View Full Version : England v/s West Indies.

Its not only pride that these two teams will play for. The 5th place is also at stake, not to forget the cash waiting for the Country that will win this one. Moreover, England will want to win it for Duncan Fletcher. For West Indies - one name has been synonymous with the Team West Indies - Brian Lara. Last match as ODI captain of the team, but more importantly for him its the last ODI match he will play. He will want to leave behind with beautiful memories and what better way to leave, after taking your team to victory. Best of luck to both the teams.

Guard of honour by english fielders as Lara enters the field!

Out goes Gayle - in comes Brian Charles Lara for his final international innings. England give him a guard of honour, clapping him all the way through, and Smith shakes Lara's hand. The atmosphere is quite electric out there now; a standing ovation, conches blowing, drums banging.

He's out. RUN OUT!!!!:(
Broad to Samuels, OUT, what a desperate way to bring down the curtain on Lara's career. Samuels pushed the ball to mid-on, called for the run, Lara answered and almost immediately Samuels changed his mind, leaving Lara stranded.
A huge and warm reception from crowd and players as Lara headed off but he was clearly unhappy - as well he might be - and he wasted no time in heading off. Samuels sold him down the river and Lara never had a chance to get back once Pietersen had picked up cleanly ... all he had to do was amble in and remove the bails.

What a sad way to end the greatest batsman of world cricket.

Run out for a run that was never there.

Samuels made the stupid call and then left Lara stranded.

Banglatiger84
April 21, 2007, 11:10 AM
Samuels is one idiot, and Pietersen is another. I know it sounds stupid, but in a match that means little to both teams, he shouldnt have run out Lara in the spirit of the game.

Samuels is a dumbass, why didn't he run towards the danger end?

At least he will be known for the rest of this career for this I think.

9.2 Taylor to Vaughan, FOUR, more aggression from Vaughan, hammered over midwicket off the front foot and another four
9.1 Taylor to Vaughan, FOUR, slower ball, spotted by Vaughan who deposits it two thirds of the way to the cow-corner boundary

Collymore to Bopara, OUT, that's a fine shot, cracking it square off the back foot, but it's brilliantly saved by Bravo at backward point. Oh and Bopara's going for a run but Bravo throws down the stumps - and hits, leaving Bopara comfortably short. Electric fielding from West Indies' best

That was pure, utter class
16.3 Powell to Pietersen, FOUR, absurd shot for a new batsman at the crease. A half-volley on off stump which he on-drives quite majestically, disdainfully for four

OK we now know whos in the crease... the captain and a proven CONSISTENT match winner for England. Hes the man...get him WI and England can easily be demoralised chasing a score of 300..

49.5 Bravo to Stuart Broad, 2 runs, full delivery outside the off stump, Stuart Broad reaches for it and slices it to sweeper cover, up and over the infield, the field has come up to save the single so they get the second and the winning run easily and look at the irony of life, fittingly, Lara chases the ball down and throws it back, but it is all over for the match and for a great International career as well...

I've had a tremendous time playing for West Indies ... my dream was to see West Indies cricket stay on top and not doing that has been the most disappointing thing.

"Did I entertain?" Lara asks the crowd, and the cheers answer that!

Xavier

I lost the video streaming before the over by Collymore that conceded 17 runs turning the exit of the game, so I got very disappointed when I had the video back after that with England winning the match... I hoped that Lara could end with a win, but still he got the celebration he deserved from the crowd.

Maybe Vaughan played his last (and better?) one day match as England left wold cup with something to rejoice... while the future for West Indies cricket looks really dark after a very disappointing home-wc.

Great game of Cricket. Tremendous batting by Vaughan, Petersen, Nixon and the tail. However, it is truely a sad day for cricket as another legand bows out of the ODI game. To me Lara was the epitome, the arrogance, the flair and the rock on which West Indies batting was build around for the last decade or so. He entertained everyone. Batted to score runs, to win and to did it with his own unique style. Not very orthodox, wrote his book on how to bat so to speak and epitomized what determination, single minded concentration can help you achieve. I just hope he has at least another double or a triple century left in him for his test career.
