Toss Ricky Ponting opts to bat.

Team changes Big news is that Shane Bond will miss the game. Jacob Oram has already been ruled out. Mark Gillespie and Michael Mason get a look in.

Pitch report: It looks a pretty good batting track. Damien Fleming reckons change of pace will be key for the bowlers.

35 overs there are already 12 extra balls by the NZ.
Against us 48.3 overs 2 extra balls.

This should show how much focused the bowlers were against us. This match is just a practice match for them.

Tamim and Ashraful should look carefully at how Ponting and Hayden built their innings early on - they played their shots when the PowerPlays were on in the first 10, then they basically rotated the strike and only hit the occasional risky shot for the next 10 or so overs. Neither took many risks getting to their 50s, yet still scored at a run a ball, and it was only when he was nearing his ton that Haydunce started to really cut loose.

4-245 now with 37 overs gone. Should get at least 300 unless they totally stuff it up.

sandpiper

it would be a daunting task to break the 26 match unbeaten streak of Australia in World Cup. Aussies would try to enter semi final with a high morale.

allrounder
April 20, 2007, 11:45 AM
Australian middle order is not looking good, when given the task to post runs. They might be good in chasing down target given the top orders already chased most of the runs. now the top posted a big score for them but they have slowed down and what could have been a mammoth total now will be a challenging one.

allrounder
April 20, 2007, 11:52 AM
Australian middle order is pathetic, they should have dropped Hussey and picked Hodge.

OZGOD
April 20, 2007, 12:22 PM
Watson has gone mental, 65 off 32, Hussey steadier at 37 off 44.

51 off the last 3 overs from Hussey and Watto.

OZ finish on 6-348. It's a decent target and NZ will have to play well to run it down.

allrounder
April 20, 2007, 12:24 PM
Watson just save australia, hussey is no good to be in WC, it should be Brad Hodge out there. Today they had the chance to score 500 runs and hussey ruined it.

Hussey is a more versatile player than Stodge though. He just needs a bit of time in the middle, which he got today. It's pretty hard to score 400 runs, let alone 500, particularly against a decent attack. The chance to score 400 was gone long before Hussey came to the crease - the loss of Ponting, Hayden and Clarke's wickets slowed the run rate down.

Australians are monsters.

Check out their scores against the big boys (title hopefuls) NZ, SL, SA. But I still think their bowlers are weak (than 2003). Opponents can target that. Why can't hayden retire now? he already got the highest runs for this tournament. Give it a rest, please.

I have been watching the Australian batting for a while. Also the way their batsmen grip the bat. Chucking and Controversial moves from Australian team has ended a lot of promising bowlers' careers. My point is is their any questioning about the bat that Australian batsmen are using in the World Cup. I know few Australian fans will just rush on saying me "wat r u talking abt mate? etc. etc." But still ICC needs to look into that. There should not be an easy ride for everything.

Moreover if those bats are so good BCB should look into to buy some and let our players try them.

I'm very concerned at the fact that we haven't had any hard games leading up to the semifinals - I would have preferred a tight, pressure-packed match where NZ might have given our bowlers a bit of a workout, instead of capitulating the way they did. Our bowling attack has hardly been tested in this WC, except by SA in the first 20 overs at St Kitts. Then SL hid Murali and Vaas so they wouldn't be traumatised and so they would have an excuse for the loss, which robbed us of the chance to play their best side.

Still, we can only play who's in front of us.
