So, the 2nd semi final is coming up, and Australia faces South Africa at Gros Islet

Australia: from RT Ponting, NW Bracken, SR Clark, MJ Clarke, AC Gilchrist, BJ Haddin, ML Hayden, BJ Hodge, GB Hogg, MEK Hussey, MG Johnson, GD McGrath, A Symonds, SW Tait, SR Watson

South Africa: from GC Smith, JH Kallis, LL Bosman, MV Boucher, AB de Villiers, HH Gibbs, AJ Hall, JM Kemp, CK Langeveldt, A Nel, M Ntini, RJ Peterson, SM Pollock, AG Prince, R Telemachus

Live score: http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/247506.html

Read match previews: for Australia (http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/wc2007/content/current/story/292236.html) and South Africa (http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/content/current/story/292249.html).

So let us see what happens in this ultimate fight for a shot at the cup. Australia has had a sensational time in this World Cup, and have won every match they played. Many are interested in seeing an end to their winning streak of the World Cups.

If Australia qualifies, the same opponents will face in the finals like in 1996. It will be a fun match to watch. However, if South Africa wins this match, they will qualify for the first time (?) for any World Cup finals.

PS. My first match thread. Testing my luck here (lol...using Australia and SA as test mouses :D)...lets see if the team I support wins today or not :)

does not matter if it is slow, all is needed is to have wickets and Smith gifted his wicket for what? this was an important match and he selected to bat and then went back to pavilion just after 2+ overs?

Why they choose to bat not sure when they have good pacers!
Aussie will be a good chaser and SA has no spinners.

its already a dead contest, Gibbs and Kemp are trying their best not to lose further wicket.
but the runrate has gone astray and Australians have one foot in Barbados.

Kemp went for 6 out of frustration of so many dot balls, that is risky, why not just take single and give strike to gibbs.

Srilanka needs some fairytale performance to beat this Awesome Aussies. but miracles doesnt happen each and everyday :)
On who will be bowling faster and getting more wickets...Both have been bowling 90+ consistently and getting crucial wickets for their captains...malinga i think is more economical that tait though.

I reckon McGrath, Bracken, Vass, Murali will have a different say on getting highest wickets.

The battle would be Jayas vs the aussie attack, Ponting-Hayduce vs Murali if they can stick around that long.

I echo what Sandpiper's saying - watching Australia play is the most boring thing on the planet and nowadays I tend to tune out when they are involved (unless they are losing which is almost never).

Yeah yeah Aussie fans - before you flame me - I do admire the Baggy Green gang for the ruthless efficiency they have brought to the game and how they've taken advantege of shorter boundaries, flatter pitches and better bats to make cricket a power game suited for the hulks who consitutute their team. (Hayos, Simmo, Watson et al would be fine in any NFL team).
But, I maintain that their is no joy in their play, no flair or verve in their skill set that would soothe a neutral soul, and they squeeze out the joy from the opposition with a cold-hearted professionalism that Iraqi executioners would do well to learn from.

Unless Lanka pull off a minor upset, looks like the Aussie hegemony will continue to blight cricket for a while. Damn those Baggy Greenies for being so good.

You always need to be worried - or rather, you need to treat every team with respect, whether they're SA, SL, or Ireland. The day you take your opposition lightly is the day that you can slip up.

But Dubya and the boys look frighteningly focused - they will not take SL lightly, and will treat their opposition with plenty of respect. SL have plenty of big-game players - Jayasuriya, Vaas, Sangakkara and Murali are the types of players who thrive on on the big occasion, much like the Ozzies. They will bring their A-game to the final.

i do not know why people say watching Australia is boring, its not our fault that that few can challenge us. and tbh we dont understand why either.

all they do is go out and play their best, to add abit of humour to a contest they will bait someone like G Smith to see his ears go red as they do when hes miffed (halarious to see).

i find watching games like NZ and Wi boring there is very little excitement to the match, at least the Australian matches you get a display of perfect cricket. Look at someone like Hayden the way he hits all those 6's with so little effort, the look of terror in the batsmans eyes when McGrath steps up to bowl, hogg hasnt developed warnies ability to torment yet but hes getting there.

most games i cant stop laughing, though having said that i laugh when Australia loose too especially the look on punters face in the after match interview
