Here, I have done some prematch homework. Hope you guys would enjoy. Nasif Bhaia could you please embed this youtube on my post. :) Thanks in advance.

Indian's fearsome bowling attack:
Zaheer and Agarkar would be the main strike bowler. The third seamer would be either Pathan or Munaf patel. Pathan has bowling speed now of lightening speed of 115 - 125k. Way to go Pathan. And for Munaf watch the video and enjoy :)

I have not seen Pathan bowl for a while but I think our batters have an issue with left arm fast bowlers. Pathan swings the ball as well so I would consider him to be more dangerous than the other bowlers. I hope he sits out the match against us. However we now have left handed batsmen to tackle him too.
The other bowlers will be murdered by Aftab for sure. Go bangladesh. :flag: :flag:

I'm getting adrenaline rush constantly!

Ha ha. Be cool man. I know everyone is highly excited about this game and eagerly waiting to see BD team as a winner. But we have to remember that India is a very good team and to crush India is not an easy job. BD has to try his 110% to achieve the win. SO be relax and be cool...don't be so upset in one defeat...it is not a war...just like another game. If 2007 is not ours...2011 should be our year. I am waiting for that. Be happy and enjoy. :flag:

I will record the match highlights most probably. But sadly I have no internet right at this moment but tomorrow I should be connected at last. So I will upload the files in the BC server depending on when I get the broadband connection. Stay in touch.

I believe we should lower our expecatations a little low. Too much dreaming is not good, be realistic Ind had more preparation than us and also their players are more sensible than our players. If all of our player clicks then we can do something, otherwise expect a regular result.

Everything seems so meaningless all of a sudden. All the trash talk and hype.

May be there is a lesson to learn from this for all of us. CTG must look in to the infra structure of BD. The inter city roads are just horrible death traps for motorist and others.

Come to think of it, now I see the upside of selecting JO in the 15 instead of Forhad. As a senior player he may be able to calm down the younger players a little.

we really need to put a strong strong fight tomorrow, I have seen how players make silly mistakes in this world cup so far and going back to the dressing room, not because of some great bowling but because who know what they were thinking when they played the shot.

AB de Villiers today got out first ball of a delivery way outside the stumps only to give a catch. Our batsmen need to make sure they do not do these types of mistakes that will easily cause us to lose the match.

Our batsmen have to make big runs otherwise we are doomed.

As much as i hope that I am not banned but i have respect for the rules here and i to a certain extent deserve to be punished for the racist remark. At the same time I personally resent the big brother attitude of all p'tanis and Indians alike. The simple fact is that no matter how much I want to forget and forgive one cannot clearly want us to forget abt wat u people as a nation did to us during 71 ( and i am almost over sure that u don even know the history properly). At the same time i also recognise the fact that one person cannot be blamed for someone elses deeds.

For once, hyperbole like "this is the most important match in the history of Bangladesh cricket so far" is indeed correct.

First, clear blue water has emerged between us and the less established nations.

Second, the test match against Australia and the one day series against Sri Lanka in 2006 showed we are getting closer to the Big 8.

Finally, India's more or less pronounced reluctance to play Bangladesh [ as if we are not good enough for them ] is irksome to any Bangladeshi. Whilst we would savour victory against any of the Top 8, against India in this context would be very sweet indeed.

This is not the time to criticise the squad selection. But clearly the strongest 11 appears to have been selected from the 15. I am particularly happy that it looks like Rasel has finally been selected. Tapash would be too expensive.

I just hope young Mushfiq does not miss a stumping or two under pressure !!

The odds are running at Bangladesh 7/1 , India 1/7. Far cry from the 33/1 days.

God Speed Bangladesh !!

I am confident we will win ofcourse by we i mean India.

Doesnt matter who wins the toss India is batting first. Bangladesh is comforable chasing and Dravid will want to set a target since Bangladesh had decided to go the spin route.

Ganguly will give respect to bowlers for a couple of overs and then score freely. Uthappa if he lasts till 8 over would ensure we have an explosive start. I feel India will target a score of 275-280 and if we get it then in my opinion it would be 40+ runs to many.

After India had recovered from an early breakthrough by Murtaza and Rasel, the Bangladesh spinning troika has put the brakes on India’s progress. Rafique is bowling to Tendulkar. Suddenly, there is commotion amongst the crowd. The majority Indian element heave a sigh of relief.
It appears young Mushfiq has missed a difficult stumping chance down the leg side. I wake up in a cold sweat !
Thank God ! It is only a nightmare. But I hope the decision to drop Mashud does not come to haunt us !
I am no great fan of Mashud, or, for that matter of Bashar, Omar & co. But the time for experienced cricketers to retire or be replaced is just after a World Cup. Like McGrath. Warne retired out of one dayers some time back.
There is no doubt young Mushfiq does bring an extra dimension in batting. As the Zimbabwe tour showed, it looks as if there is a strategy , that if there is appreciable movement with the ball in the beginning of an innings , and Bangladesh lose a wicket early on, Mushfiq could come in ahead of Aftab to steady the boat.
However, any objective assessment would reveal that this is the strongest Bangladesh team ever. Notwithstanding, the recent runaway success have been against the minnows. It should not be forgottten that it was exactly these minnows who used to beat us regularly. Kenya had a 7-1 lead. Canada beat us comprehensively. In 2003, we realistically could not hope to beat any of the Top 8, even after the debatable win against Pakistan in 1999. After all, in the intervening years, we did not beat anyone. In the last two years, we have beaten Australia and Sri Lanka discounting the recent warm up win against New Zealand. Even the betting odds are shorter !
The opening bowling can cause difficulty to any team in the opening overs. Murtaza with his line and Rasel with his swing. But the strength of the Bangladesh attack lies in their spinners. I still have an open mind regarding Sakib but Razzaq has now proven that he is a class act. Probably, even better than the old warhorse Rafique. If we manage a couple of early wickets, it might be a good idea to slip in some overs from Aftab too.
What whets my appetite is to see our spinners against the mighty Indians with all their reputation against spin. We will see !
Tamim is new and unproven. But starting out with two left handers is good thinking. Remember, Vaas, Collins, Pathan , Franklin. Yes, but they were all against right handers ! Somehow, it does not seem so lethal against the left handers. Aftab could be our match winner. I do not feel entirely comfortable with his attitude. But I also recognise that against a top 8 side we have to do something extra to win. An Aftab blitzkreig might just be what the doctor ordered ! If he can hang around for 20 overs, he could win a match for us. Thepowerplays are crucial to our success.
Bashar worries me with his fitness. Precisely, because he will bat during the consolidation phase when rotation is the name of the game. His running has always been poor but more so in recent times.
Thankfully, Ashraful is beginning to show better form at last. We all know what he can do on his day. I hope this is his day. Coming in at No.6, he effectively has become our Afridi. As long as we have some wickets in hand, Rafique and Murtaza can create mayhem with the bat. Only, Rasel is a bunny !
For me, the result depends on how our spinners tie down and frustrate their batsmen. Whilst, the wily Tendulkar and the experienced Dravid and Ganguly may have seen all this before, I am not sure how Dhoni & co. will react if they cannot play their natural game. India’s batting is formidable but this is the most balanced Bangladesh attack yet ! Believe it or not, two Bangladeshis Razzaq and Murtaza are 11th and 12th in the one day rankings just ahead of Harbhajan and Agarkar – one of whom may not even play. Rafique is 18th ahead of Pathan at 22, mainly because of exploits more than a year ago. Zaheer trails at No. 26.
Three Indian batsmen come in above the highest ranking Bangladeshi, Nafees, who is 17th. Actually, Tendulkar comes in just below at No. 20. Sehwag going south on 36th is just above Aftab who is rising fast.
Roll on tomorrow !

Saab_rn my pleasure to see an indian cricket fan in Ind vs Ban cricket match. Welcome to BC :big_hug: and enjoy your stay. Hopefully you will be here tomorrow and share the momemnt with us. India wary of banana skins on batting track

The Preview by Siddhartha Vaidyanathan

March 16, 2007

India might opt for only one spinner in their World Cup opener against Bangladesh © AFP

After months and months of hype, hype, and more hype - a build-up of such epic proportions that one spectator was willing to donate his kidney to watch this bunch play the World Cup - India begin their campaign on Saturday against their neighbours Bangladesh at Port-of-Spain. Pre-tournament predictions pointed to a slow, low surface at the Queens Park Oval and, while Sri Lanka's demolition of Bermuda pretty much indicated a good batting surface, India will be aware of the banana skins Bangladesh can strew along their path.

A peek into Bangladesh's memorable one-day moments will lead you to Northampton, Cardiff, Dhaka and Bogra, venues where they've upset major opposition. Sneaking through as a footnote will be Kingstown in St Vincent in their first one-dayer in Caribbean soil. They summoned only 144 but defended it admirably, getting within a wicket of pulling off a mighty upset.

Starring in that commendable defence was a left-arm spin bowler, Manjural Islam Rana, whose death in an accident on Friday shocked the cricketing world. At 22 he was Test cricket's youngest casualty in the modern era, an event that plunged Bangladesh's national squad into mourning on the eve of their World Cup opener. "All the boys are really shocked and upset," revealed Bangladesh's captain Habibul Bashar at the pre-game press conference. "Some of them also cried because he was very close to us. It is very sad news."

Bangladesh will walk out in black arm-bands tomorrow in one of the few opening-round games that has the ability to produce an upset. The two teams have never met in a World Cup match and India will be treading with caution. "We haven't played them for a couple of years, which is something we have discussed", Rahul Dravid, India's captain, said on Friday . "We don't really know them, some of their more experienced players have been dropped, they have got a pretty young side.

"We have looked through a lot of video footage of their current players, we have discussed a lot of their players, the way they bat and the way they bowl. They have shown in the last few months that they are closer to the top eight teams in the tournament rather than to the minnows. That wasn't the case in the last World Cup, where they were closer to the other bunch. But yeah, we respect them, they have shown that they can play really well."

Dravid brushed off notions of a billion expectations, adding that the team was more keen on fulfilling their own. "I think it's a great opportunity, a chance to make a lot of people happy," he said. "At the end of the day, the boys can only try their best. What is more important is our own expectations - we should not let ourselves down. We have to go out there and do the best for ourselves and the team. If we can do that, then people will be satisfied. At the end of the day, yes they want us to win, but more importantly they want us to be good representatives of our country and do or best."

Dravid said they'd decided their XI but added that he'd rather not reveal the side. "We'd just like the opposition to spend a little more time in their team meeting, discussing 15 names rather that just 11 or 12. But we know what we are going to play and are comfortable with that."

Picking India's first ten might be pretty straight-forward - seven batsman one spinner, three fast bowlers - but the final slot, a likely toss-up between Irfan Pathan and Robin Uthappa, might have caused some furrowed brows. A shock option at the top of the order or a tried and tested [and currently tepid] allrounder lower down? A sell-out Queens Park Oval crowd, with tremendous Indian flavour, is set to find out at 9 a.m. tomorrow when the captains go out for the toss.

Teams

India (likely) 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Sourav Ganguly, 3 Sachin Tendulkar, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Rahul Dravid (capt), 6 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), 7 Irfan Pathan, 8 Ajit Agarkar, 9 Harbhajan Singh, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 Munaf Patel

Bangladesh (likely) 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Shahriar Nafees, 3 Aftab Ahmed, 4 Saqibul Hasan, 5 Habibul Bashar (capt), 6 Mohammad Ashraful, 7 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 8 Mohammad Rafique, 9 Mashrafe Mortaza, 10 Abdur Razzak, 11 Shahadat Hossain

Bangladesh name 12: Team to show respect to Manzarul Rana
TigerCricket.com Report from Port of Spain
16-March-2007

Bangladesh have named 12 players for their ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 opener against India tomorrow (Saturday).

Opener Javed Omer, batsman Rajin Saleh and fast bowler Shahadat Hossain Rajib have been left out of the side.

The team will train today afternoon at the Queen’s Park Oval here, the venue for tomorrow’s match. This will be the Tigers’ first practice session at the Oval.

The day began on a sombre note for the Bangladesh team with the news that 22-year-old all-rounder Manzarul Islam Rana had been killed in a road accident back home in Khulna along with another First Class cricketer Sajjadul Setu.

“It is a terribly distressing news and we don’t have words to express our shock and grief. The players are absolutely stunned. Our heart goes out to Rana’s family and may the Almighty grant his soul eternal peace,” said skipper Habibul Bashar.

“If we do something good in this World Cup we will dedicate that to Rana,” added Bashar.

Bashar also expressed his grief at the sad demise of Setu who was on the back seat of the same motorbike Rana was riding.

“It is a great loss for our cricket. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Setu’s young family,” said Bashar.

The Bangladesh team has decided to wear black arm bands during tomorrow’s match to show their respect to Rana who appeared in six Test matches and 25 ODIs for the country.

Bangladesh squad
Habibul Bashar (Captain), Shahriar Nafees Ahmed (VC), Tamim Iqbal Khan, Aftab Ahmed, Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Ashraful, Mushfiqur Rahim (WK), Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mohammed Rafique, Abdur Razzak, Syed Rasel, Tapash Baishya.

Heres another one:
Five areas where Bangladesh can threaten India

Minnow menace

The form-book, the seedings and conventional wisdom suggest India will walk off with both points from this match. Siddhartha Vaidyanathan offers five reasons why it may not be so easy

Bashar the glue With three half-centuries against India, Habibul Bashar has often stood alone amid the disappointing batting efforts. All three fifties have come in losing causes but Bashar's calm presence is often reassuring. He can hold the middle order together, sealing up one end as his more flashy colleagues take on the bowling at the other. He's no slouch, though, well capable of stepping it up when the situation demands.

Shock power Floating around Bashar are a group of dangerous batsmen, often veering from the sublime to the ridiculous but one heck of a threat when they come off. India don't need any introduction to Mohammad Ashraful, not after Chittagong in 2004; neither do they need to be reminded of Aftab Ahmed's powers, not after Dhaka in 2004. Then there's Shahriar Nafees, who's opening exploits include a Test hundred against Australia, Tamim Iqbal and Saqibul Hasan. All are young batsmen in a similar mould, all with oodles of promise.

New-ball variety In Mashrafe Mortaza and Shahadat Hossain, Bangladesh possess a more than handy new-ball pairing to hustle the best. Mortaza's skiddy cutters will be complemented by Shahadat's discomforting bounce, a prospect that could unsettle the best. India will remember Mortaza's contribution on Boxing Day in 2004, when he winkled out Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to help Bangladesh record their first (and only) triumph against India. Mashrafe has also chipped in with the bat, in the two games against India, and his recent exploits in the warm-up match against New Zealand suggest a handy allround talent. Shahadat is yet to play against India but nine wickets in two Tests against Sri Lanka translates into a dangerous talent.

Left-arm menace Rahul Dravid feels this World Cup will be won by the team that manages the middle overs best. India are likely to face a slew of left-arm spinners in that period, with Mohammad Rafique's darts complemented by Abdur Razzak's loop and Saqibul's accuracy. Razzak and Saqibul arrive with economy-rates of 3.5 and 3.7 respectively and India will need to find innovative ways to manoeuvre the ball around with the field spread.

More youth, more agility Bangladesh enter the game with a head-start in the fielding department. Aftab, Ashraful and Saqibul will form an agile inner circle and their enthusiasm could be infectious. India's main worry has been the ageing nature of the side (Dravid even indicated that they'd need to hide a few fielders) and an efficient performance from Bangladesh would enable them to bridge the gulf. A couple of lucky breaks and they will dream bigger.

that was a personal attack i presume.

Neways as i said before that i am willing to accept any punishment for the racist remarks. I understand that wat i said was not right and i really feel sorry that miraz bhai had to apologise.
I don call myself a huge patriot either. However i do love and feel for my country, I feel for people who lost their lives in brutal manner during our independence. The last place i want to see a pakistani logo is inside a BANGLAcricket forum, it was just my way of saying it ( definately not the right way). I hate the fact that people carry pakistani flags in cricket matches held in Dhaka. I even dont watch those matches. That is the kind of pain i feel.
However I do understand that most of u do not feel the same way ( thats good tho), but i cant help myself. If i am punished so be it. But i am happy he is gone.
By the way on his last post he himself called himself with the offensive word. although i see that got edited. Neways Sorry to all the readers of the forum, I apologise for bringing up a topic that doesnt belong to this thread.

Cannot wait anymore. Will get up 6:30am for Fajr prayer and will not go to sleep. Game starts 8:30am CST. Bhaiyera amar please make doa as much as you can and Insha Allah our boys will play for RANA and dedicate the win to him.

Tapash is not selected yet, but even if he is, its because his ability with the Bat is better than Rajib.

Rajib had to play ahead of Tapash, but hopefully they will keep Rasel and hopefully it is a turning pitch!

Here is the game plan for Indian batsmen according to Bashar. I was looking for this for somedays to discuss with you guys. This was from P-Alo in Bashar's column in the form of his own writing. Do you have any comments on it? Do you think this may work out against India?

Virender Sehwag: He is out of form for the time being. But always a dangerous batsman. When he starts playing, it becomes really difficult to set the fielding. He finds it difficult if you bowl wicket to wicket and swings a bit inside. This would be our goal: don’t give him any room.<O:p</O:p
<O:p
Robin Utthapa: We couldn’t see his games much. But he seems to be an attacking player. Like other batsmen, he has also problem with balls in the off-stump corridor. Our bowlers will keep that in mind.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Sourav Ganguly: He has the most resound comeback. Dada is also enjoying his newfound form. On his day, he scores the bulk. Although his weakness against bouncers is much talked, he is also good at short balls without a real pace. We would have to bowl out side the off-stump nonetheless.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Sachin Tendulkar: There’s nothing to say about Tedulkar. Allround player. Hard to find his weakness. We would try to prevent him from taking quick runs. He dominates the bowling; so, if we can restrict him, he may do something wrong out of his frustration.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Rahul Dravid: another allround player. Only weakness against the inswingers in his early innings. Once set, it is difficult to remove him. <O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Yuvraj Singh: He is the most dangerous batsmen in the Indian squad. Powerful striker of the ball. Scores quickly with his orthodox shots. It would be hard test for our SLAs because he is a lefty too. He becomes frustrated, if he is not allowed to play strokes. So, we would try to restrict him.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Mahendra Singh Dhoni: Goes for the big hits. Strong on the leg side. We will try to bowl so that he can’t swing his bat.

Isnt it a long list?

liked Bashar's comment:
"We have done well in recent past but then we never played a big team in year 2006. As we play against India, we realize they have a number of superstars. We have none. But we want to play as a unit with significant contributions coming from each and everyone rather than a couple of individuals."

Updae from CricInfo. Do you think it's an easy pick? I think they'll go with Irfan Pathan, simply because of his experience.
Picking India's first ten might be pretty straight-forward - seven batsman one spinner, three fast bowlers - but the final slot, a likely toss-up between Irfan Pathan and Robin Uthappa, might have caused some furrowed brows. A shock option at the top of the order or a tried and tested (and currently tepid) allrounder lower down?

Also, latest photo on CricInfo from practice session.

I hope they dont go with Pathan. I saw him bowl earlier and he is deadly with the new ball, swings it both ways. Doesnt matter if the man is out of form. He has the ability to wreak havoc in the BD batting order. He is the only bowler I am worried about in the Indian line up. The rest our batsman can take care of with relative ease. Take uththapa we have the bowling to get their batsmen out.

Bangladesh goes into its most important one day match yet with the gap between itself and its giant neighbour rapidly closing.

If Bangladesh and India were an individual player then today each would have the following rating / ranking

Batting Bowling

India 633 [ 26 ] 600 [ 23 ]

Bangladesh 544 [ 48 ] 573 [ 30 ]

This shows that Bangladesh's strength is in its bowling, something which we kind of knew already.

Below I have done a simple analysis of each teams batting and bowling ratings.
I specifically chose Ratings as opposed to Rankings or Averages for the following reasons.

Rankings only display the current hierarchy. It does not say how much better or worse.

Averages show the historical achievement of the player. But takes no account of the opposing side.

Ratings show the current hierarchy. But it takes into account, maybe not to everyone's satisfaction, the opposing sides strength when the games took place.

India's strength is, undoubtedly, its formidable batting. These are the current ratings:

Dhoni 779
Dravid 704
Yuvraj 680
Tendulkar 666
Sehwag 607
Ganguly 519
Pathan 478

Total = 4433 Average = 633.29 [ Equivalent Ranking No. 26 ]

Relatively speaking , they are not miles ahead of Bangladesh in the bowling department.

Harbhajan 656
Agarkar 639
Pathan 603
Zaheer 588
Patel 516

Total = 3002 Average = 600.40 [ Equivalent Ranking No. 23 ]

Our batting has improved dramatically. Nafees Aftab and Saqib have overtaken Bashar and Ashraful.

Nafees 679
Aftab 588
Saqib 514
Bashar 472
Ashraful 468

Total = 2721 Average = 544.20 [ Equivalent Ranking No. 48 ]

With three bowlers above the psychologically important 600 mark, Bangladesh bowling have arrived.

Razzaq 666
Murtaza 661
Rafique 626
Saqib 480
Rasel 431

Total = 2864 Average = 572.80 [ Equivalent Ranking No. 30 ]

Only hours to go, clearly, India are favourites but not by a big margin !!

After looking at so many articles and looking at the odds .

It doesn't give a chance for Bangladesh to win this match against India today .

So , I am going to sleep now .

Good Luck guys ........

Yeah take the field and give them the chance to score over 300+ :) , Look at Australia they batted first against Scotland & still made a meal out of the pitch........

Your More Pessimistic than SS, which team are you rooting for? When you wake up it's going to be because of a loud Roar from 300 Million Bangladeshis in about 8 hours

If I think logically I feel that we will do pretty bad today. The reason being Rana. I know most of you are taking about turning sorrow to motivation, but that takes time. Its too early to recover from such a huge blow. But that would definitely be the case against SL, as we will have time to go over the initial shock and sorrow.

So, don't be demoralized if we lose cheaply today, we will bounce back.

indians have left out Pathan, Kartik, Sreesanth & Kumble;
Believe me KUMBLE is my danger man in the indian ranks..

But they are clearly scared of our bowling

so they`ve gone for an extra batsman in Uthappa...

Outswinger, bro, you got me all wrong. Its not blaming, its human nature. In deep sadness and sorrow, people are not able to function the way they normally do. I would be feeling much better today if I could really blame someone. Only one I could blame is luck (damn, only if he would have an helmet, even the one he used for playing) and road system in Bangladesh.

Just forget the past & play the positive cricket with positive attitude .

Just don't blame on the road system caz they were riding the bike very fast as well with a great mood caz they just won the match . It might be their fault too by riding the bike that fast & hitting an Ambulance , which is an emergency vehicle as well .

I will be off to kmasum and his friends to watch the game together and probably will not have internet there. So, this is probably my last post until I come back. I think I will feeling better staying with other fans than alone.

Good help us all today. Specially Rana's family and friends and fellow tigers.

WE JUST WANT 2 WIN...

we are not over-confident. Bangladesh have gained strength over the years under worthy guidance of Dav Whatmore. winning has become part of our habit. give any team... we can give them a run for their money.

WHY NOT INDIA?

I don't know the exact situation for sure, but when an ambulance is in duty it will have siren. I can't believe someone will be hitting an ambulance if heard the siren. Even more, the ambulance did not stop after the accident. so much so far emergency vehicle.

Just forget the past & play the positive cricket with positive attitude . Its so much easy to say that when you are not somehow attached. Its like reading 30 dead in a bus accident at place A. but for those players, they have just lost a close buddy. Not that easy.
