining to ruin someone else, its all part of the game, and I think if someone joins, they will join to win not to ruin someone else, and that is what make it a lottery. You don't know who will join and what their join date is. And since new registers since today is not allowed to enter here, no one can create a new account to temper the result.

And, I have not added spitty and Miraz yet as they have not express the interest in joining the game.

If we go with whoever opens first, people will open now for the next month's WC. Take it as a game to spice up the start of WC.

It will be nice if you reveal the calculations when you pick the winner, just to clarify how you did it.

Now, Rubu is it official?

We have already seen another proposal by Shafin in this thread

<!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: navbar_link --> WC match threads proposal. (http://www.banglacricket.com/alochona/showthread.php?t=18644)

I think Moderators/Administrators should take one official decision as someone might come up with another different idea. :)

Too many people competing for just 3 match thread slots?
Take resort to the concepts of commercialization!!
Divide match threads into as many parts as necessary and make everyone happy!!:)

For example:

Bangladesh vs. India: Pre-Game Match Thread
(All Discussions before the start of the match will take place here)

Bangladesh vs. India: Bangladesh Innings Match Thread
(All Discussions during Bangladesh Innings will take place here)

Bangladesh vs. India: Innings Break Match Thread
(All Discussions during the lunch break will take place here)

Bangladesh vs. India: India Innings Match Thread
(All Discussions during India Innings will take place here)

Bangladesh vs. India: Post-Game Match Thread
(All Discussions after the end of the match will take place here)

If still there are “customers” wanting to open match threads, make them happy too.
Just tear apart the match thread by over quota!!
And at the end of the match, merge all threads together- and there you go: You got yourself a traditional match thread with many happy "customers"!!

Equal Opportunity Match Thread, Pursuit of Happiness, Commercialization, Globalization—put everything in the same bowl and then [বাংলা] দাও ঘুটা-ঘুটা-ঘুটা !![/বাংলা]:)

Tigers_eye
February 26, 2007, 12:00 PM
over quota can only give 5 chances per innings Babubhai. How about wickets fall? that doubles the chances when BD is batting. And if someone threatens that by playing a huge knock, then in every semi-quarter-half-century a new thread starter will emerge.

How about excluding the pros like Miraz, Spitfire etc out of the contest and have them as part of an elite expert panel to help newbies open match thread? This way, the experts get acknowledgment (in the signature or somewhere in the post) and pleasure of designing it, a good match thread is ensured and newbies get their first lesson on "how to open a match thread: the essentials".

It would be an honor to open match thread in BC for one of our WC matches, however, I sure will need help.

IMO, either it should be open for everyone like previous matches involving Bangladesh or its should be reserved for Banglacricket Management.

I fully endorse the proposal.

I have a proposal...

What about the winning percentage of match thread openers so far??
We need to find the number and the percentage of of winning margin of match thread openers so far...and the person with the highest percentile of wins should open the match on the all important against the eendians...

failure to report to open the thread by the 14th.. the second person would get the chance...

qualification of entry: person has to open at least 5 match threads...
someone who has opened only 1 and won the game might have a 100% record..but it doesnt count..

oh damn...that leaves me out of the question..i've opened only one test match thread... ( BD-Eng, 1st Test, 2005 at Lords)..and we lost the game by huge margin...
so im not going anywhere round that place...

Also, this way, the organizer can also join and no one will think I'm cheating. As I wish to add my name there as well.

I have the term Final Exam right at the WC time,so I'm a bit inactive now.
