View Full Version : SL vs Ireland: Match thread

Well Murali is back.
SL won the toss and put Ireland to bat. It was music to the Irish captain's ears cause he wanted to bat first. They think they can beat SL. Good luck to both teams.

Tigers_eye

1st over of Maharoof was expensive 8 runs in first two balls. Yet he had 3 wickets in the last 4. There was a dot ball and thus missed a hattrick.
Ireland 34/3 in 9.2 overs.

I want to see Ireland crushed. Is that soo wrong?

No. That is what we should wish for. If IRE losses badly, their RR will go down and that opens up a possibility for us to finish 7th. And that means, not only getting placed better in the table but also 50000 bucks, the prize money.

radagast
April 18, 2007, 09:34 AM
Yeah, SL helped us out before too. Common Sri, Common 7th place . :(

Yeah, SL helped us out before too. Common Sri, Common 7th place . :(

We have got a very good chance to become 6th. WI is completely in HaZaBaRaLa state and if (and a very very big if) we can play to our potential, they can be beaten.

Tigers_eye

Doesn't matter what SL does to Ireland.

We will win against WI (Inshallah) and be sixth in the super eight.

Cricinfo commentators are up again sensing a no contest. (Murali is yet to come)

SL can, yet again, reward bangladesh something from this game. If they crush Ireland by a big RR, Bangladesh will be placed 7th, and even if Bangladesh lose to WI but keeps a good RR, we can still finish 7th. Given the status of the team, I would not dare a win against WI, so this is our best chance. SL already helped us out with 8th place, now they can make us 7th as well.

Now you might say, whats so big about finishing 7th?

Not be at the bottom of the table,

and cash prize (if I'm not wrong, 7th get twice as much as 8th)

I know what Jayasuirya is thinking. Damn it! I can't get a fifty today. Where is Tharanga. I need to have a chat with him on how to approach the game. I might still have a chance. However, the Irish bowlers may not allow that. Heard they bowl few extras every game.

Very good sign. If they are all-out within 60/70 and Sri Lanka gets those runs in 10 overs, their NRR will drop to -1.5. If BD loses to WI by a very low margin, we still have the chance of a better RR (currently -1.435)

Jeremy Bray: New South Wales
Dave Langford-Smith: New South Wales

20+ run in last partnership ...not sure how much it affected the run rate.
.05 on their RR.
NRR would depend on How many overs SL reaches 57 and then how many overs they take to reach 77.
Guessing if SL reaches 57 in 10 overs and finishes off in 15 overs, that extra 20 runs would let Ireland gain .07 which is nothing.

If SL can finish off in 15 overs then the NRR for Ireland would be -1.63. If in 10 overs then -1.72.

I expect something in between.

Hope the best……….but mentally prepare for the worst too! I had enough distress with the last game; it’s not the loss….it’s the way BD lost so casually to IRE was shocking…..……… still fresh in my mind! …………But again, BD is still in WC & playing the 6th last game of the WC is huge achievement……….& thanks for letting me dream beyond my imaginations!
