157 run partnership between these two ... far shorter than the 600+ between MJ and KS in that 700+ epic against SA.

Vandort got an opportunity and he is cashing it in. Tendulkar, in Bangladesh, did not go crazy thinking this is only Bangladesh bowling. He cashed in his 37th and 38th centuries, taking no risks at all. After all, at the end of his career, only the numbers will count and they will all be the same.

This is just beginning, that's why I urge supporters/fans not to get over excited. I have mentioned earlier our batsmen just do net practices and also our spinners may not be like Murali, but still com'n that much run and not even a day. BCB just getting money for what if they are not doing something to solve it, also our batsmen doing the same mistakes. Currently I don't think there is no league match going on due to weather but then if money permits we need indoor stadium to keep on playing year around longer versions games. Batting coach is also due.

Padosan
June 25, 2007, 07:52 AM
damn ! not the same story again :(

I was hoping BD will stay on for 3 sessions atleast.

I know its too much to ask for a win from BD. The BD batsmen should always remember that most of the test matches are won or drawn by big scores in the first innings, SL has nothing to lose now.

I don't care if Ash makes a quick fire 50 in the second innings, i would be more than happy to see sakib or habs or Ash or one of those bigger name players staying it out for 2-3 sessions and some 50-100 partnerships in second innings.

Test match is about winning the sessions, its not about showing your ego that you are a bigger batsman than the bowler is. what the heck, it is purely unforgivable that Ash pulled the ball when the trap was set there for him. very very disappointing.

i wont complain abt the bowling, there is only so much the bowlers can do.

Kudos to SL as they do their job, professionaly, as they do always.

disappointed with BD at the end of day 1 and hoping for the best, for the rest.

Cheers !

Our players should play more tests and all the U-13, U-15...............U-19, A,B teams should play tests so that when and if they play test in international level they will be used to it and they will know what to do and what not to do and other important stuff and may be they won't make the mistakes our current players made or will make smaller and less mistakes!!!

Ehsan
June 25, 2007, 07:55 AM
Wow with all that emphasis on batting and playing Test cricket for a while I do not think we have improved a bit in Test cricket. Same old story and same old mistake, I knew this was coming. Sigh...so much for the new era of BD cricket.

BD really showed that they ahve been working hard onb their batting techniques!! really disapointed by BD showing.... didnt even occupy crease for a whole day 30 odd overs. SL to rack up 450+ and declare tomorrow... innings defeat def on cards not even rain can help.

To be fair, I hope that doesn't happen. If we bat horribly, like 89 all out, we deserve to lose the match with an innings and 200+ runs.

Bang are playing 3 left arm spinners, and then there is Ashraful bowling leg spin. So everyone is spinning the ball the same way, they should have played someone that would give them a bit of variety.

Well, once again the same old story: all the hype, all the expectations culminating in a disastrous performance; how many times have we seen this happen? However,
I'm not all that disappointed, somehow. You don't become decent test batsman in the space of one series and hours of net practice can't be adequate enough preparation to face Murali, Malinga, Vaas. What's essential is application frm the batsman and as usual it's still not there. My "relaistic expectation" from the series ( anyone remembers that thread ? ) was some good individual performance and there's probably still time for that in the series. For all those expecting bigger ( & better ) things, wake up to the reality.

As some other posters have said, younger players lke Tamin Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed should be drafted in the team. No point in having high expectations from the current crew including Ashraful ( sure he's talented but if he can't perform consistently even in his prime (20-25 years), when is he going to perform???).
Going on a tangent here, I read somewhere that V. Kambli a had more talent than Tendulkar but he lacked application. Look now where the two are. Talent alone is not enough.

Still don't get Mash is playing with back pain and he is struggling, tommorrow we will have really hard time getting all the wickets or even two to three wickets, if they send us to bat again by end of tommorrow our players will be so tired that in their second innings they will repeat the same thing.

WHy do we have to draft only young players? when players like Tusher, Alok is playing good and scoring one century after another?

June 25, 2007, 12:59 PM
Not much to write about after the first day. We are hopelessly outclassed against the murderous Murali. What can you say about him ? Umpiring mishaps compounds that misery with unfortunate decisions ( SN and maybe Bashar ), couple that with brainless shot selection ( Ash ) and continued persistence with that incompetent other opener, will give you what you deserve.

This is a hopeless situation. We don't even have any backup middle order player in case we needed to sub. Mushfiq might have to brought in at some point in this series. But, thats it. Not taking Tushar and Aftab for the test matches was a cardinal mistake. Its too late...

But if our players can make use of the remaining 4 days to prepare for the next test, we can alteast dream to play for 5 days in the last one.....

The sad thing is, in lost causes like this do our old "experienced" batsmen start playing slow and comfy to make their individual performances look better. People start loving them again, then the cycle repeats itself.

We need a good coach as soon as possible. BCB is really making it delayed. McInnes and some other good coaches are interested and BCB seem not to be interested. A coach needs a few months to settle down with his team.

The way BCB goes is too much frustating to me.

As someone mentioned, BD loses a wicket for every 10 runs ... in that way, the score would read 70/7. I hope not...

But really, think about it. If our players stay away from the bad shots, and just HOLD on to their wits, they can easily manage a 35+ run partnership for each wicket ... that would take us to 350+!

After the first day I don't see any difference between this tour and any previous tours. What I expected was a little bit resistance from the middle order after the top order failed miserably. But sadly that didn't happen, may be we are lacking in ability, may be we are not strong enough mentally.

The best part of the day was Shahadat, he showed some brilliance and again he was indisciplined sometimes. And as for the umpiring- well nothing new. Suresh Shastri is here to announce that another Ashoka de Silva is in the making. He raised his finger whenever the Lankans appealed in the morning session.

Hoping for a better day. We might fight back you never know!

The game is about to begin...
from CI

10.25 am It's another humid day in Colombo and the sun's out as well. The forecast for the next few days isn't as promising with showers expected. The pitch on day two is expected to be ideal for batting. It's a bit drier than on day one and it might take some turn but nothing remotely nightmarish for the batsmen.

We have serious selection issues and quantitative as well as qualitative flaws with regards to our FC cricket, we don't play enough FC or List-A matches and the quality is comparatively poor save some outstanding players here and there ... changes are well on their way but need to be accelerated. We're also only 8 years old when it comes to our cricket culture at this level.

That said, I'd be happy to see small improvements match from match.

You're wrong, Wrong, WRONG! Bashar is Mr. 50 in Tests, JO is a quality Test Match player, Rajin is a test specialist, Pilot is the worlds best wicketkeeper after Gilchrist. We're fine... its all the coach and captain's fault. Also the pitch is playing tricks, it wont rain, and the umpires a cheat.
